Sorry folks if I am duplicating an old thread, but have been looking around today first day back at work and all that, for some unique type accommodation for a short break. Something to look forward too over the next few weeks. I have been looking online but cant seem to find anything unusual outside of England or Scotland.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thinking along the lines of the log cabins in Scotland or Tree Houses/ Tipee's - anyone any experience of these on this side of the channel?
Stay in George Best's childhood home in Cregagh Estate, Belfast. Conceal your perceived religious/cultural identity though.
Boats on the Shannon from Carrick on Shannon? Might not be available for a while yet until it warms up a bit.
Not very different, but you can rent a house on Lusty Beg island in Fermanagh - involves a car "ferry" trip (of about 50 metres).

I was trying to book brothers stag hher but it didn't suit. Reviews are very good on tripadvisior. I know the village it's small!

Would recommend a few days in the larger of the Arran Islands. Not completely an "unusual" place to stay but has a hell of alot to be seen/to do for such a smallish place. Walking, fishing, cycling, gargling, scenery, boat trips, historical sites, cliffs, wildlife (whales, seals etc) ,beaches and an airplane trip etc there if you want.
Pound for pound the best place I was ever at.

Some of our friends stayed in a yurt - I think it was in Leitrim. They had the kids with them but they didnt think it was as good as they expected

Went on a rip/holiday with 50 others to Aranmore. Stayed in tents, best holiday I ever done especially with a crowd, went about at our leisure, rented bikes, fire on the beach, pub all night, no guards, went swimming, walking. Was in the summer though so the weather suited.

The neighbours used to camp down in Castle Ward all the time with a camper van. They sold it after the summer but just spent a few days in the tee pees there. They loved it and recommend them highly.
Nothing unusual with either of these but I'd a great time around this time of year in both.
Rented a thatched cottage in or near Adara (Co.Donegal; excuse spelling if incorrect). Middle of nowhere and yet only a 20/30 min walk to a great bar in the town.
Turf fires, mist covered landscape and the sound of the Atlantic ocean.
Also stayed in Dumbeg; Donegal again, (again excuse spelling) near Gwenore. Same set up but the front of the house looked straight on to the Atlantic / north sea. There was a hotel nearby with great craic (view point hotel??), not far from Dumbeg village, part of the gaeltach I think.

Stayed in Wicklow lighthouse once for a week and it's a great getaway from it all type place. As Rois suggested the Shannon waterway is IMO the great hidden holiday gem of Ireland. Hire a boat and off you go, north or south, at your own pace stopping in any village you like on the way. Once you've had enough, back on the river for another meander.
