Chelsea are still able to spend big, so I think they'll be favourites next year. City likewise but I can't see them making second.

Chelsea
Arsenal
United
City
Spurs
Liverpool
Villa
...

Yup far to early for this thread but judging by last season Chelsea & united finished at least 10 points ahead of the rest without playing at there best! maybe if city spend another 200 million they might close that gap?

Ok time to bump this thread...

If Man City don't finish in the top 4 this season the owners should be sent packing

Hard to see past United/Chelsea for the title again, let battle commence  8)

Can't wait either, should be great. Can't see passed United or Chelsea either. Arsenal will be the same old same old, flatter to deceive.

I really hope it goes tits up for city but it's hard to see it happening, Manchini has a ridiculous amount of talent at his disposal, pressure will be on. I expect them to make a great start but how they will last will be interesting.

Liverpool - Only way is up, surely it couldn't get any worse than last year. Spurs, will they push on from last year or do an Everton from a few years ago and fall back after a great season? Villa....good night and good luck after losing O'Neil I'm afraid.

On a side note.....

How is Hernandez getting away with "Chicharito" on the back of his jersey (which actually kinda annoys me, whats the bets eejits will try and shorten it to "Chica" which translates as girl from spanish)

While Carlos Tevez wasn't allowed to have "Carlitos" on his jersey?

http://www.imscouting.com/global-news-article/Cesc-Fabregas-could-join-Barcelona-in-January-when-Arsenal-are-out-of-title-race-says-Xavi/9425/

Barcelona midfielder Xavi expressed his disappointment with the club's failure to land Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas , but, echoing remarks made by the Catalan club's vice president, stressed that the transfer was not dead.

"We've given up on the idea of him arriving now, but maybe he'll come in January when Arsenal are out of the Premier League title race," he was quoted as saying by Tuttomercato. "Their team are just not competitive."

"Arsenal are wrong to have forced him to remain there, they can't just hold him against his will," added the Barcelona vice captain.

Fabregas accepted at the weekend that he wouldn't be moving to Barcelona after Arsenal rejected a final 40-million-euro bid for the midfielder from the Nou Camp outfit.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admitted that Fabregas was torn between staying at the Gunners and moving to Barcelona, but hailed the player for his "respect."

Bit like Benitez who was playing for Birmingham (I think) last year - he had Chu Chu or something like that on the back of his jersey

City will make the top 4 but I think that'll be it. There's no way they'll get a settled team but, at the same time, with all those players they're bound to score for fun. The defence will be brutal though. Mancini will have a tough time dealing with all the egos, especially if that gobshite Balotelli comes in! United looked impressive on Sunday but I reckon Chelsea will still be the team who comes out on top.

Things that are likely to happen this season ;)

1.) Liverpool fans claiming to have the best team ever after beating Blackpool 6-0

2.) Arsenal kids being hyped up as best ever as they beat some no mark team in the league cup and follow it up by a loss against someone decent

3.) Ferguson banning at least 1 journalist every month

4.) Arsenal fans moaning about the physical nature of opposition teams as they once again get undone against lower table opposition

5.) John Terry being involved in some scandal or another most likely cheating on his misses again and his misses forgiving him.

6.) Bolton to finish 13th and an early exits from all cups

7.) Mancini to be sacked by Christmas

8.) Tevez to start bitching for the 10250th time about how United did not make him feel loved

9.) Sky Sports will claim it's "Super Sunday" despite the fixtures actually being Bolton v Wigan in the morning followed by Blackpool v Stoke

10.) Spurs crashes out of the CL early, goes through a poor spell and are in mid-table by December. Then makes an almighty effort and gets back to 5th by end of season, only to miss out the 4th spot

11.) Manchester City will pay silly money for an overrated striker in the January transfer window

12.) A player from a big 4 club that doesn't win the title will get injured for few months, it will then be claimed by the fans that had he been fit they would have won it.

13.) Fergie will complain about there being no value in the market & categorically state that Hargreaves is 3 weeks away from a return

14.) United will be 'out of the title race' about 6 times and be 'right back in it' about 7 times

15.) If city beat united once then they will be claimed the kings of Manchester

16.) There will be another Chelsea fan caught on camera brushing his teeth

17.) The World Cup will be blamed for players being tired during the season

18.) Pundits will mention how great it is to listen to football crowds and not vuvuzelas

19.) Joe Cole will score more goals than he did last season.

20.) Carlos Tevez will score fewer goals this season than he did last

Wanna add some more??

21) Roscommon relegated to Division 5.

22) "Rooney the White Pele" title to return after he scores 6 goals against the team that beat Arsenal kids in the Carling Cup (see 2) above)

23) Lots of pundits will find reasons to call for 'technology for referees' and talk about Lampard's 'goal'.

24) Rooney wins player of the universe, a Nobel prize and wins Stephen Cluxton's All-Star.

25) At least one more Premiership Club will go bankrupt.

26) Top 4: Chelski, Arse, ManUre, Moneychester.

27) Bottom 3: WBA, Blackpool, Stoke (Villa just survive the 'too big to go' down battle).

22. After two injuries, Mancini will cry foul that his squad has been limited to 25 players.
23. Rooney will have a two month spell when he is simply untouchable.
24. Some of the more salient commentators will notice that Terry isn't the same player without Carvalho. By the end of the season everyone will be saying it.
26. Arsenal's form lines with and without Fabregas will be inversely proportional.
27. When Blackburn beat Wigan, Big Sam will be hailed as an effective manager, and Martinez as a man who has to drop his principles. When Wigan finish higher than Blackburn, it will be hailed as a small victory for football purists.

Your not the 1st Dinny to pick United in 4th or lower, must consider united last four seasons 3 titles in a row & last season lost the title by 1 point... when was the last time United finished outside the top 3... 20 years ago?

If united avoid the injuries they got last season they will regain the league & if i were Arsenal fan i would be looking over my shoulder at City,Liverpool & spurs looking to take their Champions league spot

P.S if Torres remains fit (big if) he will be the top goal scorer

Take away Fergie and Man U have a very average squad with only a couple of players of a world class standard (Evra and Rooney, I'd include Ferdinand but he's never fit). Fergies gets the absolue maximum from his players, Forlan is one of the few players that has played better after he moved from OT the rest generally fade away. But part of their success was buying the best players in EPL, since they can't afford it anymore, the decline started last season and will continue. Liverpool are just huff and puff, don't have the squad but will have periods where they string together some good results, fancy them to win a cup. Man City will be a force, just need to become a team, as for the Spuds, out of their dept in Europe and will not have the experience to cope with both. Everton could be a surprise package...

Is Joe Hart really that good.  Given was in great form last season, dont understand why there is even discussion about who should be number one.

Gareth Bale is going to be player of the year.

I'm always suspect when I hear about English keepers being talked about as the real deal and the next world class keeper.  I have heard the same about Nicky Weaver, Richard Wright, Paul Robinson, Chris Kirkland, Robert Green and Ben Foster.  Not one of them has become the supposed superstar they were being talked about as.

Galwaybhoy, I watched Hart during the week and again today and two things really stand out about him. One is confidence, which is just amazing. The other is his positioning. He is always in the right place.

I've not seen a lot of him beyond that, but Birmingham's clean sheet record last season would suggest this is one hell of a keeper.

If Arsenal get a goalie in they'll win it, think Chlesea are entering a transition period and Man U are not the force they were, gone are the days when they use to sign 2 or 3 quality players every year, bigging up an unproven Mexican as a great signing  ???

1. Arsenal
2. Chelsea
3. Man City
4. Man U

Maybe they should target Given.

Just out of interest how many players of a world class standard is on the Arsenal, Chelsea squads?

The only ones I could remember this morning was Stoke and it said two something, but was very unclear.

However it also showed clear as day, Wigan 0 Blackpool 3!!

I told the boys at work before I left at 3, and they laughed at me!! What odds would I got on that!!??

Anyone have Marlon Harewood on their dream team? Blackpool are some craic! Joe Hart was excellent today, doesn't bode well for Given. Horrible first half performance from City, but it's doubtful they'll go for such a negative formation the next day with Yaya Toure, De Jong and Barry in the same team, thought Shaun Wright Phillips was brutal as well and Johnson was very dangerous when he came on! Seemed to be an entertaining opening day and I can't wait till MOTD tonight.

Interesting point from Wenger!!

He has been an outspoken critic of a system that hinders the ability of players to play, and encourages agents to become even more mercenary. He was dismayed to read how Stephen Ireland's representatives are asking for a hefty pay off to move him from Manchester City.

Wenger points specifically to a clause that could mean that players such as Ireland, left on the fringes of their squads, will legally be able to extricate themselves from their contracts. "If a player plays less than 10% of games in a season he can get rid of his contract. It's a Fifa rule. I would like to know whether, when they voted for [the new system] in the Premier League, that they knew about this rule."

Wenger is referring to clause IV, section 15, of Fifa's regulations on the status and transfer of players. It states: "An established professional who has, in the course of the season, appeared in fewer than 10% of the official matches in which his club has been involved may terminate his contract prematurely on the ground of sporting just cause.

"The existence of a sporting just cause shall be established on a case-by-case basis. In such a case, sporting sanctions shall not be imposed, though compensation may be payable."

Fifa would judge each individual case, but it would hardly be difficult for a player excluded from a squad list of 25 to argue he has not had a fair chance to play.

According to Wenger, the Premier League have not thought through the consequences, particularly for players who are on pay-as-you-play contracts. "If you have players who have incitement for competition, which means they are paid when they play, they can go to court for that money because they never had a chance to play," he said. "If you are not in the 25 how can you play?"

There are meant to be 3 England players with injunctions now, and I see their names being banded about on other forums, but you can never be sure how accurate it is. It would be a calamity for them if they were named wrong....

This is a year old but still rings true. From a disgruntled QPR fan. Seen it on another forum. Thought it was excellent

"I take more pleasure in seeing Chelsea lose than I do in seeing QPR win
at the moment.

I sat through so many matches when we were absolute dog**** under the
likes of Ray Harford and with people like Paul Bruce, Matthew Brazier
and Mark Perry in the squad and I never felt like this.

The club isn't ours anymore but moreso than that - football is just
properly gash these days.

I mean really gash.

football generally.

I hate nearly everything about it these days....

I hate the Prem and the myth that it is exciting this year. Man City
breaking into the top four isn't exciting. They spent loads of money.
It's no more exciting that Nameless **** getting to number 1 in the
charts after winning the X-Factor.

I hate the myth of Arsene's kids. Buying some French kid when he's 17,
playing him in the League Cup and then selling him when he's 20 after
about
3 appearances in the league is NOTHING SPECIAL.

I hate hearing about Liverpool/Man Utd's debt but nothing ever happening
about it. A club needs to go to the wall for the money thing to change
but it doesn't happen. Why the **** are Charlton, Leeds and Southampton
still in business?

I hate Frank Lampard's stupid ****ing face. I hate that Joe Cole's
tongue is never in his mouth. I hate John Terry
being England captain when he's CLEARLY AN OAF.

I hate young exciting wingers who have nothing but pace. Tony Scully had
nothing but pace.

I hate Harry ****ing Redknapp. And Jamie Redknapp. And Louise Redknapp..
And the Wii.

I hate Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer.

I hate Garth Crooks.

I hate Garth Brooks a lot for that matter.

I hate Sky Sports.

I hate that when a lower league player beats 10 players and chips the
keeper it doesn't matter but if Rooney scores from more than 20 yards
it's amazing.

I hate that female sports journos are now mandatory.

I hate Mark Lawrenson for not coming out. 'I do like a big man at the
back'.
I bet you do.

I hate any advert that portrays football to be about anything other than
pain and disappointment.

I hate Lee Hughes and the fact that he makes a living from the game. I
hate Marlon King and any team that signs him when he gets out. I hate
that it'll probably be us.

I hate Phil Brown.

I hate 'well the ball is a lot lighter now and will cause goalkeepers
real problems this summer' before EVERY ****ING TOURNAMENT!

I hate that Kieron Dyer earned more in the time I took to write this
post than I'll earn this month.

I hate Adrian Durham, Ian Wright and Alan Brazil.

I hate Gazza. Either die or shut up. Stop ****ing lingering.

I hate hearing about Hillsborough more than I hear about Heysel or
Bradford.

I hate Leeds.

I hate Roy Keane.

I hate grown men wearing football shirts of their team whilst shopping
on a saturday when their team is playing at home.

I hate that I don't hate Roy Hodgson.

I hate Jermaine Beckford and any player who has neck tattoos.

I hate songs being inappropriately taken as club anthems and then sung
in a manly way. 'I'm forever blowing bubbles....'. Gaylords.

I hate Danny Dyer and anyone he's ever interviewed.

I hate the book 'Cass' by Cass Pennant. It is honestly the stupidest
thing I've ever read. Chapter 1: Millwall. 'Yeah we took 50 to Millwall.
They had 1000 in their mob but we ran 'em up and down the street'.
Chapter 2:
Liverpool. 'Yeah we took 50 to Liverpool. They had 2000 in their mob but
we ran 'em up and down the street'. **** me... Jade Goody's
autobiography is probably better. Even her non-ghost written one.

I hate that all good youngsters end their careers at Spurs before they
start."

Over 260,000 fans worldwide voted on Barclays Football Facebook page to pick the ultimate XI, with United - by far the most successful team of the Premier League era - providing seven players past and present.

United keeper Peter Schmeichel beat off the competition to win his place in between the sticks, while Gary Neville and Patrice Evra occupy the full-back positions.

The highly decorated Ryan Giggs gets the nod on the left hand side of midfield after a glittering career spanning the entire existence of the Premier League, while fellow veteran and the equally evergreen Paul Scholes takes his place in the middle.

David Beckham claimed more votes than his fellow United number seven Cristiano Ronaldo to line up on the right while Eric Cantona, the man widely credited with sparking United's incredible run of success back in the 1992-93 season, plays up front.

Just for good measure, United provide the manager too, Sir Alex Ferguson leading the side from the bench having won an overwhelming 64 per cent of the vote.

Liverpool's talismanic Steven Gerrard breaks up United's dominance in midfield, while Chelsea's John Terry and Arsenal legend Tony Adams - both great leaders of men - were voted on to the team at centre-back.

Completing the team is Thierry Henry of Arsenal, who lines up alongside Cantona in an all French forward line.

But there were no places for the likes of Roy Keane, Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Vieira or Alan Shearer in the elite XI.

Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce believes he is good enough to manage any of Europe's top clubs.

Allardyce, once a candidate for the England manager's job, arrived at Ewood Park in 2008 having survived at Newcastle for less than half a season.

Ahead of his team's clash with Fulham, the 55-year-old said: "I would be more suited to Inter Milan or Real Madrid.

"It wouldn't be a problem for me to manage those clubs because I would win the double or the league every time."

Although happy in his current role, Allardyce added: "Give me Manchester United or Chelsea and I would do the same, it wouldn't be a problem.

"It's not a problem to take me into the higher reaches of the Champions League or Premier League and would make my job a lot easier in winning it."

Yep Shearer is the all time top premier league goal scorer while i don't think there was a more influential premiership player than Cantona

Lampard instead of Gerrard?

Bollix!!!

Keane and Vieira ahead of both of them!

Forgot about Vieira, equal with Keane in my eyes.

BARCLAYS FOOTBALL FACEBOOK FANS' ALL-TIME BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE XI:

GK – Peter Schmeichel (without doubt)

RB – Gary Neville (the weakest selection on the team but other than Irwin not much competition)

CB – Tony Adams (How could they pick Adams? Did only English people vote? Did they ever see Paul McGrath?)

CB – John Terry (See tony Adams)

LB  - Patrice Evra (hilarious inclusion ahead of Cole/Irwin)

RM – David Beckham (Now you know it is an english thing as United alone had two better players here in Kanchelsis and Ronaldo)

CM – Paul Scholes (He would never have been picked ahead of Keane by Ferguson for United but here he is  ::))

CM – Steven Gerrard (Every Liverpool fan must have voted for him because very few else would)

LM – Ryan Giggs (without doubt)

CF – Eric Cantona (I'd have Shearer and Van Nistlerooy ahead of him and possibly Bergkamp)

CF – Thierry Henry (without doubt)

MANAGER: Sir Alex Ferguson

October has some good looking games on paper

Chelsea v Arsenal (how many will Drogba score this time?)
Everton v Liverpool
Man City v Arsenal
Newcastle v Sunderland
Man Utd v Tottenham

Best team on CURRENT form ie this season from the Big 4 (Chelsea, Arsenal, United, City presently)

Hart,
Sagna, Lescott,Vidic,Cole
Malouda, Essien,Nani
Drogba, Chamakh, Berbatov

Probably not a natural 4-3-3 but hey its my team and I'll pick who I like

So as we're more or less at the half way stage what has been your the team of the season so far?

For me

Hart (Man City)

Baines (Everton)
Vidic (Man United)
Bale (Spurs)

Cahill (Everton)
Nasri (Arsenal)
Van der Vaart (Spurs)
Nani (Man United)

Carroll (Newcastle)
Tevez (Man City)
Berbatov (Man United)

I think by the end of the season a few Chelsea players will make the team of the season.

You're going to take Gareth Bale and play him on the left in a 3 man defence?

Who is going to be there with Vidic while Baines and Bale are tearing up the field?

If the opposition gets the ball at all yer screwed.

Personally I'd have to go 4-4-2. Id stick Bale left side of midfield and Nani on the right. Cahill loses out across the middle.

If you want to stick 3 across the back I think none of them can be attacking full backs.

Maybe a 3-4-3 for me would have

Rio Vidic Terry

Nani Nasri Van-Der-Vart Bale

Your front 3 is as good as the league has currently (on form at least).

Absolutely disgraceful by the premier league and insulting to players in the 25 man squad who are effectively being told by the league that they are not good enough.  Once again the PL should be ashamed of themselves.

This is for me a completely different scenario than if a team has nothing left to play for at the end of the season or end of a group stage as I think thats when a team could possibly be fined for playing an under strength team

16    Wolves    37    -19    40
17    Birmingham 37    -20    39
18    Blackpool    37    -21    39
19    Wigan    37    -22    39
20    West Ham    37    -24    33

I'd like to see Wolves and Blackpool stay up. It'll be hard to call. Exciting end of season at the basement though!

With United having already won the title I think Blackpool will get a point at Old Trafford and after the FA cup final last week I expect Stoke to come back fighting.Birmingham and Wigan to go down

Not gone yet! They need to get a goal or two back though.

Someone is going to become a legend shortly.

A Brum goal will save them and condemn Wolves.

Woops should have kept my mouth shut.

Wolves need a goal and either Spurs or Stoke to score. Fast.

Felt sorry for Blackpool today after all there efforts this season came to nothing today but i suppose they where living a dream this season & today in front of the Champions/75,000 2-1 up they were living that dream again! was refreshing to see the United fans give Blackpool a stand ovation off the field.
