Quote from: Milltown Row2 on Today at 12:35:42 PMJust the three ;)

You's boys are touchy feckers all the same

I think Liverpool had a fantastic year and will miss big Klopp's drive

Utd can't keep 'clearing' out players every year and expect consistency

They are the media's plaything at the minute after having years of dominance they are languishing below levels they would have been at before, its as if they have forgotten Utd were relegated in the 70's, but of course football only started in the PL years 92 ;)

No quick fix, could be another 10 years at this rate, I'd be happy to have the roof fixed first

Doesn't help that many of clubs ex players are now pundits, so the focus always gets shifted back to them regardless of the storyline at the time.

There is a clear out required and a bit of reset with some control but again that isn't a one window kind of fix.

Ours is easy, Rossa by some margin.

We're dire at the minute.

Anything coming through JC?

We do have a smattering of good underage hurlers coming through but its too early to tell, but any young lads thrown into that team will struggle, no real leadership in there and too many of the more seasoned lads passing the buck and may well be told to fĂșck off next year when we're in Div2 and start afresh.

Some of them seem to think you don't need to tackle in hurling anymore, but sure I'm an old cĂșnt who knows nothing.

Plenty of them about  ;D

Quote from: AustinPowers on May 15, 2024, 06:24:20 PMI don't think Southgate is  any big shakes , but he'd be better than ETH. You might see somewhat  safety first style football,  but he has better  knowledge of the PL than ETH did (as that clearly shows ), and I reckon he'd  steady the ship  and tighten things up at least.

I'm not  clued into the European leagues so I don't know  who else  would be a  good fit at united ( other than Ancelotti, perhaps),  but as we've seen, continental managers  to the PL are much riskier as  the game in Spain/Italy is  different. So in that respect, Southgate would  probably be the best of a mediocre bunch of  british-style managers ,   at this stage

Is that true? 14 of the 20 PL managers are foreign, 13 of them European.

What less risky English appointments have there been? Potter?

Could never understand that move by Potter, moving from one of the most stable structures in the premier league to one of the biggest basket cases. Don't think it made him a bad manager but it has definitely hurt him, he will need his next job to be a success to get back to that level.

ETH got a good reception from the OT fans last night after the game, don't think there is any real desire to oust him. That may change after the Cup Final or maybe it is just an acceptance of the situation the squad are in at the moment.

Varanne seemed genuinely sad to be leaving, Martial on the other hand looked like he couldnt get off the pitch quick enough.

Take it for what it is, an end of season open game that United came out on the right side of for once.

I've said it before on here, I think they need a season out of Europe completely, but one sure thing is, that they don't need to be competing in the conference league.

If by some miracle they happen to win the cup they at least they would get into the Europa which probably would help with PSR and player transfers. But that Thursday Sunday schedule is a joke over the season.

Quote from: Ghost+Tommy on May 14, 2024, 01:16:54 PMI think it's the guy O Callaghan who has all saints playing the way they are, plus the older players in the squad seem to have a big say behind the scenes regarding the set up,not to many listen to what the Baker shouts which is mostly abuse
Are they allegedly playing well? I saw them tonight, fist passing the ball to eachother along the midfield line back and forward, barely ever kicking the ball and conceding every single kickout. If this is playing well I give up.

If that's the criteria you have basically described every football team in the county/ country.

Quote from: JPGJOHNNYG on May 15, 2024, 01:02:41 PMffs please not Southgate, he has wasted England best chance to win something over the last few tournaments. The English seem blinded to his incompetence. He speaks well to the media and is a likeable guy but is tactically brain dead

The latest I've seen is Thomas Frank being linked. Interesting one, has the EPL experience and seems to be able to set a team up.

That being said I'm not sure they will move on ETH simply due to the lack of quality options out there at the moment.

Is that the big lad who bust his own head open head butting the wee lad who didn't flinch?

Wasn't sure what was going on there!

He looks like he's been on the marching powder from what I saw of the incident.

Quote from: Rufus T Firefly on May 14, 2024, 12:34:15 PMI think the issue was that the subject matter has the potential to be quite emotive - the conflict between needing to raise revenue and at the same time trying to ensure that the product is available to as large an audience as possible.

I thought Cavanagh's approach played on that emotion - the inference of the cold, cash hungry GAA denying many the right to see our games, in their pursuit of money.

It could not go unchallenged and the response was an extremely powerful put down.

This is absolutely the crux of it and what he was implying.

While making a buck out of it himself, does he not see the hypocrisy in his own position.

Any anyone from Tyrone raising the issue of brown envelopes has an absolute cheek with the number of their clubs even down the divisions engaging in it. As well as the number of Tyrone coaches all over the country happily taking these payments.

Burns was 100% right to slap this down.

Quote from: gallsman on May 14, 2024, 12:17:06 PMThe big deal is that he was wrong, and Burns corrected him. Emphatically.

Seems a few moany Tyronies are a bit touchy about Saint Sean being called out on his nonsense.

He was caught out spouting BS and has now doubled down on it.
Burns perfectly right to slap him down.

Really strange misstep for someone working in the financial industry.

Quote from: JonnyD_ on May 13, 2024, 10:57:24 AMi keep coming back to the players - the current crop! we definitely have something with the players. getting them all out with a full pre-season behind them and injury free and can beat the best.

It's serious commitment, 3 nights a week, your own S&C on your days off, game at the weekend or away for the weekend, no breaks in the year, still doing your bit with club when you can and its not as good as it sounds.

I'm not surprised that there are drop outs, or breaks in training and no surprises that they have injuries, some toll on the body, but we lack quality depth which when you look at some of the games lately the lads coming on to some county teams as subs have some impact.

Whether we can beat the best is debatable, certainly in one off league games or Championship games at Corrigan we can be competitive but being consistent needs crops of players coming through every year, otherwise, which has been happening for a few years, we burn out that squad, they all retire around the same time and we play the Christy Ring for a year or two!

I'd say closer to 5 nights in reality, which when you think of it is crazy.
