Here's to a speedy recovery.
Best of luck to him, hope he recovers very quickly.
Thoughts and prayers he makes a full recovery. An absolute idol of mine, wizard of a hurler and a gent. I still have the stick he gave me after a Railway Cup game in Belfast in 1993. Get well soon Dodger
Jesus - that's scary stuff.
Hope he makes a fully recovery.
Sad news for such a young man. Hopefully he makes a quick recovery.
A bit shocked to hear that, hope he gets well soon. Magic player.
Probably feeling under a lot of pressure with his financial and relationship troubles. Hope he makes a speedy recovery - very young man for this sort of thing to happen to. A sign of the strain people are under these days unfortunately.
I wish him the best in his recovery.
I can only imagine the pressure he has been under the past year or two. Hopefully this is just a warning and that he recovers very quickly. He's only 41 after all.

Two suicides in my home town yesterday.
We need to stop torturing our own. I hope he makes a quick recovery and hopefully it is something minor.

C'mon D.J. I hope you can hear that roar, D.J. , D.J., D.J., that used go around Croke Park because everyone will want you to be well and back with us again soon.

I feel so sorry for him. Hopefully he can find stability again doing his thing away from the glare of the media.
I hope DJ has a speedy recovery.

Usually don't agree with this Heffo fella but he's spot on here. Some things shouldn't be put in the paper. It's his business and people should keep their noses out of it.
The journalists who write these kind of articles should be let known that it's not acceptable. Maybe a visit round to their homes for a quick chat about it might make that message clear.
For those of us who would never buy the independent or go to their website, can someone name the 'journalists' who are responsible for these articles?
Time to shame the scum.

Look at their website if you really want to know. Are you planning on 'calling round to their homes for a quick chat'??
Ok, I've done some digging. Here's some of the lowlifes who have been making money writing stories about other people's misfortunes.

The subject of the interview in last Sunday's Indo didn't exactly give the impression that she was talking to the media reluctantly or under duress. Most or all of the really personal detail (cancelling wedding dress order etc) was in direct quotes from the interviewee.

Plenty of journalists have had stories about people that they choose not to print in respect for the people involved. People who put decency ahead of earning a few quid.
The people who don't have that decency should be told it's not on. I've posted a few above.

Read those two. Who's business is any of that? It's got to the point where people think having stories in the paper like this is acceptable. It's not, they should be let know about it
Edit: actually I had linked two articles but I don't want to spread it further.

After Brian Whelehan naturally :) I'm only slagging. The news reports today are much more encouraging, but it's still an awful shock to realise someone like the dodger would be as human as the rest of us.
As for the gutter press, there is nothing we can say about them that hasn't already been said. It's good to see them reinforce it day after day. But who buys it and keeps making it profitable for them to run this sort of crap?

Is anyone actually interested? Is there people out there who get enjoyment reading about other peoples misfortunes?
The news seems to be better today. Happily, it doesn't appear to be heart trouble - the RTÉ sports news a few minutes ago said that it was believed to be a panic attack.

How often do RTE report on panic attacks elsewhere in the population?
Isn't this confidential medical information ?
Sports star + millionaire TV celebrity + romance + breakup + money problems = public interested (if not exactly 'public interest' material) = media coverage.

Front and 2 or 3 inside pages on Indo today. He is high profile to a degree but not to the extent to warrant this volume of coverage. Very intrusive and a sense of relishing his recent misfortunes come across. His ex partner seems to have been a willing participant in the interviews on last Sunday's papers though.

Does the public have a right to know what the medical diagnosis is?
The circus will have moved onto something or someone else Friday.
What difference does it make to anyone to know what the diagnosis is? Shouldn't that be private ?
Couldn't they have left it with "is undergoing tests".
Anyone who pays for it is an idiot. Most hotels offer them for free.

the Indo said that he could even have been a premiership footballer if he had been from Dublin.
That says a lot about the Indo.
The "even" word in that sentence says everything about the Indo and its attitude.

I think you're confused; I harbour no ill-will to either the GAA or rugby, I'm not the one sniping at rugby like we're in Operation Desert Storm.
It goes without saying I wish DJ well, there would be no need for my response if rugby wasn't somehow wedged into this discussion already.
