Can't find a thread for division 1 so thought I'd start one.
Wins for Kerry, Mayo & Down, with Armagh and Cork playing out a draw.

Dublin maybe the only possibility of an away win this weekend.
As a Down man we have suffered 2 hidings against Cork last year so i would settle for a good performance.]
Will the semi-finals be played at neutral venues or in croke Park?
1 Cork 2 1 0 1 33 20 3
2 Armagh 2 1 0 1 24 20 3
3 Mayo 1 1 0 0 14 8 2
4 Kerry 2 1 1 0 27 25 2
5 Laois 2 1 1 0 23 26 2
6 Down 2 1 1 0 23 35 2
7 Donegal 2 0 2 0 24 28 0
8 Dublin 1 0 1 0 11 17 0
Is this a head to head job for relegation rather than score difference?
This puts Donegal on a sticky wicket as one imagine they've lost to two teams that might be towards the bottom of the division, as Donegal will probably be also.
Armagh has a good chance of getting something from 2 of the remaining 5 games which will hopefully keep them clear of the drop zone.
Having played two of the best teams in the division, Armagh should be a fairly sure of staying up. They should be able to get another win from somewhere - hopefully not on their next day out though :)
Donegal look like they're in relegation trouble with Kerry, Cork & Dublin still to play.
Hard to know how the rest of the teams will fare yet.
Amazing that the Armagh focus hasn't changed from avoiding relegation to getting into the playoffs yet!
With games against Laois, Down, Donegal and Mayo still in the offing there's absolutely no chance they'll be relegated.
I'd say that all teams bar "the big three" are still looking at relegation albeit Armagh with the most confidence of avoiding it.
QuoteAmazing that the Armagh focus hasn't changed from avoiding relegation to getting into the playoffs yet!
Hopefully we'll overrun Mayo and then perhaps we can think of other things.
Well, Eoghan O'Gara shoved it down all our throats tonight. Fair play to him.

It could have been Bernard Brogan wearing an Eoghan O'Gara costume.

Anyone see the Donegal vs Cork game at the weekend? How did Fintan Goold get on at midfield for Cork?
He must be their fifth choice in the position.

Two defeats for Mayo and a Down win over Laois would keep Armagh up even if we get turned over up in Ballybofey. Though, you'd imagine at least one of those results will go the wrong way for us, so it probably will come down to winner takes all in a fortnight. If Laois, Donegal and Mayo tag on another win each there could be an awful pile up on six points, with the potential for only score average determining whether a side gets a semi final spot or relegated
With one round left, the 'big three' have managed to get to the top 3 positions.
Only Kerry have made it to semi final so far.
And only Kerry and Cork are safe from relegation

That's only relevant for promotions and relegations, is it not?
Don't actually know but surely it applies to deciding semi-final places as well.
Beat Donegal and were safe. Easier said than done. If Mayo lose to Kerry and Dublin (quite possible), and Down beat Laois, Armagh are safe regardless.

you have got to assume at least one of those results will go against us. Its going to be a real battle up in Donegal. To be honest I'm pleased just to be in with a chance of staying up at this stage, giving all the troubles Armagh encountered in this campaign.
If we win and Laois beat Down we could be in the semis.. :)

Thats not right!! If Dublin or Kerry beat Mayo, we beat Donegal, and Laois beat Down. Would I not be right in saying that would leave us in 4th place?
if .... mayo lose remaining last two games v dublin and kerry
if laois beat down
if armagh beat donegal
Armagh 7 points
Laois 6 points
Down 6 points
Mayo 4 Points
Donegal 4 Points

Is it not even more confusing in that if Mayo and Cork both beat Dublin, then a win over Donegal also puts Armagh in the semis. Also if Armagh loose to Donegal they can still stay up if Mayo loose to Dublin and Kerry and Down beat Laois?

Yes, technically Down are 3rd and Dublin are 4th at the moment, with Dublin having a game in hand. If Dublin draw or beat Mayo they will obviously move ahead of Down. But oddly enough, even if Dublin lose to Mayo, the Dubs will still move ahead of Down!
A Mayo win would see all 3 teams on 6 points, so points difference rather than head-to-head would be used, and thus Down would be down to 5th as they have the worst points difference.

From Armagh's prespective, I think the situation now is that we lose, we're down, if we win, we stay up and would make the quarters if two of Down, Mayo and Dublin lost. If we draw we'll join a clatter of other teams on 6 points and I think our score difference would be enough to make us doomed.

because of the scoring differences i think its basically the winers of donegal v armagh and laois v down stay up. the losers go down. is that correct?

Yeah pretty much. Although, Laois need to beat Down by more than two points to overtake them on points difference.

If this came from gaa.ie it could very well be wrong. After Mayo beat Dublin, I checked out the site and it had the Dubs awarded Mayo's points and scores. A day later it was corrected.
Table came from RTE - draw only showing in points element

Mayo were 4th favourites to win the league before it started. The bookies are never far away. I would say the bookies would have the had the favourites listed as:
Kerry
Dublin
Cork
Mayo
Donegal
Down
Armagh
Laois
Only the positions of Dublin and Down come as a slight surprise.

Confirmed Fixtures: Allianz Football League Division I Semi-Finals Sunday, April 15, Croke Park: Kerry v Mayo (2pm), Cork v Down (4pm).
They should throw in the dublin vs galway hurling play off make it a treble header
Dublin are really fifth on the head to head with Donegal.
So the top 5 this year are the same as last year, only in a different order.

It ll be like a Railway Cup match.
They should give the cup to the team that finishes top of the league. No point having more games if there is no interest and its not making money.

Why should division 2 teams be in a league semi-final?
The old way would of been;
Kerry v Fermanagh
Cork V Longford
Down v Kildare
Mayo v Tyrone

Why should division 2 teams be in a league semi-final?
The league has been changed many times over the last few decades even talk of going back to Div 1a 1b next year & those semi finals would make more sense than a 3rd,4th place team in 8 team Division.
There seemed to be good response to this last week so here's my tactical piece on Cork's win over Dublin in the last round of league games yesterday http://action81.com/blog/?p=5687
Cork are so frustrating. When they started with quick, direct ball into the full forward line they looked like they could beat Dublin by a cricket score. Then, they went back to their old ways of slow, laboured build up in the backline and looked toothless in attack. They need to come onto the ball at pace and break through the tackles and they didn't do that yesterday.
