A Garvaghy Patron
... is someone who commits to give £5,000 to the Garvaghey project. Being a Garvaghey Patron represents a major commitment to both the GAA and to Tyrone. We'll mark that commitment in modest but meaningful ways. Each Garvaghey Patron will:
Be publicly acknowledged and honoured as part of the fabric of the Garvaghey building
Have the opportunity for five years to buy two tickets for every all-ticket game involving Tyrone
Be presented with a unique Garvaghey Patron polo shirt
Receive a Garvaghey Patron's card entitling them to free admission for five years to every game controlled by the Tyrone County GAA Committee
Receive a personalised plaque marking their contribution and a Club Tyrone Patron lapel badge.
This costs £1000 a year. If you are already are a Club Tyrone member it will be double the comitment. They give you a plaque, t shirt and a badge (FFS Hardly worth £5000). They give you the opportunity to purchase 2 tickets to Tyrone inter county games which is a privilege granted to you usually from your club for most games. The only significant reward is the " Patrons Card". If this card cost £500 along with Club Tyrone membership (Most fanatics are members) this means if you attend 125 games at a rate of £4 your investment will pay off. However if the new back door system comes into force during the next 5 years you may not attend 125 games controlled by the committee because of games may be scheduled at the same time at several venues. It's a difficult call to make. Is it worth the extra £500?

Is it worth the first £500 ?
These things are designed to raise additional monies - I can't see many people sitting down and working out if it is going to be a good move to pay an extra £500 or not.
Club Tyrone is made up of memebers who are passionate sbout Tyrone and are lucky enough to be able to afford the £500 a year membership fee. The Garvaghey Patrons club will made up of people who are lucky enough to be able to afford £1000 a year.
Orangeman, you're completely correct. The idea of the patronage scheme is not to give £1k per annum worth of benefits to the patron, and if you're going to pay it, it won't generally be for the tshirt.
The blunt issue is that Garvaghey has to be paid for. I'm gathering together a group of cousins and we're all going to stick in a tenner a month each and put it in the name of our family. A very affordable way of getting the family involved and getting the lasting tribute on the wall in Garvaghey.
Is there going to be a finite number of patrons ?
Will all CT members be notified as a matter of routine Rois?
Finite number of patrons - yes.
Fear, presume you haven't got the brochure yet, I got mine on Fri/Sat - checked your address and they have the right one this time. They were sent out at the end of last week.
There's a launch event on Thursday if you're interested in coming up to it, at Kelly's. Bit of hike I suppose.
OK Rois, thanks, it might well have arrived by now - I haven't checked Friday or this morning's post yet.
Bit too much of a hike on Thursday perhaps, though would be tempted.
Another innovative idea from Club Tyrone for funding for Garvaghy:
http://www.tyronegaa.ie/countyboard/news/story.jsp?newsid=884
Certainly something that the ordinary fan can do to contribute towards the project.

I see a few (past and present) board contributors have been busy on the pixels already (check out Brian Dooher's jersey ;) )

How many ?
Rois, I'm always impressed with those little publications you send out. They're perfectly presented and above and beyond what you'd expect (although there were a couple of dodgy semi-colons!!)
I see Mark Conway's back on board or was he never away?
There's a few great guys responsible for the publications - the fact that it's voluntary is the absolute icing on the cake.
Mark took a break for a while but when he's needed most, he's back on board.
Coming down on Thurs night O'Neill?

Agreed, top-notch.
Did you get it ok then Fear?
QuoteFinite number of patrons - yes.
Can't really see it reaching the point whereby CT say "Sorry we've enough Patrons and for that reason we can't accept your patronage but will take the £1000 thanks very much"
Where do I get one of the brochures? Would definitely consider a family donation.

But hold on, there's the sticky issue of tickets if we get to an AIF in the next five years. This has been put to the clubs, and in effect it's their tickets that patrons will get. Therefore there's a limit on supply.
PM me your address and I'll get you a brochure.
http://www.tyronegaa.ie/countyboard/news/story.jsp?newsid=884// - the video of the new place looks awesome. 6 pitches, 6 million..

I still think that the 'T' idea is a load of balls - who else except the UDR, Dan McGinnis and pigeons will be aware that it is shaped that way.
Anyone who's seen an aerial photograph ;)
Don't mind it myself, adds a degree of certain uniqueness, and it can can only add to the overall appeal of the place, done right.

would have thought i would add an awfull lot to the building costs.
nice idea in theory but is it really worth it?
will be good to have a complex like this in tyrone though, will be greta for schools games, underage tournament etc

I take the view that it can only add to the costs.

Why not use prefabricated Kingspan timber frame then, keep costs to an absolute minimum. :P
A lot of the the work that's being put into this venture is on a purely voluntary basis, including the design and planning. The extra costs incurred as a result of the T-shape will not constitute a significant proportion of the overall costs, IMHO.
19 members have signed up so far!

Super idea and one that many Gaels from far beyond the bushes would contribute to.
However (and there's always a but with me), I couldn't agree with this bit.

Thinking of £45? Well we hope you're now getting the message. Buy the space for your company logo or simply to give someone who cherishes Tyrone GAA the best Christmas or birthday present ever.
I'm sure most people would be devastated if they got a £45 pixel for their birthday or Christmas. Even one who cherishes Tyrone GAA.

£45 =
9 pixels!
Mrs Oakleafgael has been hinting about signing up. Claims it will be a great investment for Oakleafgael junior and siblings. I took a quick gander around the site a couple of weeks ago, its well worth doing to appreciate the scale of the developement. Its discouraging for a Derry man to say but the Tyronies are a country mile ahead of the rest of the province with regards to coaching and the Garvaghy scheme will go a long way to keeping them there.

Technically 3,600 pixels according to this.
QuoteEach box of 20x20 pixels costs only 5.00 GBP!
Still won't be buying one as a present for the wee lad. Don't think the "It's really nine pixels" line will be of sufficient comfort to him.
This reminds me a bit of the time the FA had 1 million spaces to be filled on a flag that was to be brought to (I think) Japan / Korea world cup. They didn't charge anything for posting a message. Some of the gaaboarders had some fun there.

The 1 or 9 is what you would see on the grid (regardless of the underlying electronics).

20 x 20 comes from the Tyrone website (hence the quote).
But the whole thing is too confusing for me.
Appranetly it is possible to purchase a £10 pixel.
QuoteThe £10 pixel will give you the opportunity to leave a larger mark that again will always be visible, both on-line and at Garvaghe(sic)
Now what is the difference between the £5 and £10 pixel.
I'm confused.
FoSB shouldn't really start "Gaaboard Pedantic Fecker of the Year" competitions with me.

I think that the £10 pixel just means two individual pixels, which will appear as one -- they might have been better to clarify with something like "... the smallest £5 pixels can be combined to create bigger pixels (effectively)".

Anyone up for gathering a few fivers and sticking a picture of Tony Fearon and / or Nelson McCausland on her.
What do the numbers in brackets beside the picture on each set of pixels mean?

I could live with the bould Nelson or Tony - the thought of either going apoplectic would certainly be worth a fiver.
At least you didn't suggest that hoor Bannon.
Remembered at 7.40pm that this was on tonight.
You've missed the tae and buns!
Great night, packed room, good buzz, interesting guests and a number of patrons signed up. A very successful night. Jerome filmed it so should be on Tyrone website at some stage.
And we had chicken or beef curry and pavlova, plus a free drink or two.
Great stuff Rois (and not just the curry and drinks -- though ONeill will be sick, for the absence thereof)! Did you see your cousin T (he was leaving too early for myself)?
I did indeed, he mentioned you. Also said he thought there'd be a patron or two in TAD so watch out!
So I hear, ever observant! ;)
30 patrons already signed up.
35 actually, according to the Chairman here - http://www.vimeo.com/album/133824//
great to see the large turnout last night - i have no doubt more patrons will sign up over next few days and weeks after the great presentations from the various speakers last night - i also think the pixel idea will be a real success - give a few pounds and enjoy the craic - and club tyrone will happily take money from any county that wants to put its logo on !!
http://www.tyronegaa.ie/clubTyrone/news/story.jsp?newsid=885// - this is why club tyrone works - listen to the patrons who live in Belfast, Dublin, Donegal, wherever, in the top video. They're totally committed and they try to get others on board.
