Title: GAA Need to Get Rid of Replays
Post by: Eire90 on December 27, 2019, 11:29:07 PM
No need for them in this day and age. If level extra time then either have penalty shootout or first team to two points maybe.

You've come to a messageboard about the wrong sport.

In fairness, Replays are there to reward non league and lower Division clubs for eking out a draw against better supported higher up the divisions clubs with another big match replay. A sharing of the wealth sort of thing!

Replays to Wolves and especially Man Utd are a nuisance.

And Replays vanish in the later rounds.

Extra time makes sense, especially in the early rounds of the championship where scheduling is tight.
But what is the major driver for eliminating replays altogether?
When an All Ireland goes to a replay the participants usually seem happy enough to me.

The main disgruntled ones seem to be a few bitter anti-GAA heads who dislike that there is extra funding to invest and the salty Indo articles about 'GAA bosses', 'windfalls' and 'bonanzas'.

I think penalty competitions to decide who wins or advances in championship matches should be avoided if at all possible. It's no way to win or lose a championship match.
