Title: armagh v fermanagh
Post by: smelmoth on March 04, 2015, 10:14:25 PM
Expecting this game to be hugely negative. Scores to come on the break. Poor viewing but ideal pre-championship test.

I very much doubt it will be low scoring. Armagh will cut through the Fermanagh defence with ease.

Fermanagh play with pace and are very fit at the moment, Armagh are scoring well too so don't expect a low scoring game. I think Armagh can edge it but I think it'll be close...Armagh 2-14 Fermanagh 1-14

Fermanagh have been very impressive this year.
No goals conceded this year in the league and are very fit.

Think it will be tight

Who said it would be low scoring? We scored 2.16 on sunday and were mega defensive.

I've been very happy with the results so far, but I wouldn't quite say we have been very impressive.  We have definitely tightened up at the back, but we are yet to face a real test.  There is plenty of scope for improvement, and it will be needed this weekend.  The likes of Shields running in off the FF line will be something that our half backs have not faced yet.  Some of our build up play through hand was excellent against Tipp, but there was also a period in the first half where we struggled to get the ball out of our own half and got turned over in precarious places.  Armagh will be stronger again in the tackle so it will be interesting to see if we can continue to break with such pace.

We've scored 0-16, 0-13 and 2-9 against sides who didn't play particularly defensively, also whilst having a larger portion of possession.  Against a defensive Armagh what can we expect? I think we'll be closer to 10 scores, and we'll probably need 1 if not 2 goals to win.  Can we keep Armagh below 12 points?  I think it would be a fair achievement.  Whilst I think we are capable of winning, I think it is more probable for Armagh to win by a few.

Big Quigley with 3-6. The bigger the game, the bigger the man.

Can anyone post a link to radio coverage?

Thanks to anyone who replies.

While obviously a spirited Fermanagh performance, Armagh should not have allowed them back in, especially as one point 5 mins from the end came from a free turned into a throw ball.

Enjoyable enough game that. I know it's  Fermanagh in a Div 3 league game but I really think we've something on the go. The 2 Grange men will be some addition this Summer (i know Ethan's been about, but we didn't see much of him last year). Two separate 10/15 minute spells of MF obliteration caused the draw imo, the subs to replace the 2 midfielders weakened the side badly. I would be a big fan of Findon, but he'd a poor enough shift 2nite & he looks a potential red card in every game. The stats would be interesting to see as we seemed to be very wasteful, but i'm sure Fermanagh weren't far behind us.

Ethan Rafferty has the potential  to be something special.

Fermanagh are a good solid unit, with a very tasty midfield, more forwards required.

Bizarre game
Armagh should have won this at a canter
At stages looked as if they could destroy Fermanagh
thought the referee had a shocker tonight ( he was simply awful)
Fermanagh need a plan beyond quigley taking frees

Turning point was when Rafferty shoved Fermanagh man and ref threw ball up instead. 4 up at that stage and match was done and dusted.

Agree with the comments on the referee. He had very few big decisions but seemed to get an incredibly high proportion of the basics wrong. His performance fell below the level of competence.

Fermanagh are light in talent but well organised.

Armagh are not organised. Looked tactically bereft. Suicidal decision making and poor discipline are not things that can be explained away by a strong breeze. Murray was the pick of the men in orange

Couldn't agree more.  Two point swing as Fermanagh won the hop ball and scored a point from it.
We were staring down the barrel after 15 minutes of the first half.  1-5 to 0-1 down.  But we battled back well.  Managed to get on top in midfield and then Ruairi Corrigan scored one of the best goals I have ever seen at inter county level.  Beat about 4 Armagh players and then finished superbly.

Armagh played better in the second half against the breeze but let Fermanagh of the hook time and time again with some terrible shooting.  Fermanagh finished the stronger team and looked fitter in the final 10 minutes of the game.  Sean Quigley hit a superb sideline point and Ryan Jones scored a nice equaliser.

A very good point for Fermanagh and one that should set us up for promotion.
We are well organised, very fit and things seem to be on the up.

If Louth beat Sligo, they will very much be back in the equation for promotion as they have Armagh to play yet.

its a very negative approach from Armagh. One man full forward line was completely isolated when we were playing with the wind. hail mary balls offered no threat. We got no scores from the full forward line and got no scores through the full forward line.

Took the full forward off at half time and brought on McVerry. He played at half forward and we scored 3 points in the entire second half. McParland sitting on the bench and Clarke continuing to operate at half forward. You have to wonder what the brains in the sideline are doing

that free on the 14 might have been a turning point but it was also symptomatic of something that hampers armagh. A free to go 5 up triggers a few boys rushing in for a bit of afters. We pick up 2 yellow cards and the ball is thrown up. We lose the tussle and concede a free. fermangh take it quickly and we foul the 3rd man running. Ref plays advantage, Fermanagh break out and then he goes back to book a third Armagh player - really should have been a black card so could have been worse again.

How the ref took so long to book Findon I do not know.

I don't think promotion is in much doubt. A bit of work to do but all achievable. Would be more concerned about how we are shaping up for the serious stuff of championship football
