Title: Crazy Sports
Post by: AZOffaly on March 15, 2016, 02:43:27 PM
One of seafoid's many threads reminded me I wanted to start one myself about this. What are the maddest/strangest sports you've encountered or seen, live or on TV? I was flicking through Sky Sports at the weekend and I came across Kabaddi. It looks like a mental Indian form of 'tag'. It's a professional league, and has hundreds or thousands in the stands cheering, and looks bizarre. I still have no idea what's going on, but it looks like great craic.

tried watching that Kabaddi - still unsure what it's about? breaking the defensive chain while making it to the outside or half court lines secures an offensive point.  If the defense can push you back without breaking the chain or stop you on their side of the court and within the lines they score a point?

That Florentine Football Tournament is still the craziest one for me:

Use to watch it on Transworld Sport on a Saturday morning when I was cub. I'm pretty sure when a player enters the other half they have to be holding their breath.

I think they have to be chanting Kabaddi-Kabaddi-Kabaddi, basically making themselve breathless

Kabaddi is a great sport. You're basically trying to score by touching one of you opponents and getting any part of you back across the centre line. You get a point for each opponent you touch so for example if you touch one guy, are tackled by another but manage to reach your hand over the line you get 2 points. Not completely sure how the elimination of players works (if you fail to get back you're out for sure but hazy after that). I think when your full team is out then the opposition get 3 points and you're back to full strength.
