The FIFA Confederations Cup is an association football tournament for national teams, currently held every four years by FIFA. It is contested by the holders of each of the six FIFA confederation championships (UEFA, CONMEBOL, CONCACAF, CAF, AFC, OFC), along with the FIFA World Cup holder and the host nation, to bring the number of teams up to eight.
Since 2005, the tournament has been held in the nation that will host the FIFA World Cup in the following year, acting as a rehearsal for the larger tournament. Brazil will host the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup from 15 to 30 June.
Groups
A - Brazil,Japan,Mexico,Italy
B - Spain,Uruguay,Nigeria,Tahiti
Should be a decent tournament with Spain,Brazil,Uruguay and Italy all expecting to do well i presume. Fred the main striker for Brazil is the definition of a poacher and will surely score a few goals for Brazil,i'd be interested in a special of Fred top goalscorer and spain win double,i remember some bookies doing it for the Euros, wonder will they do it for a tournament this size ??? ???
Haven't seen any of Uruguays prep games, are Suarez,Forlan and Cavani all starting? Some forward line

They won the Oceania Nations Cup last year. Did you not watch it? ;)
Uruguay are in a real dog fight to even qualify for the WC.
They won a huge game last night to get back in it. Hard to know how
serious they will treat this. Brazil and scolari are the ones who have
to shine. They were poor V England last week and look like they would struggle
to make any impact in their home WC on current form.
Spain are red hot favs for me. Eager to show despite their clubs demise that
they are still team to beat.
You can be sure Brazil will be a different Brazil when the world cup rolls around. They are still the best.

The best? Not even close. Home town should propel them to the semis or so if they get a good draw but Germany or Spain would make ribbons of Brazil.

Unless Spain inject some fresh blood or ideas into their set up they'll be found out. Their better players are on the wane.
Some goal from Neymar.
Pitch is shocking...what number is Kagawa?...can't pick him out...

They have a serious U-21 team, in the European Championship Final. Players like Isco, Tello, Martin Montaya, should all be in the frame come the World Cup.

Surely its time for a rethink in these inter continental championships as they're obviously not working.
What do we need to do to make Tahiti competitive?
I suggest we create an amalgamation of all the best players in Oceania and parachute in a top coach from Brazil to train them once a week and soon they'll be competitive.
Good game so far. Italy should be winning though.
My first cousin is in the crowd, somewhere.

That's as technically good a penalty shoot-out as I've ever seen - the two keepers never got a glimpse of a chance. Apparently Buffon and Casillas have a combined 279 international caps - wow!
Was it a defender that took the 1st Italian penalty nerves of steel . Pirlo is such a quality player what age is he ? He is like the wine that he is drinking in the photo getting better with age.
Yes. I agree all bar the one missed were top drawer pinnilties.
Here is a pic the first cousin lobbed up on Facebuke.

I don't think he can be identified here - looks like a Monaghan man for sure.
Don't think I have ever seen a better batch of penalties taken up to the miss. A bit p..ed off the tv didn't show them again at better angles.
Lad on BBC commentating had a nice comment like.... "Hope the England players are watching!"
This is a cracking little tournament.

34 years old. AC Milan let him go 2 years ago thinking his was over the hill, then goes and wins the Championship 2 years on the trot with Juventus! Some man.
I had said previously that if Ireland were to qualify for Brazil (still a very longshot) I still wouldn't travel. However, after watching the Confed Cup and the stadiums, the buzz would be too good to turn down. Never get the chance again probably. Looking at 2-3 grand minimum though I'd guess. :o
Giaccherini admitted it was his turn to take a penalty but he didn't feel up to it. He asked Bonnucci to take it instead. Could see that penalty coming as soon as Bonnucci stepped up. Giaccherini should have taken it. As a midfielder, isn't he more likely to score than a big centre-half. In fairness, though, the quality of penalty taking was amazing all the Italians scored great penalties. Giovinco and Pirlo's penalties were pure class.
Class penalties all right, the very first by De Rossi was some way to start them off. Chip down the middle, ala Pirlo in the Euro's against England.
Pirlo's pen in the Euro's, would be my favourite penalty , after Joe Harte acting the twat beforehand

First one was Candreva. De Rossi put his into the top corner. I was wondering at that stage would any of the Italians try the chip. Didn't think it would be the very first one. Don't think Casillas dived to either side for Pirlos penalty, maybe he was expecting Pirlo to do the same thing as last year.
Spain's pens were just as impressive. 2 centre halves
and a defensive midfielder among them.
Hope Spain destroy brazil and Neymar is embarrassed.
He badly needs to be taken down a peg or 3 before next season

Ah Candreva yeah, his was chipped down the middle.
Balotelli was a loss for the Italians.. made sure he was missed by his tweets on twitter..

It's been a great tournament so far hopefully tonights game lives up to it.
Thats how to do a f**king anthem . class!!
Great anthem, great start.
This could be a cracker. Some start.
Some clearance by Luiz. Great end to end stuff, no surprise.
Decent finish. Poor defending.
Brilliant finish from Neymar.
2-0 to Brazil.
Brazil playing really well here, Game likely should be about 3.1 at the minute, but spain def aint going to walk the world cuo next yr, with the south American teams looking to be fairly strong this time next yr!1
Brazil looking good 2-0 up Spain look wrecked after the extra time from the last day still a great goal line clearance from sideshow Bob.
Spain 17/1 to win in 90mins and 6/1 to lift the cup.
Might be worth ten yoyos on the latter.
It has been a great wee taster for Brasil '14. Outside of Spain and possibly Germany it is hard to see a decent challenge coming from Europe.

Maybe not.....
Hold on to that tenner I think!
3-0,.. Bit like the tanking Spain gave Italy last year in the Euros final..
New territory for Xavi and the lads.
New low for RTE commentary - 'where David Healy led, Brazil has followed'
Cheers Sergio. To the pit.

When you have wains like mine I'm the lucky one droving off in the morning :D
G Luiz looks world class the nite, how come hes doesnt play like this for the blues, or is it the fact he got a really good center half beside him?
Spain'll hammer them next year.
Spain will still be the team to beat next year. They just seem to be missing a focal point or direct attacking threat up front and without having that option there is the possibiblity of a high intensity pressing game from the opposition being successful as it was last night. I'm sure they have a few young players sitting about somewhere that could come into contention for next summer. The fact that Torres starts for Spain sort of shows how weak they are up front.
Good man Fred 8)
Spain have got at least 4 strikers better than Torres, how he starts is beyond me. Spain are still my favorites for the world cup next year. They were jaded last night, the Brazillians had an extra day to recover from their semi final and they didn't have to play extra time in their semi either. The Spanish movement wasn't half as good as it normally is. Their support play was non-existent. Normally, the man on the ball has 2 or 3 options, many times last night, he didn't have 1.
Not taking anything away from the Brazilians, they were outstanding and took their chances very well but I can't help feeling that with a fresher Spanish team, it would have been a much closer game.
