Title: Hatchet Men In Soccer
Post by: ONeill on December 11, 2015, 10:57:52 PM
Are there any players in world football who'd keep you looking over your shoulder if you were good enough to play at that level?

Remember Julian Dicks, Vinnie Jones, Souness, Steve McMahon, Keane. Hard to think of any now.

Kirk Hunter😂😂😂.Remember Schillacci retiring after Juventus qualified for UEFA Cup and a local wag saying it was because he feared meeting Kirk Hunter in the competition the following season.

Was a bloke playing for Arsenal called Peter Storey, right nasty piece of work.As for Souness ,he was hard up against pussycats, but I was at Anfield in 1979 when he took Ardiles out, only for Terry Yorath to avenge the assault soon afterwards, with Sounness out of the remaining part of the game.

Hatchet man implies a dirty ****. Keane was just hard, not dirty (bar Haaland tackle).

Montero used to play for Juve.

Actually all those south american defenders are tough as shit apart from Rojo who is a footballer trapped in a lesbian's body

in fairness lads they were all puffs (excuse the 70s derogatory reference to effeminate people) compared to Mick Lyons, Brian Mullins, Páidí Sé, Ciaran Duff, McGilligan, Blaney....not to mention the Grimleys.

Graham Roberts,Spurs.Once saw him literally have a running battle with two Mc Creery brothers, from a notorious East Belfast family, during a so called friendly against Glentoran.

Also big Dermot Keeley, of Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers, took no prisoners.Famous up North, during his Glentoran days, after an Irish Cup final which they'd won against Linfield, for ringing every Linfield supporters club he could get a number for,and asking in a broad Dublin accent, "Who won the Cup?"

Never saw him play but Billy Whitehurst had quite the reputation, (Martin Keown in a newspaper article earlier in the year said  playing against Fashanu was easy in comparison)

Dave McCreery from a notorious East Belfast family? What's the story there?

In primary school in the early 80s we were indoctrinated by a passionate Galway hurling man who told us, after one episode of Superstars, that the reason the GAA players could do more chin ups than the likes of Mark Lawrenson was because they were REAL MEN with well developed biceps.

In the 80s I don't think any GAA players could have done a chin up.

Not sure why you include Kieran Duff in that list, he was a cowardly thug who gave sly digs.

He played in the same Birmingham team as Tony Coton, Noel Blake, Robert Hopkins, Howard Gayle and Mick Harford. All hard as nails and very nasty with it. Kenny Samson wouldn't have got half of his England caps if Mark Dennis had even one screw tightened properly!!

Tommy Smith was plain mental.  Hard and dirty.  Stuart Pearce was a hard f**ker too.

Souness was a dirty, hard player. Lovely tackle here from his Rangers days.

He also broke a Romania players jaw in a European tie at Anfield but its off camera.

My favourite tackle was Steve McMahon and Vinny Jones in that FA Cup final. Jones goes in late and hard, McMahon goes down but both players straight back up and get on with it.
