There was once a player convicted of bringing the GAA into disrepute for diving.
Diving might be reprehensible, but I think you'll agree it's not quite in the same ballpark as publicly calling for the public humiliation of a plaintiff in a rape trial and inciting others to break the law by strongly implying that she should be named.
Reading his other tweets he seems like a right idiot and a mouth - though his twitter is nothing to do with the GAA

And the governing body of that amateur sport has rules that the players have to abide by.
Whether he should be banned or not, he's fairly proven himself to be a complete and utter tit.

It's not his first time at this particular circus, he should do himself a favour and come off it more than anything.

Diving in a GAA match presumably!? Not diving at 5-a-side soccer or into a swimming pool or any other walk of life that is unconnected to the GAA.

Hard to bate a bit of outrage. Some amount of it goin about today. Ban him for life i say. Then maybe a public flogging
He can say what he wants, nothing to do with the GAA.
His county just issued an apology and so did he. He's a county player, it's got feck all to do with him
being paid or not. Should be representing his county with some respect in the public eye, not being a twat.

This is not how the world has ever worked
To be fair, one of the things we tell all our players is that they are representing their county, their clubs, their families and themselves. When they pull on a county jersey, fair or not, there is a level of responsibility in how you conduct yourself. Obviously the GAA can't be held responsible for his personal opinions, but he needs to be cognisant that he represents that county, and by extension when he publicly says something like that, he is bringing unwelcome attention to Laois GAA.
Similar to when Darren Gleeson defrauded that old man, it had nothing to do with the GAA per se, but it certainly brought discredit to the county. A lot of people in Tipp wanted him dropped immediately.
The GPA should deal with it as they put themselves up as the bastions for mental health awareness etc... I guess that shud extend to treatment of women in rape cases

Luke Rossiter's tweet:
Delighted for Paddy Jackson. That tr**p of a thing should be locked up now and for the girls that absolutely butchered him f**k YOUS TOO SLUTS #justiceforpaddy
Drogheda Utd went with a more sedate:
Drogheda United Football Club is horrified by comments attributed to one of its players on social media this afternoon. The club finds comments such as these disgusting and have no place in football or society. The matter will be investigated and dealt with internally by the club while the rest of the squad, at all age levels, will be reminded of their responsibilities. Opinions expressed on personal social media accounts are in no way representative of the club.

Whether they are aware of it or not county players are role models and should behave accordingly. Same goes for provincial rugby players

"The club finds comments such as these disgusting and have no place in football or society" is the sort of comment that made sense before social media lifted the rock of society to see what was crawling underneath .
In the good old days there say 5 national papers and everything was mediated. Social media is a free for all.

Probably not. Laois players posting a silly comment on Twitter is hardly a world event. He is entitled to his view however vile others find it.
Same player threatened to put woolly in hospital last year because he said too many players from his club were on an O'Byrne cup panel , not one for thinking before tweeting our Gary
Isn't he the same fella who tweeted at Parkinson that he was going to burst him over something?
I'd say the Laois whatsapp group is quiet tonight anyway.
Muppets like Walsh and Rossiter aren't alone in how they think. They're just the stupid ones that went public on it.

Anybody can wear a jersey. The difference between the work example is that he isn't employed by the GAA, isn't under contract and tweeted in his own personal time.
I never heard of either of them before yesterday. If yer man hadn't tweeted that goddamn awful tweet I wouldn't have known who he was. Magpie seanie is correct however, the two of these were just stupid enough to post their feelings over the internet.
The old adage of 'measure twice, cut once' could be changed to 'think twice, post once' in today's world.

That old chestnut.
He's perfectly entitled to say what he wants. "Freedom of speech" does not mean he's not allowed be condemned or automatically cannot be considered to have broken any rules around codes of conduct.
Freedom of speech would also allow him to say "I hate niggers and faggots and especially ngger faggots" but you'd not have many people telling you it wasn't an issue for the GAA in that circumstance.
