St Comans was kind of to the rear of the Post Office, me father told me.
It floods for 4 or 5 months of the year.
Hyde opened in 1971 or 72.
A local Committee bought Raffertys field and took it from there.
I'm sure I heard somewhere that a Kerry/Cavan AI semi was played in that field in the 20s.

Located in Roscommon town near the Castle. It hosted many Connacht finals. It also hosted the All Ireland senior semi final between Mayo and Kerry in 1936.

There's a famous photo of the two teams, Mayo and Roscommon, posing together for the replay in St Coman's in 1946. The match had to be replayed after Mayo objected to first match because Jimmy Murray took the flag off the linesman and waved for a goal he scored himself! Ros still won the replay.

St. Conan's park was a great pitch to play in, a nice surface and not heavy, while the land behind flooded the pitch rarely flooded and was used all year round by both clubs and county. One match I can remember being switched because of flooding was away back in late autumn 1957 when all Ireland champions Louth were visiting for a national football league game, it was played in Kiltoom.
The last championship game played in Colman's was a Connacht semi final between ourselves and that great Galway 3 in a row team in June of 1968, Galway won with a late flurry of scores in a hard fought game.
The first championship game in the "Hyde" was a Connacht semi final v Sligo in June 1971 which Sligo won by a couple of points in a game I have long forgotten.
Our home Connacht SFC record in the Hyde started badly and hasn't improved a lot.
Still lazy clichéd journalists will talk about "Fortress Hyde"
