Title: Dragons Den Business Ideas
Post by: Don Johnson on February 19, 2013, 03:39:35 PM
Have to do a presentation for uni of a new business idea / product / service, whatever it is, in sort of a Dragons Den type thing as part of a business enterprise module.

Only problem is everything I think of I google and it's already been done or bombed.

Anyone got any ideas, serious or not that they think could work?

Doesn't have to be golden but just give me something to show.

So far I have mused:

- A standardised qualifications website where everyone is listed with all their qualifications etc, sort of like a credit report website but that employers etc could access. For a fee.

- An app to find your car in a car park. Which I found out has been done.

- Airport creches for over here. Then when I googled it found out Dublin airport are getting one shortly.

I'm stuck.

Cupboards in your kitchen that you can lift the racks out of the dishwasher and put them straight in......

A towel with the word face on one end and ass on the other so you dont dry with those parts.....

Velcro straps on baby seat seatbelts so they stay on the sides when you put the child in and you're not forever hoking underneath them to find the bloody belts.

Mp3 doorbell. Imagine 'Smoke on the water' being played when someone rings your doorbell. You'd never get sick of that!  ;D

As far as I'm aware, it hasn't been done.

If a man had a genuine brilliant idea do you think they would stick it up here for everyone to copy?

A bookies/casino in the airport. Ive seen this in Newcastle but nowhere else. Amount of people in airports with a few hours to kill.

Also think Paddypower missed a trick on valentines day. Was good football on and think he should have had a promotion where if u strike a 50 quid bet for example your better half gets a bunch of roses delivered. THat way we could have all lumped on Madrid to beat United or done an ante post for Cheltenham and it would have been justified

I'm toying with the idea of a website called "letters of complaint.com".

Around about 90% of old folk I know spend their time writing / emailing utililty companies / retailers/ builders etc with complaints.

I'm thinking if I get writers across these lands and then further afield to send their letter of complaint  to me (they are usually quite proud of them) I could  categorise them and upload them after redactment to a menu driven website. I think I would get plenty of hits from the olds looking for ideas on how to make and word the complaints.

People and companies would begin to get an idea of the problems other people were having and meanwhile companies looking to improve their image would pay me big bucks for advertising on my site

By the way this is mine and nobody else can be doing it now that I've said it.

Look at your own life. Is there anything you do, that could be made easier? Is there anything available to make it easier? Can you think of a way to make it easier? There you go.

I love the old Dragons Den and Shark Tank in the U.S
I think there is opportunity all the time to come up with an idea that could work.
The sport of Ice Hockey is 150 years old but goalies masks were only introduced 30 years ago. So for 120 years nobody thought of it or made it happen. 30 years ago one guy did and he's a rich man now.

An obituary website that does like deaths in the coming days. For example random family or friends. People will browse it in their millions in fear.

Hello,

As someone who has done a very similar course and now has half a dozen businesses I would suggest you do not need to think about something that is going to blow their tops.

What they are most likely looking for is some kind of plan on how you would bring your idea to life, as someone has already said most businesses are copies of others and although not everything has been done expecting each student to come up with something entirely fresh is never going to happen.

I would make this easy on yourself, identify a popular product, segment the market and work out a special way to exploit the niche.

So you have Apple phones
You have covers
You can get original designs for covers, UK design, china built and so on..

IF YOU DO invent something NEW, leave uni and enjoy your wealth (Give me a call too)

:D
Signed, your friend ;D

Or a remote that will switch the car on and start to heat it up/ Defrost the windows without me having to go out and turn it on.

A device that prevents Tony Fearon from starting new topics....or better again just prevents him from using the Internet in any form.

You can currently buy one of these in one of those magazines that do dog baskets and winter boots and other such shite.

I always thought that having a computerised drinks ordering and paying terminal at each table in (bigger) pubs would have appeared before now. Always a pain in the backside in a crowded bar (a) trying to get to the bar in the first place (b) remembering what everyone ordered (c) trying to cart the whole thing back down again. I know decent places will have waiter service but sometimes its a curse getting their attention. Easy enough to implement a wireless terminal on each terminal which you order through and pay via credit/debit card, then voila in a minute or two drinks are at the table.

Yea, I like this idea. And you can decide who bring the drinks to you - like robots dressed up as, say, Pamela Ballantine or something like that.

Sallys has a couple of tables with the pumps on the table. You just buy as many pints as you want and then pull them yourself. Never used it tho.
