Title: 2011. What do you wish for?
Post by: Bud Wiser on December 21, 2010, 01:26:19 PM
A few of mine;

That all GAA Players at all levels will have jobs and be able to afford 40 pairs of shoes and shopping trips to New York, or even York.

That there are no more tragedies on the playing fields and off them like some of the ones we saw happen this year including those involving county players.

That the GAA get more involved in our national day, Saint Patricks Day and spend a penny on parades in our major cities and allow admission to Croke Park for a fiver to everybody on Paddy's Day or else have a Charity Shield game and charge a tenner and give half to a nominated charity.

That GAA HQ can cop on to the fact that the new Director General of RTE, Noel Curran is a GAA man through and through and goes to games in Croker and that when he takes up his position in January they use him correctly to balance things between RTE and TV3 to advertise all games in the county championships instead of just those held in Croke Park.

That Dublin win the Leinster hurling championship and there is a Leinster team in the AIF Final !!

EDIT: Meant to say that I hope also the GAABOARD.COM Charity Golf Outing makes a good few bob for the chosen charities.

Greencastle build upon the great performance of their first year in Division 1 in Tyrone ACL.

Tyrone blood more new players and show potential for more success in the future.

Same as last year:
- Stay in Division 1
- Find a few new players
- Land the Ulster

Even the first 2 are a big ask.

Ronan clarke to stay injury free & form a formidable forward line with Stevie & Jamie
Play more expansive & attacking football like we played in the league final & not revert to dour defensive systems for the championship
To beat Down in the first round of ulster at home

- To see a bit more equality for club players and supporters compared to our Inter County players.
- For our club senior side to show meaningful improvement.
- Another good year for Owen Roes at underage.

Roscommon Senior's getting promotion & winning Connacht titles at every level (could hope for All Irelands but i'm a realist)

Best ever All Ireland Championships & for fans to be on the field when Sam Maguire/Liam McCarthy is presented.

Ireland to win the Six nations & beat England by a high score,Ireland to qualify for euro 2012 & another treble for Man United.

Make more money, travel to 10 different countries, a warm summer in Ireland for once, tolerance among different ethnicity's and religions, a government that actually gets things accomplished, safer streets, happy children.

And finally more Irish staying instead of leaving this island.

A clean sweep of Connacht Titles for Ros ... or failing that an All Ireland win in any of the grades.
Rugby and Soccer to be abolished.
Ulster bucks to boycott the GAABoard.
A new Government which wll believe that the plain people of Ireland and their well being is very important.
Work to become available for our young people esp Roscommon lads who can play football.
And last of all ... that the imbecilic officials of Ballagh GAA club will join thier own Couny for GAA purposes.

I thought this was just GAA wishes. Well, here goes...

1. I wish that the little 'project' I'm developing takes off in 2011.
2. I wish that I finally get a car and learn to drive.
3. I wish that I have as a good a year in work in 2011, as I had in 2010, if not better.
4. I wish that my health doesn't give me much trouble in 2011. 2010 has been a particularly bad year for me.
5. I wish I get a woman. Any offers here?  ;D

To blood the young lads successfully, get a settled team sorted and sneak promotion from Division 3.
Win Leinster and finally make an AI semi-final.
Hurlers to retain Div 2 and give a decent account in Leinster.
Play every minute of every game before the body seizes up completely.
Fianna Fáil to be wiped out after the election.
Fine Gael not to be in power after the election.
The bondholders get burned.
The wife figures out how to switch channels over to AV for the DVD player without me having to "run through it one last time", again.

To make matters worse my Christmas present to the household (we got practical this year) was an amp and stereo speakers for the telly. Have a CD player connected into the amp as well, which gives untold heartache when switching from that back to the AUX input. I only have myself to blame.  :'(

I had early posted for health and happiness but got that wish re-enforced yesterday evening.

Just after christmas last year, 28th Dec a good ground of us where heading to the Farney Barney in Monaghan, the white collar boxing event. One of the lads didn't make it in, texted to say he was literally pissing blood and had to go to doctor. A few days later he underwent a massive operation to remove a huge tumour and he was in a bad way. He recovered well, obviously badly shock mentally and physically but it was positive.

Last week he was having a follow scan and spots was picked up on his liver. Following further tests they said they would be able to treat it and it was 50/50 but on Tuesday they told it it was too aggressive, he had concer of the hipbone, his bones are leaking calcium and they can treat it to slow it down only. It is probable that this will be his last christmas.

34 years old, with a young fella the same as my wee lad, 3 years old.

Knocked me for 6 yesterday evening when I got the call.

So for 2011, I wish Glen has a comfortable year as possible and he can enjoy what time he has ahead of him with his family as best he can considering what will be weighing him down.

2. Rubberbandits to read the News from now on (Sharon can stay).
3. Various bankers, politicians and developers to be put in stocks in every town.
4. Citizens permitted required by law to kick the holes of those in 3 above.
5. Mayo to become seriously competitive again.
6. Ziggy to get a woman.
7. Ireland to beat a Southern Hemisphere team in the rugby World Cup quarters or semis.
