Quote from: Milltown Row2 on January 18, 2024, 10:37:16 AMThere are a few things different from back in the day..

Pitches are harder
Shoes are different
Training in the gym
Kids are made of paper
Every injury now requires surgery!!
Players know about, hamstrings and metatarsals and ligaments (was a sore leg in my day)

Players are bigger
Diet plans

Few other factors as to why we have these injuries I'm sure..

The enjoyment I'm sure is still there but, seems like hard work in comparison to the, hill runs during the week preseasons and the drills with the ball at the weekend

Aye exactly this.  I find the young guys coming from our minor team to the senior team are all specialists in complicated injuries and are getting told they need surgery etc.

There are no more "sore legs" its all hamstring tendinopathy this and osteitis pubis that.

I think parents have a lot of input here putting it in their heads they are 'injured', rather than just sore.

Correct, a lot of it is 'I've this injury and that injury' during the season. I can't train because of 'this and that'.

Funny thing is how all these wee niggles seem to clear up 2 weeks out from the championship and the physio is made reduntant!

That too. Like i said, theres a difference in genuinely picking up an injury and needing to "person" ;) up and play through that wee bit of pain everyone gets.

Not sure about anyone else but when I was 16/17/18 we would have trained twice a week with seniors, played senior game, minor game and trained once or twice with minors as well.

Doing that in both codes and county, left school at 16 so didn't have higher education sport to contend with..

Kids have it easy, only playing level they are in and playing generally one code!

Telling the manager you had an injury just didn't happen
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought. Ea

I think the gym is causing a lot of grief. Club lads are starting at minors and then go from there.

Some tool on Tiktok has a routine to shred or get gains and off they go.

Some lads are bulking upper body and their bodies can't hold it.

Now, that being said, there are lads who are NEVER not injured. And know all the jargon...

I can't understand why clubs have training so early either. Let the lads Winter and back in Spring.

them mysterons are always killing me but im grand after a few days.sickenin aul dose all the same.

If you're doing the right stuff in the gym i.e. gaa specific stuff and not just training like a body builder it'll help prevent injury. But yeah if you're just firing big weights about you'll find yourself not fit to move.

In fairness if your league is starting late March early April theres no point coming back at the start of March, you'll quickly find boys will rock up with 2 or 3 stone to lose, well thats my experience anyway.
