All-Ireland winning hurler Gerald McCarthy was warned in a menacing phone call that if he didn't resign as Cork hurling boss he would be shot dead.
The revelation came as Trevor O'Reilly (30), yesterday pleaded guilty before Cork District Court to making a menacing phone call to the home of the former Rebel hurling boss.
The phone call was made on March 5 this year at the height of the stand-off between Mr McCarthy and Cork's 2008 hurling panel which had refused to play under his management.
The phone call had nothing whatsoever to do with the Cork hurling panel.
Sgt Martin Canny told the Court that, at 9.24pm that night, Paul McCarthy (28), the son of the All-Ireland hurling star, answered a phone call at the family home.
A voice in a Northern Irish accent asked whether it was the home of Gerald McCarthy, the manager of the Cork hurling team. When Paul McCarthy confirmed that it was, the voice said: "Tell him (Gerald McCarthy) that this is the Continuity IRA in North Tyrone. Tell him if he does not resign as manager of the Cork hurling team he will get a bullet in the back of the head."
...sentencing was adjourned.
Ehat would Tyrone people know about hurling. :D

What would Galway people know about spelling? ;D
All the rebels they have in Cork ::) ...and they had to send for the Tyrone boys
That's fairly disgusting, and probably some eejit getting a friend from the north to ring up. I wonder where BC1 was at the time. Clever ploy to say Tyrone instead of South Armagh though :D
On a standard map Tyrone is more sinister than Armagh.

They wouldn't know the difference anyway, sure there's nowhere apart from the People's Republic of Cork boy!!!
Seriously though, a load of cack if ever there was. Unless they had money on it, but given CIRA's record at shooting they would have missed McCarthy!

Of course, Fermanagh is the most sinister place in the wee 6.

Sure someone with a northern accent in Cork was probably from somewhere like Offaly.

You're dead right there. They think I'm from the North, down here.
That was hard to say.
Someone should check Ziggys phone records for the night in question. (Is Greencastle North Tyrone?)

I thought this thread might have been about the wolf on the loose in Tyrone and no I don't mean Ziggy, an actual wolf. ;D

Is it not possible that the accent was put on? Would seem more likely than some boy getting his mate from up here to do his dirty work for him.
Is tracing the source of a land line phonecall routine stuff for any investigation?
Only a Corkman could believe another Corkman putting on a Northern accent.
