Title: Ceili House Folk Club ~ For any Trad heads out there.....25/5/07
Post by: The Gs Man on May 14, 2007, 07:24:39 PM
Friday 25th May - Céilí House Bar, Lurgan, Co Armagh

The second instalment of the newly relaunched Ceili House Folk Club sees an appearance by Traditional Irish music living legends Cathal Hayden (Fiddle, banjo) and Arty McGlynn (guitar). There will be a special guest appearance from traditional singer and multi-instrumentalist PJ McDonald.

Cathal Hayden from Pomeroy, Co Tyrone, needs no introduction to anyone even remotely familiar with traditional Irish music. A multiple All-Ireland Championship winner, he achieved worldwide recognition as one of the founder members of "Four Men and a Dog". He is one of Ireland's top fiddlers and his solo banjo performances are quite simply, show stopping. His last solo appearance at the Céilí House accompanied by Tyrone guitarist Eamon McElholm was a sell-out concert.

Arty Mc Glynn is from Omagh, Co Tyrone and is without doubt the finest and most sought after guitar player in Ireland with a unique understanding of music he performs. He has played and recorded with some of Ireland¹s most famous individual artists and bands, including Christy Moore, Paul Brady, Donal Lunny, Liam O'Flynn, Planxty, Patrick St, De Dannan, the Chieftains, and the Van Morrison Band, to name a few. He has been, and remains, in high demand as a performer, recording artist, and producer. He is the 'guitar player's guitar player' on the Irish music scene.

PJ McDonald is one of Irelands finest whistle players and has won admirers across Ireland and further afield for his dexterity and understanding of the instrument. Constantly on demand PJ honed his craft in his early years learning from his late father, Hugh Pat McDonald, and from the many talented musicians who reside around his native village of Donaghmore in County Tyrone. These days PJ is just as likely to be admired for his vocal skills and guitar work, making him a true multi-instrumentalist in every sense.

As a soloist he has worked with many top names in the Irish Music world including Cathal Hayden, Arty McGlynn, Mairtin O'Connor and Ringo McDonagh to name but a few. As a group member he continues to play regularly at festivals and in television and radio with the award-winning White Hare Band. PJ's debut album is due for release in Spring/Summer 2007.

Cathal Hayden, Arty Mc Glynn and PJ Mc Donald are all recognised as virtuosos of their instruments and this is a rare oppurtunity to see the three Northern musicians perform together.

Admission to the gig will be £7. Tickets are available from the Ceili House Bar or by phoning 02838 322076 or 02838 327624

Doors open at 8.30.

Looks to be a good night. Seen Arty a few times and he's excellent live. His brother used to be my art teacher, who's also an excellent musican.

However Gs, since I don't have a car, it's a bit short notice for me :(

This might be a bit off the trad type music but only just found this video on youtube of the Red Hot Chilli Pipers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwrvHnYpwkk

Have you ever seen them, I seen them at the Gig 'n The Bann  (http://www.gignthebann.com) in Portglenone last year and have to say they were pretty good. They must be doing alright when winning that TV show.

Aye Donagh, good line-up.  Maybe see you there.

Balladmaker, we're limiting it to 100.  Hopefully keep noise levels etc down during the performance (my band have played to 200 in there but it was a tight squeeze).  Why do you ask?

Is that Ceili House in Lurgan not a bit rough? Lurgan is nearly as bad as Armagh (well maybe not that bad yet)
