Philthy 'Animal' Taylor.
Reni. Stone Roses.
Levon Helm. The epitome of Loosey Goosey.
Don't know anything about jazz drumming but watched some of videos of Buddy Rich after seeing Whiplash and the speed was unbelievable.
In terms of rock drummers, Neil Peart.
Growing up I always thought Lars Ulrich from Metallica was the best. I now realise this is not the case.
Clyde Stubblefield - funkiest drummer ever

Dave Clark from The Dave Clark Five.
Dave Grohl??
The drumming in QOTSA No One Knows is ridiculously good!
In fairness John Bonham is probably the best!
Willie Drennan

Bonham and Keith Moon are highly regarded by fellow drummers, but Steven Adler of G'N'R was renowned for his off the cuff attitude to tempo where he'd change the beat to suit the mood of the band and crowd and some of the band felt that they lost something when he had to be replaced by Matt Sorum due to substance abuse.

Can you be a great drummer when the bands songs are generally a load of shit?!
Some might laugh at this (in their ignorance :-* ) but Phil Collins is a great drummer

Blink 182 are like screen's blanket defense, either love or hate it.

Absolutely he gets a mention in the thread. Sure Blink might be shit but check out his work with side project "The Transplants". Self titled album in particular.
Bonham, Grohl, Chad Smith, Ginger Baker and Peart are the top folks in my opinion but Bonham is the clear winner.
What are the criteria?
Petr Cech
John Bonham and Bill Ward were the masters in the late 60's/ 70's.
Igor cavelera and dave lombardo from the Thrash era. Gene Hoglan in the more extreme end of things.

Serious question because I dont know a lot of the boyos yiz are talking about..Where would Larry Mullen feature in this company.... if at all??
I wouldn't dismiss Ringo at all. Very steady, no fuss.
I always liked Charlie Watts.
But Bonzo was on a different planet.

Anyone who makes a career from drumming is decent but if we're talking about unique or super talented, larry mullen wouldn't be in the conversation.

Agree with this...
Neil Peart from Rush or Ginger Baker - the latter is/was as mad as a hatter but a genius

I saw Airto Moreira a few times in Ronnie Scotts and he is very good
