Great to see our young athletes getting public support. With the crowds he's played in front of he's paid for that trip a number of times over.

Shouldn't happen and I'm surprised the Joe Duffy brigade haven't got wind of it.

Personally thought it was ridiculous when I heard it. Also - NUIG should never have brought the lad on. It was crazy stuff.

Makes a nice change from Meath fans being escorted from games.  ;)

You have to pay the Gardai for one of those.

That stunt was clearly politically motivated.

They were complaining about it yesterday from what I was told last night.

I'm way more worried about player safety than him getting a ride in the bacon mobile.

There should be regulations against any player playing a second game in a day unless it is an underage blitz. Certainly no second games for adults.

Your man complaining is gas. He worked out the distance on Google maps and the average speed of the car and whether or not the Guards were qualified to drive with the sirens on lol.

Talk about having too much time on your hands.

The Guards work as a taxi service in every station in the country.

I have no problem with him getting lift but I can see where people have had to wait for hours for a Garda response to a burglary or a no show on a domestic might be a little less understanding .
Cant understand why they didn't use a helicopter. I know the guard have used them for Santa Calls in the past

I was involved in the Tipperary set up in 2001 and it was £600 in old money to get the Garda escort from the team hotel to Croke Park on All Ireland day.
It's a nice little earner for the force.

This would've been ad-hoc though at a local level.

Same as Guards or friends of Guards getting collected after nights out and dropped home.

Initially thought it was no big deal but as some have said if I had been the victim of a slow/non response by Guards then i would have reason to be pissed

where my sister lives in washington state the local community watch people here off duty cops to operate speed checks in full uniform . they can issue tickets too. something about just does not sit right , like thae law is only enforced for those that can afford it.
I know lots of guard have done bouncer duties but that would not be in uniform
