New Pat Shortt film wins at Cannes

'Garage', the new film starring Pat Shortt, has won an award at the Cannes Film Festival.

The film, directed by Lenny Abrahamson and written by Mark O'Halloran, was awarded the CICAE Art and Essai Cinema Prize.

CICAE is the International Confederation of Art House Cinemas and the jury is made up of representatives of its members.

Abrahamson and O'Halloran were also the team behind the award-winning 'Adam & Paul'.

Co-financed by RTÉ, 'Garage' tells the story of Josie (Shortt), the misfit caretaker of a crumbling petrol station in rural Ireland who finds his life changed forever over the course of a summer.

Commenting on 'Garage's win, director Lenny Abrahamson said: "I am totally delighted with this award coming after such a fantastic reception for the film at Cannes. It's the best possible launch for its journey around the world."

Regardless of the potential merits of the film, why the hell do people find Pat Shortt funny? All he does is put on an idiotic voice and make stupid faces and hey presto, half of Ireland seems to be rolling on the floor laughing. It's the same with that twat Tommy Tiernan.
