Why are the football and hurling all stars not announced at the same time?
Because one of them is announced live at the function. It's the 'event' part of it.
It always just smacks of arrogance from the footballing end, both should be treated equally.

I thought they rotate it? They used to.
They do rotate it.

I'd be a bit more surprised by Holden TBH, I thought Barry of Tipp was a shoe in for that one.
I presume Maurice blotted his copy book winding up Liam Rushe.
Jonathan Glynn should have got one, for that interview alone.
They rotate it every year.
Originally this was done so due to cost, so for example this year there are 15 hurlers (+ partners) invited, while all the football nominees would be invited.
That was when they had a dinner/banquet but I'm not sure what the setup is now.
I think they have just kept with the format for the sake of it.
The length of the ceremony alone would probably be a factor, as it is televised. Nominees read out for every position, twice over, would make for a longer show.

Get each player to give a short interview, like the
Rose of Tralee (//http://), and then show highlights of his year.
They could then have a phone-in vote, premium rate of course to choose the winner in each position.
They'd make a fortune on the calls. Could you imagine how many calls the Rossie alone would make?
Then have a Eurovision style vote count.
waterford did well.
great to see Galway getting 4.
