Must be a Longford man who makes out these fixtures. By this time next year Westmeath will have had four away games in 2014, 2013, 2010, 2009, and 2008. That's 5 seasons out of a possible 7 (since the current format has been in operation that we have 4 league games away from home. A tough task just got even tougher.  >:(

Sunday afternoon matches now going to be at 2pm, when generally they used be at 2.30pm?

Time was when Sunday matches would go to 3.30pm once the clocks went back.  Then one year 'Plain Daft' in the paper protested that the hour created difficulty for the thousands of supporters returning home after long away trips.  What he really meant was that the hour was causing him difficulty meeting his deadline.  As if he was going to come up with a more imaginative match report in the space of 60 minutes.

2013: Dublin 4 home games not including the one when Kildare moved the game to Croker or the Semi Final and Final
2014: Dublin 4 home games.

It's a wonder they don't get all 7 in Croker  ::)

Is that not way it supposed to be?
One year 4 home next year 4 away.
So take Dublin.
2010 4 away
2011 4 home
2012 4 away
2013 4 home (5 at home inc. Kildare)
2014 4 away home

Don't think so, the last few years Cavan have had more away games then home, and same again this year.

Isn't that the usual system - 4 home then 4 away in consecutive years? That why I was highlighting it.

No its runs on a two year system, and this is the start of a cycle, so last year is completely irrelevant (2013 was paired with 2012).
So everyone who has 4 home games in 2014 will have 3 home games in 2015. And if you play a team at home in 2014, you will play that team away in 2015.

So the Dubs had 4 away games in 2012 and 3 in 2013 (or would have had but for Kildare's change of venue)
And the Dubs will have 3 away in 2014 and 4 away in 2015.

Relegation and promotion can change things however, as you effectively take over another team's fixtures.

Presume it was because of the relegation issue Hound already mentioned.

Armagh were away to Laois in Roinn 1 in 2012.
Both teams were relegated.
Armagh took Tyrone's place in Roinn 2 in 2013 and Laois took Kildare's place.
Tyrone had been at home to Kildare in 2012 so Armagh ended up being away again to Laois in 2013.

On a slightly different theme Down have:

1 Friday
3 Saturdays
3 Sundays

Cork have:

1 Saturday
6 Sundays

Is this of any relevance to me or you or anyone. I just don't know  :-[

Now that is interesting.
Doing straight swapsies with the other teams that remained in Roinn 2.
Home to Louth in 2013 - Away to Louth in 2014
Away to Laois in 2013 - Home to Laois in 2014
Home to Galway in 2013 - Away to Galway in 2014.

Of the teams that left Roinn 2.
Promoted:
Derry had 4 Home games in 2013.
Westmeath had 3 Home games in 2013.
Derry were at Home to Westmeath.
Relegated:
Wexford had 4 Homes games in 2013.
Longford had 3 Home games in 2013.
Wexford were at Home to Longford.
The answer must lie in here somewhere.

Or else that's just the way things were going.

Interesting that Mayo don't have to go to either Cork or Kerry next year. Usually one away trip down south is fixed for Mayo.

I always thought there should be a round of Neutral venue games. 3 home and 3 away and one neutral. Say Mayo Westmeath and Galway Laois in a double header in the Hyde.

If I recall, was that not the way last year as well? I've a vague recollection of working out for the purposes of a preview piece that if you lived in Clones, you could go to every league game of the season on €20 worth of diesel, or something similar.

Louth (A) Down (H) Meath (A) Laois (H) Monaghan (H) Galway (A) Donegal (H) should get enough points from those fixtures to stay up however Armagh are poor travelers and Down,Donegal could win in Athletic grounds.

But what happened in 2013 is absolutely irrelevant when looking at 2014.
Is it? you might want to check again, we have 4 away matches for the 2nd yr and it includes a lovely trip to Wexford. With C Park taking over our finances they give us a massive cost saving opportunity there with 4 away days inc wexford, fair play.

In specific contradiction to your point we played Roscommon away last yr and have to do so again this yr.
Sligonian, did you actually read my post?
ahhh sorry just got it :-[, Hound i am going to hold you to it for next yr then, your saying we will have 4 home games in 2015.
I absolutely 100% guarantee you'll get 4 home games in 2015. Just don't get promoted or relegated!

It's a disgrace that there are NFL games on the 16'th of March with the club finals on Paddy's Day.

Was the same last year, yet GAA can create a gap between league fixtures to allow time for the Railway cup.

The Railway cup has a complete panel drawn from a number of counties, the club championship involves a handful of intercounty players and they won"t have been involved with their county team in the League.

The GAA show little respect for club and intercounty players and fans with scheduling like this. The Railway Cup has seen it's day, the club and underage All-Ireland Championship stole it's crowds and the rugby fufills our provincal rivalry needs, let the GAA concentrate on county and parish/club rivalry needs where it is the market leader.

What exactly is the issue? The 17th March is still free for club games.

Dr Crokes might solve that problem for ye.
THere were NFL games last year on Sat 16th but then you probably weren't aware of the Club finals then.

Oh gawd the Rossies are really full of the swagger only to crash and burn come the 8 th of June where they will go into hiding again .
They never fail to amuse me though, quality entertainment over the last ten years, comedy value is golden.

Getting ahead of yourself there, Larryin. Only Ros-Mayo games on the schedule are in January and March.

Well we will keep our end up sy by beating the yanks but I suppose the Leitrim boyos might spoil my planned " 13 years and counting" banner for the Hyde.

Club finalists are likely to have a few players also key to the fortunes of the county team which may in mid March be making a go at reaching league semi or in a fight to save their divisional status.

Did we play ye away in 2011 and 2012??
We were in div 2 in 2011 so no for that, yes in 2012 though.

They system is fairly hodge-podge. We went to Fermanagh and Cavan last year and played Longford in Pearse the last two times we met (2011 in D4, 2012 in D3) but all those are away games again for us this year.

Railway cup takes the best players from each county in the past players returned injured to us. It shouldn't be played during NFL fixtures.

For example Last year Roscommon fans had to travel to Belfast for a league game on Sunday & the club AI final was on the following day. The club AI final should be on a stand alone weekend & that would cut some of the expense for us supporters.

Surely it'd cost the same regardless?

Don't mind about NFL games the weekend of the club finals as long as they don't clash directly with the finals. You're right on the Railway Cup - it's just a cherry on top of a ridiculous and poisonous schedule from January to April.

All of Dublin's games are a cert anyway.
A few Nordie Saturday night ones.
No games from D3 or 4.
