It was a bright spark that invented it.

Three very funny clips in the show:

24. Dom Jolly answering his mobile very loudly on a boat in Amsterdam
25. Jim Royle cursing because someone had taken the batteries out of the remote
97. Alan Partridge admitting he had taken apart a trouser press, and couldn't reassemble it

Surely the no1 is the tv, unless you are in Moortown or Galbally noone plans their evening around watching a lighter being flicked.

Television is amazing. Virtually every other form of human activity improves and develops as we learn and get experience in its use.

Remote control for me anyday. TV (obviously) a close second. No time for a chicken and egg philosophical debate though. Not sure TV is a gadget though.

Remote control isn't much good if there's no telly to point it at

TV is not a gadget, it's an appliance. Nobody calls the Fridge a gadget, and that's more important than the TV.

I think gadgets have to be small, knacky things in my mind anyway. The iPhone is a gadget, the netbook is a gadget, I don't think the TV or a desktop computer is a gadget.

Not one mention of the Guinness Widget. The brits obviously changed their minds on that one. They were big fans a few years ago...
