Some craic!

"But controversy reigned as St Thomas' and Loughrea finished level in Kenny Park in Athenry. Referee Ger O'Connor blew the full-time whistle as James Regan's effort flew over the bar.

The point would have given Thomas' the victory, but instead it was overruled and the sides must meet again, while Craughwell edged Liam Mellows in the other last-eight tie."

The ref was afraid of how Johnny Maher would react if the point was given.

Could Johnny Maher have been the mystery tourist in Turkey battering any shopkeeper that came his way?

You'd think the ref would at least blow it up after the puck out.

Terrible refereeing to be honest.  Well into injury time and he had ample opportunities to blow it up prior to Regans "point".  Would expect St Thomas' to win the replay and its probably between them and Gort to win it out as the other 2 would be below their level I think.  Portumna are very much on the decline and doubt they will contend again in the near future - they had a great run in fairness to them though and gave their supporters some wonderful days out in Galway and beyond.

Galway Semi Finals 25/10

Sarsfields 0-21     Gort 0-17
Craughwell 1-20   St Thomas' 0-22

Not a final that too many would have predicted early in the year.  Craughwell back in a final for the first time in 80+ years!!
