I am looking for advice on implementing a payments solution for the Club.
Does anyone have contactless, GooglePay or AndroidPay payment active in their club for Gate Receipts, Club Gear, Club Shop or Club Lotto?
More and more people are carrying no cash to games as paying with cards / phones are increasingly common and the club want to try and tap into this.
Essentially we are looking to see if anyone else operate a mobile card reader (sumup.ie or equivalent) to capture card / cashless payments.
What is the experience with it (did it bring in more payments);
What are the benefits and drawbacks;
What are the costs (set-up and on-going fees) &
Would you do it again?
A steer in relation as to what technology to use would be great as well.
I would imagine there are quite a few treasurers on here that may be interested in this.
Thanks.

Works pretty well.
We've installed a card machine in our clubhouse, mainly for the bar, but we accept any form of payments within reason through it. Essentially as long as you're happy that the VAT man will also be aware of your payments in, it's a much handier system than cash.
Base cost is £15pm, and there's a small transaction fee every time. Costs us maybe £25-40pm on average. But when you factor this against cash deposit fees and cash handling fees that a bank charges you anyway, it's effectively a minimal to zero cost.
The cash back system is great for actually attracting people over to the club. One simple transaction and they usually spend a few more quid before moving on.
The system requires a secure WiFi connection though. So if what you're thinking of is walking around a field selling lotto, it wouldn't work unless you've got bloody good WiFi transmitters.

Would it not work of a portable hotspot on a phone? or is it restricted to an IP?

I'm sure there's technology would permit it. But I expect it would be much more expensive - in terms of insurance premium - to run these systems without a fixed IP address. It's one of the primary security restrictions in the system we use
Check out square https://squareup.com/gb/en/hardware/reader and Izettle both 29+vat for the reader and then 1.75% transaction fee
You have me thinking the same for our club.
