Title: Security camera installers
Post by: Jim Bob on June 27, 2025, 10:23:33 AM
Wish to install indoor security cameras  to monitor an elderly parent. ( NI)
Needs to be linked to a smartphone for monitoring obviously
Anyone know any companies who do this sort of thing ?

It may not be what you are looking for but we have had great success with Blink cameras for this. Found them far more cost effective than professional installers. Slight worry in respect of where the storage is if you get a subscription but it can be easily set up for local storage only. They have a range of wireless cameras too if you don't want to start and drilling for either power or PoE

Friend installed the ring doorbell type ones for his mother in law... set them up so to suit and away they went on in the hall one living room which covered their kitchen and one in the bed room...

He thought they were a grand job and easy to set up

Tapo Cameras (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tapo-Security-Rotational-Definition-C210/dp/B08ZNTM1X1/ref=sr_1_5?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.7HSPO1De9edJSKAMfLF9ksJ_2RBf1cuIWrXglEeMRlIQs6jey51E9KXsdVcnOPvA4eUr6L0RU7Kj7VEHO2lAVJWuEE6aE54u2CjTmEOFccWWhrSQcGzvQkuLq5tKYjKWG_cZ_drZdm8uMCzN1pvGs2XjFOciv38U4S-nM6m5U4DGln1QbuXlOOwiVaGJ5QIcYZGJT0wCjv6TUuoxTHitGWq-zMO9eOw_GpUOKGn6iUQ.3i3K8aENt3EzBtUILlJHcNpQt9wIAfleKxy1nK53hNY&dib_tag=se&keywords=tapo%2Bcamera&qid=1751033137&sr=8-5&th=1)

Have them for exactly the same reason. I think these are the best - £20 for a camera you can rotate 180 degrees and are easy to setup. You have a menu on the app where you can access all cameras or even have them setup like a multiscreen. If you want to record it is inexpensive, get yourself a SD card. An additional benefit is the two way communication. Siblings can access the cameras at the same time if you have any.

This sounds interesting. Can you view on your smartphone wherever you are in the world and can more than 1 phone connect to it ? Thinking of whole family being able to view

You can access it anywhere in the world. I have it on multiple devices  and other family members are logged on at the same time some live near and some don't. It also has movement detection so whenever there is movement the app will send you a notification - the sensitivity can be changed and it can differentiate between motion detection and person detection. I do not need this function yet but it is useful if your parents have difficulty moving etc. You can also set the camera up to track their movement across a room so the camera follows them - there are a lot of things you can do on it. You can also get a panic button for the same app.

What's Blink like ? Have a ring doorbell for about 5 years now and it's constantly going offline

Why does it go offline? I'd say once a month with mine, I suppose it take a couple of minutes to hook it back up again but still..

+1 for Tapo. These are relatively cheap and the app is easy as. You can create multiple user accounts or just all login on the same one from any phone/tablet.

No idea, never used to, router hasn't changed & is close to the ring doorbell. Maybe they just run out of juice after a few years.

And it's been offline when I didnt know it was

Check the doorbell/app is up to date...do you have a VPN on router?

Been using blink about 6 months and have very few complaints. Occasionally a camera will take a while to access but I suspect that's more to do with my internet connection.
