Anyone carry a torch?
Penlights very useful
only if away hiking  - carry a few extra things when away from the car or the house for an extended period of time. Have a north face back pack and I'd have a torch in there a small hatchet, first aid kit and some food and water.

A big stick. (I speak softly.)

Iceman - can you give me details of the wallet? I hate a bulky wallet but can't seem to find a slim one.

https://www.ridgewallet.com/
You'll find similar ones on Amazon at cheaper prices. Fits easily in to front pocket, hold the cards you need and notes slide under the clip. I haven't carried coins since my teens they always went in to a jar in the kitchen for my Ma

I worked in an off license and bars in my teens and always got used to carrying a bottle opener (corkscrew, beer bottle opener and small blade). In my later teens I always had a swiss army knife. I grew up in the countryside and was always footering at wee projects here and there and loved the versatility of the tool. I've progressed to a Leatherman and absolutely love it. When I was a younger man and hunted and kept dogs I always had bailer twine in my coats! You never knew when a loose dog needed caught (or so went the thinking!)
I don't wear a watch. If we were going out hiking I would bring a small backpack with a first aid kit and we have a first aid kit in the cars.
I have a small rigid wallet that only holds 10 cards and has a money clip. I got it because I was tired of a bulky wallet and this one is also RFID blocking.

Interested to see what others carry most of the time and why?

went for my citizenship test yesterday....talking to the officer there she said the swear in 100 citizens a week and approximately 5,000 a year. That's one small city in Florida. I read up on it and there's between 700,000 and 1million people on average added every year across the country.

oJ, literally because of mathematics.

If you're going to try to use statistics to support some half assed racist little pea brained theory,, be a good little boy and look up the word in a dictionary.

Stop embarrassing yourself.

And just because you don't believe scientists or experts doesn't make maths incorrect, it makes you incorrect.

Tony Baloney and Ice, maybe some statistics refreshers for the pair of you too
man you're getting hung up on the statistics and missing the point....

do you see no trend in these gangs? honestly?

How should the approaching caravan of 10/15k from Central America be dealt with ? Any thoughts

Let the CBP do their job. Process the asylum claims.

(Unless they're approaching like a battalion of marines, as Trump would have his supporters believe).
how do you process a group that large?
how do you house them in the meantime? where?
I think no matter how this is dealt with the administration will look bad. There's no easy or entirely adequate way to handle this based on the sheer volume of people and the resulting cost and strain on resources.... its a lose:lose situation

I'd say the numbers are closer to 5K than 10K.
It's unreal the expectations other people have one america. If 1000 people landed into the docks at cork tomorrow demanding entry, the country would have a fit. At least if they weren't part of the popular minorities maybe....

There's nothing America can do. How do you stop them. It's the perfect storm at mid-term. You cna't shoot them, you cna't hurt or injure them. You can stop them, round them up, but where? And how do you detain them in perfect conditions that won't cause outcry? If you let them lose on the streets what do you think will happen - mayhem.... what a world we live in now where people are unwittingly being used as political bait on all sides

No no no no no. That's not how it works. You made the claim that Pakistani men "appear to be the perpetrators" of these crimes 80% of the time. Either back it up or kindly f**k off.
He might have been wrong on his exact numbers but I think he has highlighted the grooming gangs backgrounds are similar enough to deserve a second look.
I don't know why you claim to be so anti-racist but then so hostile towards anyone who raises a point you don't agree with?

There's a problem in England in certain towns (as highlighted in the above posts) where groups of muslim men are systematically grooming young girls, raping them and hooking them to class 1 drugs. The media isn't commenting on the fact that the majority of these gangs (again we are not talking about individuals committing crimes here, this was about a gang) are made up of predominantly, if not entirely, muslim men.  Some of us are asking the question why. Why can't we call them out as muslim? Why are people like you so hell bent on defending the perpetrators and not the victims? Why can't we attach their culture and their background and their ideology to the cases? What if their culture and their ideology encourages the behaviour?

looked to be a great game of football from the highlights....
I know you can't tell much from one game, so to those who have seen Jack Grugan and that young lad McConville throughout the campaign - whats the thoughts on them? Is Jack county standard now? McConville future prospect?

I close friend of mine had a 30 years battle with the booze, like myself. He married late in life (mid 40's) but was still on the sauce very heavily. He had 2 kids in quick succession but never stopped him. It wasn't till the wife tossed him out and he was sleeping rough for a while that he got stopped.

That's about 5 years ago, he is back living at home. Relationship is going from strength to strength and he is a great father. Also he never looked better. And I have to admit I am very proud of him and jealous also.

But I get really angry when down the local and his name comes up. His so called mates are he's a bollacks, what did he ever really drink, its all the wife's problem she knew what she married, why not let him have a couple of pints.

I had many a good session with him, I do missed the odd day on the lash with him but am glad he is where he is in his life and hopes that comes to me someday.

I am an alcoholic but unfortunately I feel it is misunderstood by so many. I have attended AA meetings where people talk about there illness. This term for alcoholism doesn't not sit easy with me, I have seen illness in my father for 7 years which ended up killing him a man who never drank or smoked in his life. But also being told its a selfishness or a lack of will power is my problem also angers me. I know the decision to drink in my case is selfish, I would count myself intelligent man but logic and intelligence goes out the window when drink is involved.

I posted last week about aiming for 100 days on Wednesday, I did it. Not posting here looking any pats on the back or well done but to tell how my heads works and maybe someone with a close family member who is struggling can take something from it to help them.

Wednesday I got through no issue, never crossed my mind to drink. Sister messaged me that night to say well done and that was all the thought I had about it. Thursday morning woke went to the gym at 6am feeling great. Headed to work and have to walk past one of them shit holes that is Weatherspoons about 7.15. The drink delivery lorry was loading out.

Logic went out the window and all that entered my head was if I go for a Fry by the time I eat it will be 8am and weatherspoons will be serving. My head was telling me look you've done the 100 days, proved all the feckers wrong who said I couldn't do it so I have no need to do 101 days. All day yesterday I had to battle the urge and I was close to the wire a few time but I got there, today I have no interest in drink. That kind of messed up thinking is very hard to explain to other people. But if I had went yesterday that would have been me till at least start of November.
Good work there. I think you definitely can't hide from this so facing a challenge like you did on Thursday will only make you stronger.
It's a real illness. I posted earlier in the thread my cousin died of it at 35. His body just couldn't take any more abuse. Some people can drink and smoke heavily until they're 90 because they're just made that way - its genetics. Others cannot.  None of us should.
Keep going to the gym. Keep going to your AA meetings. Get out in nature as much as possible. Look up an event they're running in Armagh - Reignite your ultimate power. You'll find great strength in the people and learn a lot of things to help you move on... good luck - keep us posted on your journey!
