Anyone know when the draw is to be made? St Paul's website seems to be 2 years out of date. What teams have made it?
Armagh Harps
Kilcoo
???
Dungiven (Football) and Ballinascreen (Hurling)
Where's Drici? He reckons on Orchardcounty that Harps meet Cavan champs Killan Gaels in prelim round???
I'll be shocked if any team touches Kilcoo in this. They're the most impressive minor club team I've seen, so fluent it's unreal.
Fermanagh's representatives are Belcoo

when and were was this draw made drici, normally theres a night down in belfast when it takes place
Last night in the bank where Chris Ward used to work.
Scotstown will be handful for anyone, remember them from last year, they had a couple of very useful players all of whom are underage again this year I believe? Creggan, Scotstown and Harps all returning for a 2nd year in a row.
my own club omagh won the under 17 ulster championship last year, the paul mc girr cup in dromore. and they beat the same kilcoo team along the way so i doubt they would fear them to much. would have high hopes that would have a big impact in this tournament:)

Would like to see Omagh do well in this.

This is Scotstown's 3rd year in a row and they got to the final last year. They'll certainly be more than a match for anyone, especially if Aaron McCarey plays(not sure what the situation is there as he recently signed for Wolves).

Reckon they should play the Harps/Killann Gaels match in Casement on Sunday 29th November at noon if the Ulster Senior Club Championship Final is not on there the same day as there was no score board at the Rossa pitch last year.

Omagh won the Under 17, Kilcoo where is it, Dungiven where in it to, was any other of the teams in it and how did they do ?
Kilcoo is near Castlewellan in co down Minors won county and also seniors this year also
i think Omagh and Dungiven will be the best two contenders in this competition. Kilkoo are too small and will find it tough against the better sides
have seen Omagh this year i think that they are very strong and would i think be favourites for the tournament. harps and scotstown will be strong also.
Dungiven very strong contenders... dont rule them out ... same can be said for belcoo and rest of ulster ... all champions... luck on the day will decide ulster champion
Put your money on Armagh Harps.
Omagh would be strong contenders. Were lucky not to win Tyrone last year and have been very strong at youth level in Tyrone last few years.

Haven't seen any betting for this as of yet? Not suprised as it would be a bit of a nightmare for bookies. How anyone can say such and such are certs is beyond me in such a high quality tournament that is normally played in dreadful conditions. Plenty of luck required.
Scotstown's experience should stand to them - 3rd year in a row. I know when we won it we had lost the final the year previously and the experience helped us.

Good point benny, McKenna must have grown as a playera ton over the summer and his experience should certainly help the Harps and also although they didnt play well in the co finale they still won and will feel that the pressure is off them at this stage.
This is an excellent minor team by all accounts and I hope they go on and win the Ulster.
surely you could get some odds from a local bookmaker near saint pauls, if anyone knows where i can get some odds give me a pm, would be very much appreciated
Scotstown will have a big shout in this. 3rd year in a row as has been said and that experience does help you an awful lot at this level where even a couple of years of an absense can mean a completely different team. They're in the same situation as we were when we won it, the 3rd year in a row and beaten in the previous final. They should do well.
Fermanagh's representives Belcoo were also in the competition last year, having been narrowly beaten by a good Creggan side. However Belcoo have lost a number of players since last year, but still have county minors Eoin Leonard and Johnny Feeley has commanding figures. I feel that they can still give Dungiven a game of it on the 5th December. ;D Omagh, Kilcoo and Scotstown look the favourites. Is McCarey allowed to play for Scotstown?

Not the same place.
What´s the news? What´s the news? O my bold Shelmalier,
With your long-barrelled gun, of the sea?
Say, what wind from the sun blows his messenger here
With a hymn of the dawn for the free?
"Goodly news, goodly news, do I bring, youth of Forth,
Goodly news do I bring, Bargy man!
For the boys march at dawn from the south to the north
Led by Kelly, the boy from Killanne!"
Tell me who is the giant with the gold curling hair,
He who rides at the head of the band?
Seven feet is his height, with some inches to spare
And he looks like a king in command!
"Oh, me boys, that´s the pride of the bold Shelmaliers,
"Mongst our greatest of heroes, a man!
Fling your beavers aloft and give three rousing cheers,
for John Kelly, the boy from Killanne!"
Enniscorthy´s in flames, and old Wexford is won,
And the Barrow tomorrow we cross.
On a hill o´er the town we have planted a gun
That will batter the gateways to Ross!
All the Forth men and Bargy men march over the heath
With brave Harvey to lead on the van;
But the foremost of all in that grim gap of death
Will be Kelly, the boy from Killanne!
But the gold sun of freedom grew darkened at Ross
And it set by the Slaney´s red waves;
And poor Wexford, stript naked, hung high on a cross
With her heart pierced by traitors and slaves!
Glory O! Glory O! to her brave sons who died
For the cause of long-down-trodden man!
Glory O! to mount Leinster´s own darling and pride:
Dauntless Kelly, the boy from Killanne!
that's a rouser indeed Drici, not the same place as right. Killann Gaels are an amalgamation side Bailieborough Shamrocks and Shercock from the parish of Killann. Hard to know how they will perform, several years since they won a minor title and were outsiders but convincing enough winners in Cavan County Final

lads, dont be counting out the antrim champions creggan kickhams! i have seen them play before this year, they are a big strong side and play a great brand of football! i heard they are undefeated this season and will have learned from their experience in last years competition against scotstown where they lost their composure in the second half after having a good half time lead. many of those lads playing are still minor this year!

The Creggan and Scotstown match was fixed long before St. Galls reached the Ulster Final, and the fact that one of the St. Galls matches was postponed due to the bad weather didn't help either. Its unfortunate but nothing can be done!

I thought he wasn't for playing ? He's a fair minor.
Apparently he was just home for the weekend, hence why he only came on. Some player for minor alright, head and shoulders above his marker in most games, and he'd still be eligible for minor next year if he wasn't away. Big loss for Scotstown him going to Wolves. If I remember right he was playing outfield in the senior championship against Blayney and when they conceded a penalty and the keeper got injured, he went into goals and saved it!

I'll not lie, I've seen little of them, all I'm saying is that a team with their recent record at minor can't possibly be written off so easily.

In fairness you'd have saved it yourself, it was piss poor peno and in fact if law was strictly applied it should have been retaken. He didn't put keepers jersy on and was therefore not afforded the law of the goalkeeper touching the ball on the ground on the small rectangle. But thats neither here nor there at this stage. ;D
Great player and a big miss to club and county.

Fair dues to both teams for serving up a clinker of a game, it was tough hard hitting stuff throughout, Omagh had a slightly cynical edge about them that Harps probably didn't have. The first half was tight, Harps missed a few chances early on and Omagh were more economical with their chances, at 4 each Omagh hit a purple patch and went in 8-5 up at HT. The generally much more physically bigger Omagh team looked to be well on their way to winning mid way through the second half when Harps got a penalty to take them back into the game, Omagh looked to have weathered the post-peno storm when harps converted another penalty (the excellent Conor White took both) and this was quickly followed by another Harps goal from Pudsey Rafferty to put harps 2 in front with only minutes left. Omagh got one back and missed other chances, and eventually equallised with a rather soft looking free (on the balance of the game they deserved as much). In ET Omagh went 3 clear, Harps fought doggedly and near the end of the second period of ET were only one behind and camped in Omagh's half, when Omagh broke up field and scored a goal to end the game.
It was a very exciting game, Omagh are a huge side and have some very talented footballers especially at 3,6, 9, 11 & 12. Harps played excellently all over the field and were a credit to the management team and the club. Just came out the wrong side of the result in a very tight game. Good luck to Omagh, but if Dungiven can blot out Omagh's 11 & 12 they will win.

fair play to both teams for serving up a class end to end game of football. one of the best games Ive ever seen with fine footballers on display. i thought we deserved to win in the end up, but there is no doubt that the harps are a quality team and have great players in 2,5,8,9,13. hopefully we can move from a hard fought match and go the whole way :)

It really is a superb tournament, the quality on show and in relatively poor weather conditions is a credit to all the teams. With 3 of the 4 games so far having gone to extra time the supporters are certainly getting their £5er's worth!

The best part. Gavin McGeehan was coming to the end of his speech when a woman, living in the flats beside St. Paul's opened her window and shouted "We're all f**king hungover in here, now would yis fack aff". Comical genius. She should get some sort of award.
She then went on to sing Ole Ole Ole Ole Ole.
Tom Hartley probably cringed but I, as a west Belfaster, am proud as punch.
Party in Corrib Avenue flats the night.

Hope you are rite. I was at the Omagh game and people were saying it was much higher standard than first game. General feeling was Omagh will beat Kilcoo handy enough...
Game today was competitive but picking from local pool of refs really has spolied a lot of games in the St Paul's Tournament in recent years. That fellow today was very poor and frustrating. Omagh boy got clothes lined near the end and he played on.. the crowd (apart from Oma ones) laughed at that decision. Other times he'd give Dungiven nothing. Still they had their chances. The Dungiven number six did a great job on the big lad Grugan but at the end he did make two very vital catches.
I think the final is next Sunday.
Quote from: hardstation on January 01, 2010, 05:36:36 PM
Omagh will not beat Kilcoo at all if they play the way they did today. I'd back Kilcoo to be honest.
Also, local pool of refs?
Chicken McErlane and Alec Trainor?
Where are they from? That boy today was awful... you can't disagree with that.
Poor showing by Scotstown by the looks of it but seems like Kilcoo are a very good team. Was McCarey playing?
Is Trainor not from Belfast?

Whats weather like in Belfast. What are chances of final being played on Sunday
Think it will be another footie less day. weather to stay like this for a while longer
Pitch has disappeared.
Final now hopefully on Sunday January 24th at 1-30pm.
The 2009 Minor players of Kilcoo Owen Roes and Omagh St Endas have agreed to move away from the chair in front of the fire, put out their pipes, not get up at 7-00am to go for a walk and get the paper, dig out their dried, hardened football boots, pretend that Sunday will be New Year's Day and play the Final of St Paul's Tournament.
Throw in at 1-30pm.
(No McKenna Cup style prices either)
is there a mc kenna cup match on at the same time of the final?
You can dander down to Casey(starts at 2-00pm) and see the 2nd Half of one after the Final in St Paul's.
any predictions for sunday morning lads, think this match has the potential to be a classic, from what i have seen of the two teams they both play aggressive attack minded football, think it will boil down to which defense copes with the other teams brilliant forward lines. i hope our boys will pull through by 2 or 3 points ;D
Good luck to both teams today, hoping for an Omagh win. I'm going for a 2-09 to 1-10 victory for the St Enda's!

tough conditions and credit to both teams... they were droping all over the place with cramp. No matter how many times Kilcoo drew level they couldn't push on. i don't think they were ever ahead yet never more than two behind. Omagh deserved it.
A draw was fair result. Two evenly matched teams and no one deserved to loose. We rue our missed chances but gave a great gritty display. Well done omagh.

Thats what im worried about.
There something about teams like Tyrone, Kerry, Man Utd (the top four), Brazil, Stephen Hendry, Phil Taylor, Celtic/Rangers, Cross, St Galls, Tiger Woods etc etc that neutrals cant stand.
Sustained excellance is admirable, but boring, boring, boring for the neutral.

It's good to see a club from a big town like Omagh doing well. The GAA is struggling in many urban areas, but St. Enda's have shown that it can be done. I wonder how they have been able to bring through such a talented bunch of players? In many big towns, a lot of players are lost after u16 level to other sports. I'm sure the attraction of soccer is as big in Omagh as it is in other similar towns such as Enniskillen, Omagh and Newry.
The GAA club is the biggest thing in Omagh for the youth at the minute. The club is vibrant and have cleaned up every trophy at underage level. Strangely tho a lot of the people who are behind all that were not originally from Omagh... Fintona, Dromore, Newtownstewart...

I disagree. You have to realise this was 16-18 year old lads playing on a very heavy pitch in winter conditions. To say they where rusty is wrong as they have been training and playing since February 2009. Yeah fatigue did set in with a number off players but that has to be expected this time off the year on heavy ground especially on young fellas not fully developed. This was a tight entertaining final off hard physical stuff and it is a credit to both teams for giving so much especially in extra time. Our lads where unlucky, they gave a great account off themselves and too many wides in the first half made us pay dearly. They can hold their heads high. 9 off the first 15 are still underage for the incoming year so this was a young Kilcoo team who will have benefited from their great run. The difference today was two great young Omagh players in Conan Grugan and Ronan ONeill. Grugan in particular is a supreme talent

I suppose the success of Tyrone at senior level has played a big part in inspiring young people in Omagh to take an active role in their local GAA club.
I didn't think Grugan was that great today any more than many other players... he was ok tho. the number 13 for Kilcoo sure played his heart out. Was there a Man of the Match award? I didn't hang about.

Grugan got the award. He was the difference with ball winning and distribution.every time we drew level Grugan won the next kick out. Maybe he was not as good as he normally is but he is a serious player in my eyes. Darragh Ohanlon ran him close to the award though, scored 7 mighty scores starting in full back although he later moved to centre half. Hard to believe he is stil 16.

Soccer has almost died in Omagh. It was a problem for Omagh in the past but the present group have been carefully nurtured through all under age levels. Coming behind them the club has worked hard to have A and B teams at each age and is running underage programmes including the Gaelic start which takes P 1, 2 & 3 children. Great work in an urban setting and doing something which doesn't happen in many if not any town.
very true there have been dozens of men that have put their heart and soul into the youth over last decade and yesterday result made all the effort worth it and hopefully the success will continue at minor and under 21 grades until we capture the ultimate prize.
yesterdays match in my opinion showed all the skills that are associated with ulster football. Great defending from both sides, hard hitting intense football, players who can play in any position and excellent point scoring under pressure. both sides are a credit to their clubs and in the end we did well to come away with the victory ;D

I think you're right TYP, walking round the town you'll rarely see soccer jerseys and a lot of the youth are wearing tyrone or club gaa gear. I think this all stems from 2003, the AI win has inspired a huge influx of children back into the gaa. The lads that won on sunday would have been 11/12 at this time and more than likely chose st enda's over any number soccer clubs due to the hype the AI win created. Long may it continue.

When I first moved to play for St Endas, there were two teams for every age bracket. Given that you usually spent 2 years in each bracket, you generally played for the B team in your first year, and then the A team in your second year unless you were a fantastic talent. Sometimes we'd get taken into the A teams as subs in our first years. Then it all went strangely weird - the youth soccer teams in Omagh began to push through, and great gaelic players did get lost to soccer a number of times, but all of a sudden the great players omagh had been producing kinda stopped. Boys went over to England a lot for college and I remember at u16 and minor having to drive into strathroy to try and get fellas to come out for the games so we could field a team. I remember still being u16 and being picked up from training to go and play for the minors against eglish in the championship (Brian Colton jr scored a belter of a goal that day and I spent the day getting a lesson from Cormac McAnallen in rain soaked Clougher).
The management structures that had been great at underage (Brian Colton, Kieran Canavan, Malachy McAleer, Justin O'Doherty and Sean McRory and wee squeaky Liam) just all seemed to dissappear and we were left with a great clubman who shall remain unnamed - but who didnt have a clue how to mangage anyone!
Our last minor match ended in a defeat to Castlederg in Drumquin and I dont think we even fulfilled the rest of the league fixtures that year. I trudged down to the cousins house in Drumquin still in the shorts and togs and I think I still have the Jersey from that day in the closet. Omagh should historically never have been playing in lower leagues, but maybe it was one of the best things happened the club as it seems to be vibrant and active and moving in all the right directions now.
Great result for St Endas and good to see a young Canavan back in there in the White and black after his big brother defected to glencull. ;)
Good underage players back then were playing for Drumragh on the CBS pitch behind the fire station. Drumragh have relocated, and are a bit out of town these days.

Thats not that true. At that level there was Gavin Quinn who played for Drumragh who was their only really stand out player - they had another fella Starrs playing too, who wasnt bad.
Actually all the good players from the area at that time were playing for Killyclogher.

The GAA club is the biggest thing in Omagh for the youth at the minute. The club is vibrant and have cleaned up every trophy at underage level. Strangely tho a lot of the people who are behind all that were not originally from Omagh... Fintona, Dromore, Newtownstewart...
True gaels getting involved in their local club having moved into the town. Nothing strange about that
and your own club 15 minutes drive away... ???

Young Damien McGloin wrote his name large in the proud history of Omagh St Enda's by striking over a last gasp point deep into extra-time to seal the club's first Ulster minor title in Belfast yesterday afternoon.
His assured finish from the right settled a riveting contest between two evenly matched teams and ensured that the Jimmy McConville Cup, awarded to the winners of this highly-successful St Paul's tournament, went back to Tyrone for only the fourth time since the competition was launched in the early-eighties.
The provincial triumph capped a memorable end to a remarkable odyssey for this group of Omagh teenagers, who have been together for ten years, but rarely will their character and courage have been tested so vigorously.
It also wrote another chapter in the Healy Park outfit's litany of recent underage success stories which makes them the envy of every other club in the County right now.
A distraught Kilcoo side gave their all, yet never once over eighty draining, hard-fought minutes played out on a stamina sapping pitch, did they have the lead.
The official man of the match spoils went to Conan Grugan who was superb around centre field for the victors, but Omagh had heroes scattered over every sector of the field as they fought tooth and nail to stave off the brave resistance of the Mourne champions.
Despite an excellent early point from Ronan O'Neill, whose penetrative runs were a feature of the afternoon, Omagh were generally slow into their stride and were thankful that Kilcoo seemed to have left their shooting boots at home.
The tackling was ferocious and the commitment whole hearted yet nerves were clearly evident as each side struggled to establish any cohesion or fluency. Kilcoo did construct a neat move involving Jerome Johnston and Oliver McClean in the 13th minute which presented the lively Martin Kelly with a great goal chance but he fired over.
However that was to be their solitary score during the first period even though they shaded the possession stakes. With Damon Teague, Darryn Bradley and Stephen Mullan shoring up a solid Omagh defence, Kilcoo struggled for scoring opportunities.
St Enda's were more economical in attack themselves and McGloin tucked over a fine point on the break after being fed by O'Neill in the 20th minute, before the former then created an opening for O'Neill to blast the Red Hand boys two in front. It was an advantage they maintained to the interval. (Half-time Omagh 0-3 Kilcoo 0-1)
The action heated up on the restart with points coming more regularly. Johnston's early free was cancelled out when Omagh sub Cormac O'Neill struck an excellent point from 30m after cutting inside.
However by the 40th minute Kilcoo had restored parity as Johnston slotted over another close range free and Cillian Laverty was on target with an accomplished effort from distance, one of only three scores the Down side managed from open play.
St Enda's were now in a real battle yet adversity seems to bring out the best in this particular group of players and a long range O'Neill free and wonderful point from captain Barry Tierney, who was leading by example, restored their two point cushion again, 0-6 to 0-4.
Darragh O'Hanlon, who grew in influence for Kilcoo when switched up to midfield from his original full-back berth, hoisted two frees from 35m which sandwiched a cool finish by O'Neill at the other end.
With players going down repeatedly with cramp as the underfoot conditions took their toll, Omagh were hanging on desperately to their one point lead, but in the 58th minute O'Hanlon landed a brilliant equaliser to send the match into extra-time at 0-7 apiece.
O'Neill almost pounced for a dramatic goal seconds in but his deflected attempt was palmed away by keeper Daniel Lennon. Still a brace of Grugan frees looked to have put Omagh in the driving seat once more, only for O'Hanlon to retaliate with two dead ball conversions himself.
A stylish finish by Kieran Brannigan shifted Omagh ahead again 0-10 to 0-9 at the short whistle in injury time but Kilcoo weren't done yet as O'Hanlon superbly planted over his fifth free.
It was breathless stuff at this juncture with both sets of players digging deep to try and chisel out a victory. Conor Clarke swivelled to restore St Enda's lead, after good work from O'Neill but back came Kilcoo through that man O'Hanlon once more.
Another period of extra-time looked on the cards but it was to be Omagh's day and with time almost up Brannigan set up McGloin for that incredible winner for the ecstatic Healy Park crew.
any candidates for the best 15 from the tournament??
