thats Peter Harte some jump
Is that not Niall McKenna Tyronefan? Eugenes son?
EDIT - it is, if you look in the second picture, Peter Harte (#6) is on the ground, to the left of the action.
Thats actually kinda funny - 6, 5, and Tyrones 12, all look like their stepping into a dance there.
Yeah I thought it was young McKenna alright, besides his ability to climb into the clouds he is a fine footballer as well, I'd imagine he'll be on the Tyrone U21 panel this year.
your right Puck I just looked at the first photo
thanks Hardstation :P
surprised he hasn't his pick of aussie rules clubs, they'll go mad looking for him based on that.
Thats a ridiculous jump,
Never seen anything like that in GAA,
Nicholas Walsh from Cavan has a great vertical,But this guy is on a different level.
Augher's a great place for the corned beef. My sister did a thesis in university on the positive effects of corned beef. Apparently, and I'm quoting directly, 'eating a tin of corned beef every day is akin to adding another thread to the springs on your heel. The Maoris have a sub-clan who live on corned beef and can jump a height equivalent to the average English cottage.'
I'm surprised Mickey Harte or Pillar Caffrey never looked into this in depth. If anyone wants a copy of the thesis or any more info on this PM me.

I'd say he is 4 foot minimum off the ground there. What would the average player be capable of I wonder?

Nicholas Murphy and Darragh O Se, big men both fit to jump, but neither able to launch both feet off the ground and get as high as this young man.
hed make some basketball player.
Ger Cavlan v Antrim 2003. Casement Park. He was jumping higher than Black Mountain.
That photo is breath taking!
reminds me of the famous image of sean walsh and brian mullins leaping in their heyday!!
can't find the image please post it up lads!
Considering the genes it comes as no surprise that Niall can leap like a salmon. I remember watching his father Eugene play for Tyrone during the seventies and eighties and he had the uncanny ability to hang in the air. The apple did not fall far from the tree in this case. He leaps and catches like his father and has the same running style as him. If he fills out like his old man he will be a real gem in years to come.
O Neil re:: the Cavlan jump? did he "piggy back" the antrim player as in placing his knees on the antrim lads shoulders?
i think i remember the catch you're talking about,You're right he got serious height on that jump.
Still not as impressive as young McKenna though, havent see anything like it.
Good and all as a jump it is the mayo lad would have outjumped him if he wasn't been pulled down!!

There could well be a poster on this board who has the stud marks from Cavlan's jumping 'tactics' that day!

Augher's a great place for the corned beef.
Its more likely to be the c'berg in dessies.
How did you get the picture to show here O'Neill, I tried to do that but couldn't so Ii just posted the links?
Right click on the picture and copy the image properties.
Yeah tried that but it didn't work, if I click 'copy image' it doesn't give me a 'paste' option when I go back here.
Click 'Copy Image Location' or its equivalent.
Did that too but only the address came up when I posted it, not the picture itself, i really only want to know for future reference and I just thought there was a little nack to it that i didn't know, could it be my computer?
There's a picture of Cavlan fielding a ball for Tyrone - not sure who against - in the front bar in McAleers in Dungannon. He's at least 4 feet off the ground.Worth a look if you're ever in. Despite what has went on with Cavlan this past few years, at his best he was a joy to watch
Absolutly Laceer... and how he never got an All Star is a mystery. Was nominated in 1996 yaer Meath literaly hammered them and he threw over some beautiful points that day. Cavlan was a natural ..so gifted and as you say a joy to watch.
96 was his first year starting for the seniors i think as well. He scored 12 from play against us in the club championship a few years ago-if he plays for the Clarkes this year he'll be hard to stop in div 3
I think we're agreed on this one Laceers. He was a sub in 1995 final. To me Cavlan was most natuarlly gifted player in Tyrone since Frank McGuigan.
If Niall has as good a career as father Eugene, Donaghmore and Tyrone will be well pleased. Niall's a great prospect.

Must be a high ceiling in that place.
Eugene was Augher and Tyrone. Him and six other brothers played in minor Ulster finals for Tyrone. Some record. Raymond, Dessie, Willie, Eugene, Brendan, Mickey (I think) not sure of other name.

Eugene was Augher and Tyrone.
The folklore that I have heard, Dessie was actually a much better footballer but got injured and didnt play for the county again.

That is some fetch, reminds us all that we have some of the best natural athletes in world playing our games.
Is the record for the highest catch in Croker still an Armagh man(Campbell /McCorry??) in the 1953 final v Kerry?
Always thought this was a great picture. Looks better if you can see the grass in the picture though.

Maggie that is a myth Dessie McKenna was good alright and played a lot of games with Tyrone but not true to say better than eugene. No way-Eugene was a fantastic footballer and didn't in three All Stars for nothing when Tyrone wernt hitting All Ireland finals every other year.
This is a rare photo of the bold Willie Joe with his feet on terra firma
Teddy McCarthy of Cork could go up some height too for size 5 or sliotar...was like a step ladder.
