I have a consultation in a few weeks with Optical Express about getting this done.
I have heard mixed reviews on the results of the surgery. Can anyone share their experiences and give me an idea of the costs involved? Would love to get it done, but I have some reservations.

I`m in the same boat.
We are all blind bastards by the looks of things, im very interested in this too and was thinking about it last week. Wearing glasses for wathcing TV, driving and all is pissing me off. Contact lenses are good but if they dont sit right then f**k they can be irritating.
Wife had it done last year by Optical Express, cost depends on how bad your eyesight is. Her eyesight was pretty bad (insert lame joke here) Her surgery was £1700ish with a couple of hundred discount through work. She said was best money I have ever spent...........
Have often thought about gettin it done myself, but never followed through on it. I've no real hatred for glasses, and my eye sight isnt that bad. (-2.25L and -2.50R)

Saving the pounds to get this done myself - hate having to wear glasses for driving tv etc it pisses me off - hat contacts as they dry me eyes and irritate them - had great eyesight up until about 4-5 yrs back then it got real bad.
I assume this will be much cheaper in the black north?
Had it done about 18 months ago by Optimax on Lisburn road. Cost around £800 per eye.
Now to be honest I am very squeamish about my eyes, and I nearly backed out at the last minute, but it was worth it.
From getting the drops in to freeze the eyes to having it done took around 15 mins....that was it.....home with the groovy sunglasses and eyedrops, driving the second day after.
Just keep using the drops and keep the eyes clear of dust etc and home free after 7-10 days.
Only regret is that I never got it done ages ago.

Has the consultation in Optical Express about 18 months ago myself. I was only suitable for the newest and most expensive option. £4,500 for both eyes. Will have to wait until price comes down to below £2k to even consider it.

DO they do the 2 eyes at once or will they only work on one eye one day and then the other eye a few days later or what?
Had it done 8 years ago. Would highly recommend it. Cost €2500 per eye at the time and got them both done at the same time.
Slight burning smell when your are getting it done and an intense pain afterwards. They recommend ya sleep for a few hours when you get home. I couldn't sleep and the pain was horrible. Once I eventually got to sleep, I woke up with no pain or discomfort.
Had to wear goggles to bed for first few weeks so as not to rub eyes in my sleep and goggles in shower to avoid water contact with them.
Definitely best thing I've ever had done. Was barely able to see the screen in front of me & distances were a big blur beforehand. Have better than perfect vision now.
My friend got it done by the same Dr a few weeks before me. She had trouble with her night vision while driving and had to go back a few times to get it corrected but has had no trouble since.
got it done nearly 3 years ago now- best thing I've ever spent money on- cant believe i didnt do it earlier. No pain- got it done in the morning- no pain, slept the afternoon and next day it was as if someone had replaced my tv with a super HD number.
MAKE SURE YOU GET IT DONE SOMEWHERE WITH A GOOD REPUTATION
don't let someone loose on your eyes unless you absolutely trust them
The only person I would recommend is Dr Gerard Kervick, he works out of Ultralase in Belfast.

Each case is different, I had both done in the one visit.
Optimax on Lisburn road in Belfast were excellent.....after care was superb.
I got it done in the Wellington Eye Clinic in Dublin, both eyes at once. Its a wierd sensation, and you find discomfort that evening, but it is well worth it.
My eyesight is -2.5 (left) and -3 (right) so I considered it, but my reading sight is perfect and I rarely use glasses to read/type etc. As the surgery would correct the distance it may worsen the up-close so therefore I declined to get it done.
Even those who get it done will prob need reading glasses once they go over 50.
Considering this myself as i can't see a f**king thing across the street when people are waving at me or on the golf course it's like spot the ball
How about all that are interested putting in a proposal to one of these companies, should be able to negoitiate some sort of decent discount. All coming out with white sticks lol
There's a Dr Frazer in Hillsborough who is the best in the business...
Totally private and a little more expensive than most but well worth it and comes highly recommend by opticians!!

And you're comparing him to to which opticians that offer Laser-eye surgery on the NHS exactly??
I got it done a few years ago and it was fantastic afterwards to be honest. Was glad to be rid of contact lenses. However you will probably still need reading glasses at some point. My eyesight even since has deteriorated again a little bit. Plus don't cut corners with cost just for the sake of it.

My wife had such surgery carried out by Dr Frazer, very professional by all accounts.
My sister is an optition and she does't recommend it

Got it done in August at Optical Express in Belfast. Think your prescription wee bit worser than mine, I'm paying £2600 all in ... and yes, I would recommend it

Totally agree, my wife had her eyes done there and it was a first class job. Bit more expensive but a quality product.

Got it done at Ultralase in Belfast 2 weeks ago for £2700. Eyes are a bit bloodshot but my sight is perfect. Feels brilliant
Thanks for all the help lads, I get the impression that I'll be doing well to get it done for less than £3000. It sounds like a lot of money, but when you think about it, it will even itself out in terms of money spent on contact lenses and glasses over the next amount of years!
