Title: Kieran 'the Hero' Murphy
Post by: giveherlong on June 27, 2007, 12:56:14 PM
Was listening to Micheal on RTE commenting on the Cork v Waterford game a couple of weeks ago.

Just wondering why he kept referring to Murphy as 'the hero'

'Kiero the Hero' was a nickname he was given underage as a result of so many match winning performances, though a lot of people in Cork now use it in an ironic sense. I suspect Marty was doing it for two reasons, a) being to differentiate him from the other Kieran Murphy on the Cork team, and b) simply because Marty feels the need to mention the nickname of ANY player that has one, though he uses it as well as the player's full name rather than instead of it, which is surely the point of a nickname, e.g. he says David 'Doc' O'Connor, James 'Cha' Fitzpatrick, Ger 'Redser' O'Grady etc.

Morrissey and his infatuation with nicknames is infuriating. He nearly wets himself when Laois are playing...."Brrruuuno, passes it on to Beanooo"

Sorry, that's actually my mistake, Marty does it a lot too though!
