Was stopped tonight by cops for being on the phone. Have to produce licence, insurance and mot within 7 days. Only problem is my mots up last wk. Whats my chances if phone up and get a date for mot tomorrow morning and bring it into police and say it totally slipped my mind that it was up until checked my documents for bringing in.
Why would the police want to see your girlfriend ;) ;)
I saw this title of this threas minimised and it read, 'has anyone been caught w.....'
dirty mind perhaps! ;)
Oh for f**k sake i should have known better than to even ask anything sensible on here.

I would say you'll clock 3 points for the phone and a hefty fine for no mot. Tax etc can be argued away but driving without mot and/or insurance is gonna land you in a heap of trouble.
Yep im getting 3 points for driving using the phone he said, and £60 quid fine. Have insurance but no mot, though they could argue my insurance is invalid. Would have thought driving with no tax would be worse than driving with mot up a few days
Same typical non funny shyte i should expect from you hardstation

sorry :-\
Probably is, though what im saying is if i book a test first thing tmrw and bring me insurance, licence and mot cert thats out of date 24th may and tell them have a new date and honestly didnt realise it was up have i any chance of gettin away with it
There's a big waiting list for MOT tyrone girl. You won't get it for next week I'm afraid.
Cookstowns not too bad. Besides its a date for the mot im after to show i have it booked. If its 3 wks away so be it. Im already being done for talking on the phone, not trying to get out of it. Was simply asking about my chances of claiming not realising my mot was up was a guenune mistake. Hate people getting on their high horse cos i didnt have mot , im hardly the first or last person to be caught at it.
I suppose if you get an appointment, you could be ok. Depends if you show them the letter and it will have this week's date as to when you made the enquiry.
I'm sunburned and tired, so I'm not too sure if that made any sense :D However I'll ask a few people tomorrow and see what I can find out for you.
Ahh cheers zig, yeh they will see that i only made the appointment tmrw but i will have to say to them that i didnt realise it was out of date until i got home and was gathering my documents to take into police station and that as soon as realised it was up i booked a date. If i have a date booked to show them its better than having nothing.
Put some aloe vera on ur sunburn

I suppose they could take your word for it. Depends on what humour the officer is in. No aloe vera, will have to get myself some tomorrow. Anyway I'm off to bed. Night.

You should have known better to MOT your car, they send you letters out you know...
I got caught speeding and having no plates up when I was an 'R' driver. Got away with a caution.
I MOT'd my car last week. Got a date within seven days.
Its amazing what some police will turn a blind eye to while others will try and do you for the smallest thing.
You may try heels, skirt and low cut top as I reckon they'll throw the book at you.

Exactly what I was going to post :D
Having no valid MOT certificate invalidates your insurance also. At the very least six points, possibly a ban also.
You should have waited until you got home to check his text messages.
It really annoys me seeing people on phones while driving..
Good enough for you that you got caught I say.....
Tyrone girl get a date booked as soon as this will mean your insurance is valid, do it online to see what the closet date is you can get from any test center then ring them up and see is there any cancellations going tell the cops it was the colest date you could get and you should be alright.
The MOT is an easy one to foget to be honest. One year, I was taxing my car and gathering everything together, and only then I realised my MOT was out of date by two months. The thing on the windie makes it easier now to remember.
Actually why did not have your MOT disc on the windie?
Also... and I don't mean to be patronising... don't drive your car to the station with your documents. The fact that you've MOT booked doesn't give you the right to drive your car. Only when she's passed the test is she good to go again.

Good shout Norf. I'd say you might get away with it Tyrone Girl. Just depends really on the mood of the cop you're talking to. If you're upfront and honest and admit your mistake and have put arrangements in place to rectify it, hopefully they'll be willing to give ya the benefit of the doubt.

i'm sorry to tell you missie but you'll not get away with that, they will check the date you were stopped and they will clearly see your car was not MOT'd. i think 3pts and prob about £100-£150 fine would be the norm...Oh and pay a few pounds to keep it out of the local paper as your name will be in it and then we'll all know who you are ;)

The do send a letter and its about a month in advance of when your mot is up.
You have a weeks grace from when you Mot has expired as long as you have a test booked.
They didnt send me out a letter, cos i knew mine was up and happened to mention to me mother on thursday last about why i didnt get a letter she said no i never noticed one come in for you and i said then i must book it next week. So why wouldnt i have got a letter? Would this help my case? I have to agree mobiles are dangerous when driving. A few years ago someone rang me on my mobile when I was driving, it was a straight bit of road and I looked down for a second to see where the noise was coming from but the car in front of me indicated to go right just at the moment, I looked down at my phone then up again and saw the car in front stopped and indicating. I slammed on the breaks hard but still hit the car in front only not as hard as I might have, her bumper was 1/2 off and the boot was a bit damaged, there was a mother driving and a wee girl in the back seat with lots of crying and all that and a few months later the obligitory claim for whiplash but if I had looked up and put the breaks on 1/4 of a second later I would have been stopping another 10-20 yards up the road and it would have been a lot worse. Since that it has made me think twice before looking down to find a ringing phone when driving.

I do plenty of things I shouldn't,talking on the phone while driving isn't one of them though
Ring up the number on your HORT for the ticket office and ask for extra time to produce your documents - they'll give you a month if you say your licence is broken in half or lost. It'll buy you a bit of time to get your MOT certificate and it might look a bit better for you when you are able to go to the station and produce all your dcouments.

What's the story of driving without tax ?
Yesterday my mate was out driving and passed a car tax camera and seeing as he only posted his tax forms/fee the evening before I'm assuming he could be in trouble.
His car is just back on the road and passed the MOT the week before.
He could be in bother alright, though in saying that they will tax him from start of June when they receive his forms so im really not sure. he could say he just didnt have his tax disc up as they will have him as drivin on 4th June with no tax and he will have the tax disc shortly showing him being taxed on that date so he may slip through ok. If they write to him tell him to write a letter back

Lot of time it depends on when ur case is called. Lots of time they leave before all cases are heard, usually when they have enough. Well so i been told. Hmm havnt told me mother yet she will have me murdered when she reads about me in round the courts in the courier :o
Much as it goes against everything I believe in to help a Tyronie......

Was in a similar situation a couple of years ago (minus talking on the phone though) stopped by the peelers and asked to bring my licence, insurance and mot into the station within a few days, realised when i got home that the car was no longer MOTed, got straight onto the DVLNI and aked for the first cancellation anywhere in NI, got one the next day :)
Produced the insurance, licence and brand new MOT, they gave it some looking up and down but let it go ;D
I thought i'd read somewhere though that driving without an MOT does almost certainly not invalidate your insurance.
Went to police station Saturday evening with me licence insurance and brought the old mot cert and new date and told them the craic that it slipped my mind. She was fine, said if it was her personally she would let it go but she said its up to the cop who stopped me. So she emailed him through and explained it was only 5 days out of date and asked him to ring me. So fingers crossed

What will happen is one of two things either a if it was out of tax for a short time then he will get a letter telling him that his tax was out of date and fine of a fixed amount per month in arrears between when the tax expired and when he renewed it. If he pays that, it will effectively be the end of the matter although he may still get a threatening court letter and have to appear in court in order to have the case dismissed. Alternatively if he had filed a SORN then they may get arsey about it and he could be prosecuted for a fine of up to £1000 or 5 times the annual tax for the vehicle which ever is highest. A lot will depend on the facts of the case.

Handy. Was it not listed for this morning though? Usually I thought they just listed everything in the morning and just worked through it from there, contested matters last. Is your solicitor / barrister just waiting until the afternoon before dealing with it?
They go through the list but things can be passed over and dealt with later in the afternoon, they dont do it all the time but certain cases solicitors will let pass over til the end.

If the magistrate catches on to the reason things are being passed over, they might soon put a stop to it!
you seem to have the entire judicial system/press under your thumb there tyrone girl....but bearing in mind you thought you'd got off with the whole thing initially, i predict a jail-term and front page coverage

Aw yeah passing over is common for loads and loads of reasons. Only saying that if the magistrate realises that people are passing cases just to keep them out of the paper they mightn't be too happy, particularly if everybody starts doing it.
