Hi

Working on a project for college and I'm looking for attendance figures for intercounty GAA league & championship matches for the last 3 years - anyone know where I'd be able to find this information? I've emailed the GAA using the contact form on the website but still waiting to hear back from them.

Also, I'm looking for stadium capacities and I found these but at least some of them don't look right (and indeed the two pages don't agree in some cases)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Gaelic_Athletic_Association_stadiums

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_stadiums_in_Ireland_by_capacity

I've emailed each of CBs but if anyone has any corrections on those capacities, that'd be great

Here's the capacity data:

County   Capacity
Antrim   32500
Armagh   16500
Carlow   21000
Cavan   32000
Clare   14864

Athletic grounds in Armagh has closer to 19,500 I think

Maguire01

Cavan looks very high to me.

macdanger2

Actually, I've got the attendances from the annual reports.

armaghniac

Cavan is one of the biggest grounds, but I would be very surprised if Derry is well ahead in capacity of Omagh, Newry, Armagh.

I think Armagh is between 16500 and 19500.

Many of these places had had their licensed capacity reduced somewhat.
If at first you don't succeed, then goto Plan B

Athletic Grounds was definitely 19,500 when opened (inc. stand).

Throw ball

Was in Ennis a couple of weeks ago. If the Athletic Grounds only holds 16,500 I would not want to be in Ennis when nearly 15,000 there. Would think 10,000 would be closer to the mark.

I believe the Athletic Grounds can hold 19,500 but health and safety reduces this by a couple of thousand for all ticket matches - do not get the logic with that though!

I remember watching the Munster u21 hurling final in Ennis last year - close to 14 or 15K at it if my memory serves me right!

Bord na Mona man

The trend is for a lot of capacities to be revised downwards once safety inspections are carried out. It would be interesting to see which ones are certified and which are notional.

The capacity was restricted to 11000 before the redevelopment work. It was reported that with the new stand and other redevelopment works the capacity would be raised to between 18-20,000, can't seem to find anything official on it. Although derry post report a capacity of 22,000

The game against Donegal last year was as big a crowd as I've seen in Celtic  Park since the down game in 1994. Reported attendence from the donegal game was about 16,000 IIRC, that was fairly close to capacity I would say. So the 18,000 figure mentioned previously is probably about right

The redevelopment work was designed to raise capacity in Celtic Park from 17,000 to 23,402.

Doesn't sound right to me. If that was the case then there would have been room for nearly half as many people again who attended the donegal game? Absolutely no chance. Unless the ulster council were cooking the books
