Trans men are not allowed into female changing rooms until"
they have « transitioned ."
Whitey hasn't had any surgery yet  as far as I know so she wouldn't be allowed in .
You sure about that? I assumed he'd had a lobotomy.

Hmm, 538 now forecast Dems to pick 38 seats in the House and Republicans to pick up two Senate seats (in a historically bad Senate map for Dems). Really hard to believe that when they were defending Manchin, McCaskill, Heitkamp, Donnelly, Tester, that they would lose only three of them and pick up two elsewhere.

The Blue wave took a long time to materialise, but boy when it did....

Shellacking territory for Trump.

It's amazing though, since the election we've had the Sessions/Whittaker shenanigans, his pathetic performance in France, his appalling comments on the California wildfires, and now The NY Times is reporting that all may not be as Trump advertised on North Korea.

I'm sure I've left out something ( oh yeah, his petulant response to Michelle Obama and the Jim Acosta stuff).

That's in the space of a few days...

I'd say a lot of that behaviour is driven by the realisation that the Dems are now a force to be reckoned with. Apparently now Whittaker is meeting with DOJ ethics officials to discuss possible areas of recusal. This is ridiculous stuff. I don't know what is scarier - the fact that Donald Trump can't even do authoritarianism right, or the possibility that the Republicans might put up someone with the same prejudice and disdain for democracy, except 20 times smarter, come 2020.

J70- what's the word on the ground in Queens about the new Amazon HQ?

I see the New Democratic Socialist congresswoman is out with the burning pitchforks already.

Can say I blame her......from my vantage point it probably won't too too much for her constituents (apart from drive them out/drive up their rent)

If Trump could just be contained in the virtual world like social media he might be credible. But his character lets him down in the real world all the time.

Mixed, with an awful lot opposed.

Long Island City has already been undergoing massive gentrification and de-industrialization with thousands of expensive, high-rise apartments being added in the past five years and still ongoing. Personally it has suited me, because I live less than ten minutes drive away and there are nice new restaurants and lovely parks along the waterfront. But, it is putting real pressure on the subway system, especially as they are still doing post-Sandy repairs as well as trying to bring a 1900s-level signal system into the modern era. Then you have the 59th Street Bridge and the midtown tunnel right there too (the bridge is the only non-tolled Manhattan crossing in Queens). Bringing another 25k jobs into a fairly small area will obviously have an impact on top of that. They're also talking about building over the massive Sunnyside rail yards which are very close to the same area, which could bring thousands more apartments as well as additional commercial development. To service all this, the city will have to build new schools and parks, as well as adding transit capacity.

From what I've heard, Amazon will begin with a couple thousand workers, perhaps occupying somewhere like the Citibank building which currently has a lot of space. The 25k would be reached within ten years.

Stealing from a friend:

The only coherent policies of the GOP are the acquisition of power and punishing the disadvantaged.

In November, Wisconsin voters rejected Governor Scott Walker and his policies (Dems won every state-wide race). District gerrymanders though made sure that even though Ds received 54% of the votes, Rs hold 63% of the seats.

On Friday the Wisconsin Republicans launched a plan to strip powers from the newly elected Democratic governor and attorney general before they take office, lock in their gerrymander, lock in work requirements for Medicaid that are used to kick people off the rolls, cut early voting, and improve their chances in a state Supreme Court race by ordering three statewide elections in three months (NO county clerk has come out in favor of this plan, and 83% of them outright oppose it). The legislature will vote on Tuesday.

This is similar to what the NC leg tried to pull after Democratic gains in 2016. Draw the map to ensure you control the leg, strip powers from the executive, and rig the judiciary with judges to approve both moves.

Meanwhile Paul Ryan is complaining about votes being legally counted in California as some kind of affront to democracy.

The band of thugs that have been crowing "elections have consequences" since 2010 have no compunction about utilizing antidemocratic measures to ensure that their will supersedes that of the voters, because really they have nothing but contempt for them.

Except for the lone black GOP Senator, Tim Scott, we'd have had two federal judges appointed this year with a racist history of trying to disenfranchise black people.

In this f**king day and age...

Donnie has nominated Heather Nauert as UN Ambassador, the same Heather Nauert who earlier this year cited the D-Day landings as an example of the long standing relationship between America and Germany.

FAKE NEWS - THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!

@joshuamckerrow

1. Today I did the annual story on holiday decorations at the Governor's residence. I've done it every year, for years. A very light but very fun story. Every year my reporting partner was Wendi Winters. This year, it was Selene. Wendi was murdered in June.

2. Selene did a great job, of course. And I really thought I could hold it together. I moved through the rooms with my tripod, focusing on the trees and ornaments. All I could think about was Wendi. I felt like she was with me, that she was actually present.

3. Not in a "ghost" sense, I hope she has moved on to a better world then Capital feature stories : ) But she was there in my mind. I could almost hear her voice echoing through the empty rooms. "How many cookies are you making this year?", her favorite question..

4. I was ok til the very end. Interviewed the butler, like I have every year, and when we were done she took me aside and whispered, "I really miss Wendi. Next year I'm going to name a cookie for her."

5. And that was it. The tears started, and I'm standing in the Maryland Governors home weeping to myself about my dead friend. She died in The Capital newsroom on June 28th, shot by a man who wanted to kill every journalist he could.

6. We don't know what set him off yet. After years of silence. What finally pushed him far enough that he loaded his shotgun, drove the 40 minutes from Laurel, parked his car, walked through the busy lobby, barricaded our back exit, blasted the simple fragile glass door.

7. Five people died, Rebecca, Wendi, Gerald, Rob, John. I always type their names in the order I think they were killed. I think, Rebecca first, at the door. Wendi charged him. Gerald and Rob were trapped in their cubicle. John, trying to get out the blocked exit.

8. Wendi was no ones enemy

9. Every year Wendi made us all Oreo holiday cookies. except for the one year she made us jarred pesto. The question came up yesterday in the newsroom, who is going to make the cookies this year? Selene spoke up, I will.

10. I don't have a wrap-up to this story. I cried on and off all day. I miss her very much. I'm comforted that in a way she's still with me, when I do the work that she loved to do. Journalism. Patriotic, truth telling, American. We'll keep on doing the work.

11. And if we die for it, someone else will pick up the threads, and report on the holiday decorations at the Governor's house. Its what we do. -

In the moments before she was shot dead at the Capital Gazette on June 28, reporter Wendi Winters - a 65 year old mother of four - stood up from her desk and charged at the rampaging gunman, brandishing a trash can and a recycling bin.

She shouldn't have had to be a hero...
