Spurs are about to lose Vertonghen, Alderweireld & Eriksen for free this summer and Spurs could never attract top players because they refuse to pay the wages required. Look at those figures below from 2017/18's wage bills. Spurs were miles off competing financially with the other so called top 6 clubs.

Vertonghen,Alderweireld both in their 30s are probably past their best and Spurs recently paid 42 million for ex Ajax defender Sanchez.  Eriksen might rediscover his good form and stay for a while longer.  Good recruitment,scouting and selection process are key to any club when dealing with transfers and its something that United haven't had in recent years. The wage structure that was at United has spiraled out of control since Woodward took over and have ended up with the likes of Di Maria,Sanchez only joining for the wrong reasons (money) while never proving their worth on the field.
