Title: McGrath Cup 2017
Post by: Horse Box on November 08, 2016, 07:20:37 PM
Anyone know when the draw is ? Looking forward to seeing what the Tipp Panel will be like , should be a lot stronger . Kearns has been to plenty of Tipp Championship games and says some new Players to be added . Lack of quality Players on the bench during the summer ! Reckon O`Brien will be back also !

Last years draw was at the end of november anyway.

Panel looks alot stronger than last year, john meagher and liam mcgrath two big additions, plus the boys who went to america give us alot more depth. Reckon acheson will be back for the championship, o brien im not so sure, he was ment to be very very close to making the 26 against kilkenny, if he does come back it wont be until april or so, he'll stick with the hurlers for most of the league and see what opertunities he gets. Midfield is the only area we are lacking at the minute, can see quinlivan going in there for alot of the league

Rumour has it that Acheson will be back :D . Liam Casey in for Midfield also , big strong lad . Liam McGrath got a chance under Creedon around Spring 2013 but I don`t think his heart was in it at the time as he thought he would make the hurling Panel . I reckon he knows now Football is the way forward for him . Thought John Meagher was great in the County Final . Good to see Loughmore lads on the County panel at last . Exciting times ahead !

Who was that massive lad playing midfield for Clonmel in the county final? We were doing a bit of a coaching course with TT on video analysis last night in Dr. Morris, and we were looking at throw ins. Your man was fecking huge!!

David lyons from dublin. Really progressed as the games went on although loughmore played him very well. Dont think hes up to intercounty level though, hes not mobile enough.

Conor kenny is one ive not seen before, heard he played under 21 football for kildare, hes a real unkown coming into the panel.

Ive not heard anything about buggy o meara, his intercounty hurling seems to be over, was a good under 21, worth a look at if he wanted to.

Jaysus lads, 5 posts solely on tipp football, viva la revolution!!!

Conor Kenny from Borrisoleigh , another lad from North Tipp that doesn`t play Club Football ! If he`s good enough though . Would like to see Buggy if he`s interested ( no Club Football either ) . Lyons got trials for Dublin a couple of years ago , Big unit , right coaching and conditioning could be a good lad to have on the panel !

Tippabu , have you a link to the Tipp panel for 2017 ?

Conor Kenny was dropped from the hurling last year wasn't he? Missed a sitter v Kilkenny in the league. Big lad alright.

This was from the examiner i think last week. John meagher is in too, imagine the likes of ger mulhair will be back after injury, few more too after the 21s the likes of jack kennedy and stephen quirke

Meanwhile, Kearns has drafted his provisional winter training panel - and there are some interesting additions as the Kerry native looks ahead to 2017.
Former senior hurling panellist Conor Kenny has been invited in for training. The Borrisoleigh man played U-21 football with Kildare.
Kenny (24) won Munster and All-Ireland intermediate hurling medals with Tipperary in 2013 and was a member of the senior squad earlier this year, before being released by manager Michael Ryan.
Liam McGrath, Tipp's 2011 All-Ireland minor winning captain, has also been called up after featuring for the senior hurlers in the early stages of 2016.

Liam Treacy, McGrath's club-mate from county senior football champions Loughmore-Castleiney, has also been included in a list of almost 40 players.
Former captain Paddy Codd is back after taking a year out and four players who were in America for the summer - Liam Casey, Jason Lonergan, Kevin Fahey and Ross Mulcahy - will feature too.

Diarmuid Foley's excellent club form for Moyle Rovers has earned him the chance to impress, while Upperchurch duo Colm Stapleton and Paul Shanahan are also involved, as is Emmet Moloney from Drom & Inch.

Kearns is hopeful that Dubai-based Acheson may return for next summer's championship campaign, but he's planning without the Moyle Rovers powerhouse for the Allianz League campaign.

Paddy Codd is a great addition And delighted Foley given a chance , hoped Liam Boland from Moyle Rovers would be there also .

Sure it'll keep the footballers down, that's the main thing.

Exactly , same as taking Steven O`Brien last year knowing he hasn`t a hope of being in the Championship game day Panel !

Tipp, Cork, Kerry....nice way to kick off the year and get ready for league action

Munster McGrath Cup Football
The McGrath Cup Football competition will be played off in a similar format to 2016 with two groups of three teams. The top team in each group will content the final. Defending McGrath Cup champions Cork have been paired with Kerry and Tipperary in Group A while in Group B, Limerick, Clare and Waterford will fight it out for a place in the final. The competition will begin on Sunday January 8th with fixtures on January 11th and 15th ahead of the 2017 McGrath Cup Final on Sunday January 22nd.

Good stuff , strong group ! Beat Cork in the Championship this year for the first time since `44 however we got the Cork monkey of our back in Senior Football 4 years ago in the McGrath when we beat them by 3 points in Pairc Ui Rinn . We can do the same with Kerry in Tralee on the 8th of January ! We have Cork at home , probably Tipp Town .

Most likely tipp town alright....clonmel has the antrim game so they'll probably not hold any games there beforehand

Looks like Steven O'Brien is giving the hurlers another lash. Fair play to him he obviously really wants to make it as a Tipp hurler, but it is a savage blow for the footballers. This is a huge year again, and if you had him anchoring the midfield, especially with Acheson in the middle east, it would be a great start.

He`ll be back for the Championship ! The Cork McGrath cup game is midweek so probably Dr Morris Park I reckon .

Was the best young hurler in Kildare a few years ago. His younger brother is a fine hurler too.

Yeah I knew he was up there alright, but he's been hurling with Tipp for a few years now. Dropped off the panel before championship last year, but if he had scored the goal he missed v Kilkenny he'd probably have made it!

Big strong lad, but a bit slow in the wrists for hurling, if he can play football he might well be an asset. Problem is, as Horse Box is alluding to, there's a pile of clubs in North Tipp that don't even play football.

He always concentrated more on hurling as a youngster. I don't recall him being too involved with the inter county football team as an underage player but he would have won minor and u21 titles at club level.

George Hannigan didn`t play Club football this year yet he will be on the Tipp starting 15 next year , same with O`Brien , O`Halloran played 2 games with a North JFC final to come against Nenagh Eire Óg . Philip Austin played 2 Intermediate Club games , he will be under pressure to start next year with Boland , Hennessy and others on board , reckon O`Halloran could be too !

Don't talk to me. It's the bane of my life. If the North Board took football seriously we'd be sending 30% more lads into contention in Thurles.

Intermediate and Junior Football Championships in the County are run terribly in all Divisions . The standard is brutal . Not good for the County side going forward !

Yes but as you rightly said, in the North the board makes no effort to try and even promote the football. The fact that the only football kicked seriously by the likes of Jack Delahunty, Stephen O'Brien, George Hannigan and Kevin O'Halloran is in Thurles is a disgrace.

Tipp could have a big win in Tralee with the teams named today. It's a Kerry u21 team missing a lot of players and Tipp look fairly strong.

Looks at scoreline - first yerra of 2017.

I'd imagine Kerry will be very short favs for the U21 championship.

The difference in fitness and sharpness between the 2 sides was evident , Tipp haven`t played any friendlies up to this . Only Foxy and Kiely were anyway near there best . A lot of new faces for Tipp today , lack of match sharpness didn`t help their cause !
