Who do you follow?
Only just joined and wondered who people like to follow.
Is it all just dumb celebs talking crap or is there anyone interesting worth following?
Footballers - LFC players, Ferdinand (self proclaimed king of twiiter), Rooney, Cesc, Wilshere, Roobie Savage. They all fairly bland - ferdinand and Savage about the best. Robbie Fowler has joined and is decent - he put on his famous Cup Final suit the other night and posted a picture.
Golfers - Westwood, McElroy, Poulter, Donald etc be all active on it.
Rugby - Kearney, Bowe and O'Driscoll post a bit.
Journo's - general decent to follow and pick the ones that you normally have interest in. They do promote themselves alot.
Big Sam is a must - a paradoy of Sam Alldedyce. Thinks call TheBig_Sam. Plenty of these comedy ones on the go.
Sky news girls - obviously!
Its endless really but plenty for your own interests.
Paul Galvin? :D

Definitely. Absolutely hilarious! Not sure what their names are, but type Woy Hodgson into the search bar and Dimitar Berbatov, 2 fake accounts that I found funny. Not a patch on Big Sam though.
Is always plenty of banter with the golfers, especially Poulter and McIlroy - some of the stuff cuts to the bone. Also follow Westwood, GMAC and Luke Donald.
Flintoff, Darren Gough, Des Kelly (sports journo), Matt Dawson, Prof Brian Cox, Shane Warne (no pics of Liz as yet!), Dara O'Briain, Dermot O'Learny, Jimmy Carr (just posts jokes!), Chris Evans, Simon Pegg, BBC Breaking, engadget, James Cracknell, Wossy etc.
fairly addictive alirght. O'Gara now trying to get more followers than BOD but can't see it
Piers morgan is a p***k, him and the utd players have a nice wee 'rivalry' going.
I am determined to get a reaction out of him sometime. few boys I know got a reaction out of lee dixon, jermaine beckford and wayne mccullough on it. was pretty funny
Think Twittet is a great job, I was very wary of "social media" but I believe it was ONeill that set me on the right path as I thought Facebook was the biggest pile of inane shite, he said you can control what reaches you so from that regard Twitter is good. I follow quite a few football journalists, Tony Barrett Times, Phil McNulty, Sid Lowe,Rory Smith, Oliver Kay Times, Guillem Balague and then Eamonn Mallie, Guardian News, BBC Breaking news, Louis Theroux, Tony Parsons, Des Kelly, Engadget, Stuff Tv, Adam Schefter, Matt Williamson, Ross Tucker (NFL journalists for ESPN), Mike Tyson, Ian Poulter, Graeme McDowell, "**** of the day", Charlie Brooker, David Schneider.
Graham Norton, Brian Dowling, Stephen Fry, Will Young, Graeme le Saux, Freddie Ljungberg, Alex Attwood, Stephen Nolan, Elton John, KD Lang, Carl Lewis, Billy Jean King, Navratilova and Fr McCann.

Cullyhanna and Armagh heart-throb Ciaran McKeever occasionally tweets - worth following...
There is a Rooney spoof also - Kai Wayne. Some laugh!

Anyone think that Twitter actually works better on mobile devices rather than on a PC? In that it's far easier to read.

Anyone think that Twitter actually works better on mobile devices rather than on a PC? In that it's far easier to read.
It does, I have maybe accessed it once on my laptop.
Only joined the tweeting brigade last week but enjoy it so far. So easy to unfollow people that you get sick off/tweet to much ie SkySports. My whole page was full of SkySports news at times.
I follow a few of the guys mentioned above inc. footballers, golfers etc along with a few of the horseracing crew. Also follow Mumford and Sons and they tweeted late on Monday night about a gig they're doing in London next week and only for that i would have missed out on tickets as they went on sale on tuesday morning. There was no mention of it on their facebook page so Twitter has already served its purpose in that sense.
I find it far simpler to read on the iphone rather than the laptop, even if my laptop is on i'll check it via iphone.
Chloe Everton (Sky sports presenter) was good craic until she was taken down for been too racy.
I was following OBL but not a tweet out of him in days. I wonder is something wrong maybe his phone fell into some water ?
Only got into this myself lately here are some I follow or have followed.
John Aldridge - The legend,He has replied to me a few times when I have asked him questions on Liverpool FC. He he gets some awful abuse from Manure 'fans' about Hillsborough.
Ian Poulter - Knob, getting tired of him at this stage so might unfollow
Mcilroy - seems decent
Lee Westwood - Also seems decent
Paul Casey - Decent
Rio Ferdinand - Followed him for about a day, complete knob..why does anyone care if he has dropped his kids off to school or not?
Robbie Fowler - He is good to follow
Piers Morgan - Class the way he winds up the Manure fans/players
Official Liverpool FC - Very good for day to day news from Anfield
Luis Suarez - Great to follow, always has a message straight after a game
CLGLaois - Great for Leix men for following club/county games and for team sheets etc
Di Stewart - The hot golf presenter from sky sports.
Shane Lowry - Can be interesting to follow
What sad f**kers you all are :D
Does follow mean you have to have an account?
I don't have one - but I look at McIlroy, Poulter, Nasri, Cesc and Jack wilshire - with the odd gleek at big Rio.
Checked McIlroys last week to see him tweeting (?) with a fella I used to go to school with in Omagh! Needed a double take.
OptaJoe is fairly interesting I think. Great for anyone interested in stats - apparently if all the shots in the Premiership that have hit the post were goals instead, Arsenal would already be champions!
It's easier to follow someone when you have an account. I like it tbh. You can choose what type of stuff you get to see and it's handy for keeping up to date with the latest GAA happenings. I use it to follow stuff in the NBA as well. I don't get the "I've just scratched my hole" stuff at all but I suppose it depends who you follow.
jimmycarr is funny one to follow
don't really like savage but his twitter is usually interesting
Alot of decent Gaa twitters about, our twitter is regularly updated & very good as a match tracker if you happen to be away, Connacht gaa is also good for updates, news etc..
Plenty of GAA players online now with some good banter.
I tweeted a joke about the elections and the BBC just read it out live. Whoop Whoop!

Guardian Sports journos - Barry Glendenning, Sid Lowe, Rafa Hoenigstein are all good.
McIlroy seems like a good lad. Tweeting about doing jagerbombs in the bot seems strange for a kid with the world at his feet!
BBC Breaking News is another very good one.
Think someone said **** of the day - can be good, can be crap.

Yea, one of many. They seem to do that and then back down after a short while and return. To be fair to him and his like, there are some feckin weirdos out there who just constantly message celebs trying to be their mate and sometimes abuse them if they don't reply. Really sad.
The most valuable aspect to Twitter is the search function. If there's something happening in any form anywhere in the world, you can usually get more info on it instantly from eye witnesses - especially if you're on the road and there are road closures or going to a venue and want immediate information on parking etc.

You were tweeting about your bowel habits. I didn't need that.
@dabollix is very active tonight.
I'm following over 600 which I could do with cutting down but I don't look for a particular person's tweet, just see who is tweeting at a particular ten minute period a few times a day. Find it a great portal for accessing stories and links I'm interested in that I could take ten times as long to discover through other online methods, because I'm following the right people.
Great thread.
For some very witty Irish related topical tweets I'd recommend @colmtobin and @eamonlowe

He's on twatter.
A Premiership footballer has gained an injunction against Twitter. This should be interesting.
He has more injuctions than premiership medals ffs.
Piers Morgan said on Twitter "Ryan Giggs needs to get a new lawyer". I have no idea what this is in relation to...
Maybe he should of won partner of the year as well as sports personality of the year!!!
Fergie talking about twitter today, "I don't know why anybody can be bothered with that stuff," he said.
"How do you find the time to do that? There are a million things you can do in your life without that.
"Get yourself down to the library and read a book. Seriously. It is a waste of time.
"It seems to have a certain momentum at the moment. Everyone seems to want to do it."

Too many characters there.
I can't Imogen why #ryangiggs is trending on twitter.

I'd imagine it could be strongly argued that it is.
It is a form of "social media" - the people who publish on it may not be professional journalists (although some are), but they are still writing in the public domain.
Lawyers have been advising their clients to view tweets in the same way as they would a newspaper article or press release.

any thoughts on giggs suing twitter? as daft as it seems- will everyone who tweeted "Ryan Giggs is suing twitter. I can't Imogen why?" be named as defendants?
Re the sueing of twitter - When the celebrities name finallly comes into the press (and i believe its only a matter of time) it has been blown up that much that he's in for the worse time of any of the cheating celebrities! Surely he would of been better coming out in the open bout it and do the whole we're going to work at it article in the filthy tabloids to save his marriage! Instead he's now made a complete sc**bag of himself by 'ruining' Imogen Thomas life cause he has the money to do it!
Twitter is hardly the only place the name is on either. This Imogen Thomas story, and the whole injunction thing in general, is fast turning into a farce. What's he going to do - sue every web-site with his name on it? The only way anything good can come of it if is innocence is proven.
Yep I would agree if "he" is guilty, which it very much looks like, he's going to get crucified by the papers.

Any good GAA lads to follow on it? I follow the Dublin lads but they don't say too much.
I find there are a few younger lads that are on county panels that are worth following because they aren't afraid to have the craic on it. Older players come across a bit cautious to me on it.
I haven't really got into twitter so forgive my ignorance with this question. How do you know if you are following someone that they are who they say they are? Could you not have someone pretending to be someone?

It's a fair point. Celebrities used to ask Twitter to verify their account (it will have a tick mark) but I think due to the sheer number of people using it they gave that up. Number of followers is the main yardstick.
Have had a twitter account for quite some time, but only recently starting using it on a regular basis. It's a good way to keep up to date with soccer transfer gossip and I enjoy some of the local political commentators on it.

Was it that obvious! A few like him though. There is a local player on twitter and to see his tweets you'd think he was Kieran McGeeney.
Did anybody notice last week Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all tweeting David McKenna of Crossmaglen a happy Birthday?

Yeah I am not sure too many have been fooled by his new thinking mans footballer image, you need to do more than quote Nietsche to stop being a dickhead. It has been good for him in the sense I am sure it has led to more endorsements and has improved his image, he was on QoS a few weeks ago and that would never have happened in his pre-Twitter days. He lets his guard down now and again which is always amusing. I would imagine the whole Twitter thing was at the behest of his agent/pr people.

While Twitter can be ok for keeping up to date with news and the like, its getting more and more overpopulated with RT's "Please RT for my granny for shit for the first time in 4 days today, thanks" and promotions and the like. Or "celebs" retweeting someone praising them or abusing them.
Takes time to wittle the people who actually entertain rather than just let you know they are going for dinner.

Time to do a bit of unfollowing me thinks.

I know he's a total kn**ker but the exchange between Leon Knight and Jamie O'Hara this last few hours in unreal. Serious abuse for O'Hara's wife Danielle Lloyd.
how does twitter work?
You create an account and click to follow people/clubs you are interested in and hear what they have to say. You can post yourself if you think the world needs to hear your own words of wisdom. All very simple and immediate.
Knight keeps on the way hes going, he be looking at a jail cell, horrendous stuff, is there any footballer out there without twitter and more to the point is there any of them who are not f**king dimwitted idiots with an IQ in 2 digits
Leon Knight @LeonKnight82

Twitter is great for the football updates. That's all I use it for now. I got fed up reading the crap that GAA and soccer players posted.
Is there something wrong with Knight? That was unbelievable. He's already got sacked by Glentoran for comments on Twitter what the f**k is he playing at?
Also why would O'Hara even engage with him? Is Knight not just a nobody?
Read some of the Knight stuff earlier. Some really low stuff there.
What sparked it? What's the relationship between the two guys?
Knight was a youth at Chelsea and a superb prospect. However his attitude didn't match his ability, and it's plain to see why.
Was crazy stuff and Knight seems to have really lost the plot, I doubt he would have many friends in the game at this stage.
No doubt he is trying to raise his profile and he thinks this is the way to do it, probably seeking a new career in the celeb reality world.
Sad individual who has issues.
He must have been blew out by Danielle Lloyd the way he was attacking her on there
It was a completely unprovoked attack as well by Knight.
Even though some of the posts are probably funny as an outsider looking in and it makes for great controversary (im a bit low brow :-\) but you cant help to think but that what an utter bellend this lad Leon Knight is. At the end of the day, whatever she has done in her past is just that, she now seems happily married with afew kids and she doesnt seem to be in the spotlight anymore.
Knight is just the lowest type of scum you can find and needs to do something outrageous to try and remain somewhat relevant.

I dont think theres any chance of O'Hara getting his revenge on the pitch anyway, since Knight will never reach anywhere near that level of playing again. He was at a couple Irish league clubs, is that right? Colraine was defoinatley one.
Wild abuse he gave Dannielle Lloyd, shocking, BUT, am I the only one that thinks it was funny as hell? Some of the expressions he came out with, the shower gel comment, and the tonsils comment. ;D She had that reputation, no doubt about it, she wanted to be a 'WAG' thats for sure. He's an absolute tit don't get me wrong but he stood out like a sore thumb in the Irish League. He is/was banned from playing in England and possibly Scotland too, for some reason or another hence playing for Glentoran and Coleraine. Apparently he rarely trained for Coleraine and they just flew him in for games, saw him come on with ten mins to go against Linfield last year and he scored an overhead kick with his first touch! still a douchebag though.

Indeed! A ridiculous statement. Soccer is far and away head and shoulders above all sports in England/GB yet they can still win X amount of medals each Olympics!!!!

Its one of the issues alright, every country would have its competing sports and vast majority of Olympic sports are minority sports in one way or another.
I think it is the common attitude of GAA players that they are some sort of supreme athletes. While they are supreme athletes in their own field (no pun intended), they are a long way off the level that many of these athletes are at and thats just to qualify, albeit many would have been full-time. To be successful, is a different level altogether.

Dick should try and work on blocking himself from f**king shooting, big horse feet near hit the shed roof when Monaghan lost to Down.
On that related topic and the levels that Olympic athletes go to reach a high level and how they work at the smallest of detail to take seconds of their times or improve their perfromance, this piece on football365 compares this to the modern soccer star who struggles to use his weak foot. Small comparison could be made to Gaelic players who struggle to use both feet and both hands.
http://www.football365.com/john-nicholson/7967858/What-If-Footballers-Tried-That-Hard... (http://www.football365.com/john-nicholson/7967858/What-If-Footballers-Tried-That-Hard...)
Not having a go at GAA players either but its a fair point, the soccer star is vastly overpaid and often underperforms.
The legacy of the games in London could be to wake up to the way soccer has gone and the money involved, a rebellion as such. The entertainment is there if you seek it.

Not sure, he'd be a bright fella and maybe pushed himself down these lines. I would actually enjoy his Monday pieces in the examiner. Maybe it followed from Twitter as he was always topical on it and had opinions. Far from been controversial like Parkinsonor some of the others, he'd be fairly on the fence and that helped.

They have a big population. I'm not sure about the numbers but I'd imagine at least 10% of their population do track and field.10% of their population is around 31,000,000 or 32,000,000. That is still massive compared to Ireland, where we have maybe 40,000 senior athletes. Not to mention all the other sports where a minority in America is still a massive amount of people competing in reality.

Have a read of this about a internet troll who followed this guy and made his life a bit of a misery until he tracked him down and confronted him. Appears to be based in Ireland, can't say I know of him.

It worked (kinda) for Steve McClaren on his travels.
He's trying to justify it now on twitter, says that in a press conference full of french journo's and his scouse accent, it was just easier to do a Allo Allo accent. You had to be there he reckons and he has also referenced a link to McClaren doing it.

He knows he always comes out of it looking like the good guy. Barton can't help but take the bait. Calling him a coke head in a public forum wouldnt be a great idea.
I have little or no time for Barton but Didi did start it. He knew Barton would respond.
Barton being an obnoxious **** ? Never
I think Hamann's intelligence may be overstated ... But no doubting Barton's scumbaggery isnt!

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/queens-park-rangers/9801632/Joey-Barton-and-former-Liverpool-and-Man-City-midfielder-Dietmar-Hamann-in-frankly-hilarious-Twitter-altercation.html
The last tweet by Barton is priceless:
"Disappointed in myself for getting involved in that" !!
I love this bit "Barton and Hamann, of course, played together in the Manchester City midfield for a season. They parted ways in the summer of 2007, since which time one has become a washed-up, semi-retired has-been whose considerable footballing talent is now a fading memory and who lives his life vicariously through Twitter in an attempt to recapture the renown he once enjoyed, and the other has remained Dietmar Hamann. "
The solicitors letter must've landed from Hamann...
On Monday evening tweets exchanged between Dietmar Hamann and I went beyond the boundaries of banter, opinion and common sense.
I accept that my comments were offensive, untrue and related to matters of a personal nature, of which I had no knowledge.
I have apologised to Dietmar personally and now wish to apologise through the same social media channels that I used to make them, as well as my own website.
I appreciate my comments have caused Dietmar and his family some distress and I fully regret that.
I also appreciate that my comments should not have been made, as they could have damaged Dieitmar's reputation, which should remain intact as a fantastic player and ambassador for German Football, as well as the game in general.
Dietmar and I have now agreed to draw a line under the unfortunate exchange and neither of us will be making any further comments on the subject.
Quote from: hardstation on January 16, 2013, 10:38:56 PM
Whatever about Barton, Hamann comes across like a right walt.
He knows exactly how to push Barton's buttons.
Hamann comes across as a bit of a pillock. What good could have come from that exchange for him?
Stupid.

Yeah but it's Barton. It's like bullying the weakest kid in school. Anyone could troll him. A self righteous, pseudo-intellectual fcukwit who doesn't like it when the class clown gives him a few home truths. Fcuk off, Dietmar....
Rant over.

Exactly Hamann didn't have to indulge in the personal stuff as he knew a few pokes at the hornets nest would stir things up nicely. Worked out well for him as Barton (again) ended up looking like a balloon.

Both of them don't exactly come out with any glowing praise. Barton took it down a level and is the only one of them that has had to issue a public apology to avoid any legal action.
