Was there any need for the subtitles?

Not for you and me, and it was home from home for Billy and Shamrock Shore! I have to say I really enjoyed it. I knew nothing about it which added to my enjoyment of it. Hard bastards the main men, funny the women running from the cameras.

Some show, the video taunts were gas. Big lad did well in the heat in the last fight in fairness to him!

Given the low budget involved they probably only made one print of the film and as I'm sure they had to sell it internationally that probably explains the subtitles.
Wouldnt have knew a word some of them boys were saying without the subtitles. Hardy hures
Learned 2 things. Steep your hands in petrol for 20 min a day and your fists turn into blocks, and don't blow your nose after you get your head kicked in cause it swells the eyes!.. More chance of the latter being useful though!..
Well worth a watch.
A few familiar faces on show. Have to say, have always found the Joyce's in Mullingar to be 100%. Making inroads into the GAA too with Paddy Joyce on this years Westmeath U21 team.
I enjoyed watching the show as well . How the feck would they expain the 60k they had on them when going over to England to fight if they were stopped ? The younger Brother fairly bulked up in the 9 years hardy looking fcuker.
Good show alright. I wondered myself why they had subtitles as I could understand every word they said!
Must be a midlands thing :-[
Thought it was funny that one auld boy (the pat spillane of bare knuckle boxers) thought the standard of Bare Knuckle Fighters weren't as good as the fighters in the past and he then went on to say that his brother lost the fight because he was not the full shilling , i was have expecting his brother to ring him up and challenge him to a fight :D
The last fight, Martin or Michael V the Quinn lad that was over in London with the 120stg prize pot.
Why was it the case that his brother and a few others travelled over to Luton with him but they stayed in the hotel for the fight itself and had to get it relayed over the phone to them. Was this to defuse tensions at the fight itself and prevent any trouble.
It was gas that they, in turn, were relaying the fight back to Ireland as it was relayed to them.

You got it in one. Family members aren't allowed at these arranged fights to prevent further trouble. The "referees" are all from other traveler families.

I didn't see it but if it was only bare knuckle fighting then I cannot see how it could be connected to Longford.
Now if there was slash-hooks, grapes, hedge knifes etc then I would see a Granard influence.
I hope the Revenue Commissioners watched this!
The underside of the story.
Nine people, who were accused of behaving in a threatening, abusive and insulting manner on YouTube, have been bound to the peace for two years.

Anywhere to watch this? Hearing rave reviews about it, doesn't seem to be on the RTE player.
Have it on DVD Benny... Give me a shout!! ;-)

Good man, throw it into the club when your down that way, cheers.
No joy with the link - black north?
Did anyone notice Paddy Doherty as one of the referees at the last fight in Luton?
I'd say that doesn't live up to his reputation at the minute as a "lovable rogue".
Repeated tonight on BBC Four at 22.00.
Tis on now
Caught the second part of it on BBC4 last night but missed the beginning.
Wha twas the background to the feud, there was some mention of videos being made and one man being killed but I didn't pick up enough to put it together?
Missed it last night, when is it on again?

It will probably remain for a few weeks, then a few related clips will start to appear and before you know it the iplayer will be covered in clips.
I watched this and it brought back serious bad memories. My father was a bit of a gambler and when he was unable to bet, like in the middle of the night as in those days in Internet and computers hadn't been invented, he used to get me and my 5 brothers and 7 sisters up and put us into the yard and made us fight bareknuckled and he pretended to be betting on it. I got some serious hammerings as a 5-yr-old although he always made me fight my oldest brother who was 22 so it was a bit of a mismatch. I got my own back when I had a flashback during my confirmation and decked my father during communion.
I laughed more than i winced, compulsive viewing. There should be a reality show for Granda Joyce, i'd watch that, mad as a bag of cats.
THE woman found beaten to death in her home yesterday is married to one of the stars of a documentary film about violence in Traveller culture.
Jacqueline McDonagh (34), a mother of three, was found with "horrendous injuries" at around 3am yesterday morning in her home at College Manor, Hoey's Lane, Dundalk, Co Louth.
Her husband, Michael Quinn McDonagh, was a subject of the 2011 Ian Palmer-directed documentary 'Knuckle' and the pair's marriage was shown on the film.
The documentary, which followed violent feuding between the McDonagh, Nevins and Joyce families, was filmed between 1997 and 2007 and released last year to critical acclaim.
The director was first introduced to the world of Traveller bare-knuckle boxing at the wedding of Ms McDonagh and her husband.
It was at the wedding that he met James Quinn McDonagh, Michael's brother and the McDonagh family champion fighter.
Mr Palmer was introduced to the brothers by a fellow filmmaker who was doing the wedding video for the couple.
Training
Last year, Mr Palmer described how he was invited to undertake the project after attending the wedding.
"A couple of weeks later, the other brother, Paddy, gave me a call," he said in an interview.
Mr Palmer was told that James was training to fight and was invited to film it.
"So it was step-by-step. I was never focused on forcing my way into this world. This world opened up. A crack opened," he added at the time.
Many movie critics reacted positively to the documentary and its behind-the-scenes peek at Traveller life.
'Knuckle' won acclaim at the Sundance and New York film festivals and was shortlisted for a Grierson Award for Best Cinema Documentary.
