Title: D2 Laois V Derry
Post by: oakleaflad on March 11, 2016, 06:17:33 PM
Here is the Derry team for this weekend:

1. Thomas Mallon (An Lúb)
2. Oisín Duffy (Forghleann)
3. Chrissy McKaigue (Sleacht Néill)
4. Karl McKaigue (Sleacht Néill)
5. Gareth McKinless (Baile an Doire)
6. Brendan Rogers (Sleacht Néill)
7. Daniel Heavron (Machaire Fíolta)
8. Niall Holly (Eoghan Rua)
9. Emmett Bradley (Gleann)
10. Ciarán McFaul (Gleann)
11. Christopher Bradley (Sleacht Néill)
12. Benny Heron (Baile na Scrine)
13. Shane Heavron (Machaire Fíolta)
14. Emmett McGuckin (Machaire Fíolta)
15. Sean Leo Goldrick (Eoghan Rua)

16. Eoin McNicholl (Gleann an Iolair)
17. Ryan Ferris (Machaire Fíolta)
18. Ciarán Mullan (Eoghan Rua)
19. Neil Forester (Baile Stíl)
20. James Kielt (Cill Ria)
21. Ryan Bell (Baile an Doire)
22. Conor Murphy (Dún Geimhin)
23. Conor McAtamney (Suaitreach)
24. Cailean O'Boyle (Leamhaigh)
25. Daniel McKinless (Baile an Doire)
26. Mark Lynch (Beannchar)

Part of me doesn't expect much after the previous two results in the league and another part of me expects a big response as we were so poor. This one could go either way.

She'll be a long drive home if there's another listless display.  Emmet needs support as he won a mountain of ball early on in Healy Pk and had diddly in the way of backup.  Glad to see Sammy start,  a cultured a footballer  as there is about

50/50 is about right at this time

Very surprised to see McFaul named, heard he had left the panel due to family/work commitments!! Barton looks to have thrown in the towel on the league to focus on championship, hope he hasn't too early with Laois, Meath and Armagh all needing points!

I thought that in the Tyrone game we had no defensive structure in place at all,  they dragged our defenders all over the field eg Chriss McKeague seemed to follow Sean Cavanagh who rarely (and never does) stayed in the full forward line.  We need a strong/smart CHB who knows when to sit and when to go .... in the modern game this is very difficult. Also we need our 2 wing half forwards to act as additional half backs to copper fasten our defensive unit.  The other 6 players should form a mobile Offensive unit choreographed to work as a unit.   I know that's easier said than done but that is a game we have to play continuously (Tyrone have a system in place for many where all their squad players have bought into for many years) until we can improve our performance.  The challenge for DB is getting 'round' pegs for 'round' holes and it would benefit the tem if they could retain their Div 2 status and then by the 2017 Ulster Championship they would be much better prepared.  Now I think Conor McAtamney should be our CHB and I am disappointed with the defense that is chosen for the Laois game... that said there are not many good quality ones at this moment in time ... but we must get the league points on Sun which will not be easy in Portlaoise

What game were you watching? McKaigue played at midfield and marked mattie donnelly and did a great job of keeping him out of the game.

Fancy a wee upset here, Laois showed some glimpses of quality when we played them and really need the points to stay up. I'm going for Laois by two.

You sure that wasn't the Derry senior panel on the town UNLAOISED, I think they where out for a couple last night aswell?! This Derry 15 will need to be firing on all cylinders to get the result today against a hungry point seeking Laois outfit.

Laois 1-21, Derry 4-09. Derry not know how to defend these days, that's 3 massive scores given away in 3 games, tactics gone all out the window

Laois missed 5 excellent goal chances, Derry scored all of theirs. Derry could have knicked it in the end though. Lynch missed an easy chance.

A roller coaster of a game.  Fair old howler by Postie to gift Laois a goal right at the start.  High scoring game with mistakes a plenty.  Indeed we could have sneaked it with a very uncharacteristic miss by big Mark.  5 goals and not win,  I'd say that hasn't happened too often.  Oisin,  Gareth McK and Brendan best in a Derry shirt.  Big D Kingston is some footballer when he turns it on.

Does anyone know the craic with the Loais man stretchered off?

This oul defensive Ulster/ Midlands type of football is ruining the game ;D
Were there any defenders playing at all?

It looked at times that both teams were down to 12 players there was so much space. Laois were 3 to 4 points up a couple of times, Derry never led, why towards the end no Laois player dragged down a Derry player going towards goal is a mystery. No masters of the dark arts anyway!

Laois should have buried Derry they had 5/6 goal chances themselves but either balooned over the bar or took the wrong option.

Derry celebrated the draw like a win they know they got out of jail.

The referee was very harsh on Laois in the first half the Derry first goal was a free out which the whole stand could see two Derry lads in front of me were laughing when he let play go on after the Laois full back was dragged to the ground.

The penalty was given for a foot block even tho Colm Begley was maybe 8 yards away and it hit him on the back side.

I think the ref knew he was harsh on Laois and gave them soft frees in the second half but right at the death he blew for full time when Evan O Carrolls long free landed in Brendan Quigleys hand and he kicked it over the bar?
Laois were naive in defense and Derry got in very east for their last three goals Laois were just to honest making an effort instead of pulling down a man and taking a black card like Derry or other teams would do.

It was some game and well worth the admission fee pity more teams don't adapt this type of football.
