Title: Importing a new vehicle from the UK

does anyone know if you import a new motorbike or vehicle from the UK into the Republic are you exempt from UK VAT on the Vehicle?

Surely if you got the bike/car from a dealer here, you'd have to pay the VRT here.  Can't see waht you are trying to do.

The VAT here will be 23% plus VRT so it's hard to see any savings as the pre tax prices are? ( were over the years) higher than here.
I remember some years ago  some folks from the 6 North Eastern Counties  :D buying new cars in Cavan and taking them across without paying VAT/duties here as they were paying it up North(East) . They saved quite a bit as the pre tax prices were lower ... and presumably exchange rates were in their favour.

A new vehicle not registered in the UK should be VAT free. You should be able to pay the VAT and VRT in the Republic.
The value lies in the pre-tax price, as Rossfan says a lot of people in the North used source their wheels in the 26. However with Sterling high at present, best value may not lie in the UK price.
