Colm O'Neill has been impressive this year

Does anyone know the exact criteria for this award? Does the player in question have to be u21 or in their first year at inter-county level or what?

Has to be u-21 I think.

I think it is that the player is u21 and played less than 4 championship games the previous season.
Thus Tommy Walsh is excluded from consideration.

Would have thought Kerrigan would be in the running (if he is still U21) but he was a bit inconsistent as the year went on.

Michael Murphy for me.

If Colm O'Neill had played on after the goal (of the season) he might have got it.

Aiden O'Shea had a great year for a man who recently got his Leaving Cert results but needed Mayo to go at least another round further.

Kerrigan wouldn't be far off 24.

O'Neill would be the only one on that Cork team eligible for it I'd say.

O'Neill had a poor final. Aidan O'Shea had a very good season but Michael Murphy wins hands down for me.

total non factor in the final, laid an egg, but did play well the rest of the year

I'd go for Murphy too.

On a kind of related issue, does anyone else think there should be a minor player of the year award? And maybe a club player of the year too.

Club Player yes. Minor no. Will create even more expectation for lads barely able to buy a pint.

Ml Murphy might get a full allstar with Colm O Neill getting YOung Player of year. Colm O Neill won a Sigerson and an Under 21 medal this year. In fact he has 2 under 21 medals. Was also voted Cadburys Hero of year.

I dunno, I think there's too much of a rush to assume that young lads will falter under the weight of expectation. Anyway, a young lad playing at that level will already have to deal with plenty of expectation, regardless if an extra award is thrown on top. I'd rather go ahead and recognise their achievements than worry about something that may or may not affect them.

As far as I know you can get both. And Murphy will.
