My vehicle does not have run flats, nor does it have a spare wheel nor a jack.

Therefore if I get a bad puncture, I would need to call the AA and forget about whatever destination which i was racing towards.

Are run-flats getting towards good value?

The greatest lie ever told was "run-flats" You'll be lucky to get 20 mile out of one. They're also noisy and leave the car ride unbearable. And when you get a flat it'll be at a time when the garage is closed so you'll not be able to get it fixed. The tyre will probably be worn to shit and you'll need a new one and then the garage won't have the size and at that point you'll consider going full Michael Douglas in Falling Down.

Did you not get a puncture kit? To save space and money, some manufacturers include some sort of sealant and expect you to seal the leak, pump up the tyre get yourself to the nearest repair centre.

I have a Honda CR-V 2014 which has the idle stop start using the clutch. ( hope someone knows what I am on about ). Anyway,  it stopped working and the problem was traced back to the battery which needed replaced. The mechanic said something along the lines of ...the stop start clutch thing has to learn the voltage before it begins to work with the new battery. In the meantime it is not working at junctions they way it did previously.
Anyone understand what I am on about and if so does it take a while before the new battery is able to operate the stop start clutch ???

It may need to be reset/calibrated using a computer with Honda diagnostic software. It is also vital that the mechanic fitted a battery with identical ratings as the previous.

The guy who fixed it specialises in motor electrics and he is aware of the stop start system. He didn't say that it needed to be reset so I'm hoping that it will sort itself out. He did say something about it having to learn the voltage or something.

Most battery companies will supply a stop start battery. It must be one of those or it won't last.

What type of vehicle/vehicle owner doesn't have a spare tyre or a jack?

One that buys a car with run flat tyres. Thousands of them on the road now and has been for the last 10+ years.

It isn't just me who sees a whole world of problems with this stop start nonsense in a few years time, worn out starters, batteries etc.....
I knock it off before i get to the first junction.

Unbelieveably some batteries actually have to be coded to the car, gone are the days when you could use a set of jump leads and swap batteries so you wouldn't have to input the stereo code that you invariably didn't have.
You can't live off history and tradition forever

An absolute nightmare tbh. BMW are the worst offenders along with Merc.

Any idea what I'd pay for a new timing belt & water pump for a 08 Vectra? It's probably due to be changed but not sure it's worth it for a car that age

Any rough price on a new key for a car in the Republic?  Three buttons for unlock, lock and unlock boot.  Got quoted €165 but wouldn't know if that is good or bad.

I imagine the brand might make a difference.

I spent £300 on a new key from BMW, but you can apparently buy blank keys and then have them programmed by independents.
