GAA Discussion / Re: Connacht final 2023

The game went as expected. We were totally outclassed, Defensively we were clueless, some dreadful individual mistakes. Thankfully Galway had some mercy on us taking 3 fisted points instead if going for goal (Tierney didn't get the memo unfortunately) and taking off some of their better players.  Will the next 3 games be any better - unlikely

What's the feeling amongst Sligo supporters, would they have preferred the option of playing tailteann again regardless of the result in this game?
That said, the Connacht losers have a group that has potentially winnable games in it!

The reality is we are nowhere near the level of Galway. We have played only Division 4 teams and New York and are in a Connacht final. Its a big step up to from that to play All Ireland contenders. We will require Galway to be complacent and indifferent similar to 2007 but this is a far superior Galway side.
Not a big fan of the Sligo manager and his aggressive, abrupt man management skills which has meant a number of players from my own club chose not to commit. I suppose we have been promoted so I season will be a success irrespective of what happens today and in the coming weeks. Hopefully the game plan and match ups are right and Sligo to be competitive. But it should be a comfortable victory for Galway.
This weekend has been a success already after yesterday's heroic performance from the u20.

Great evening spent in Tuam yesterday. First time I think witnessing a Sligo victory at the venue.
Sligo have a great bunch of footballers there. A lot of things went against them , the harsh free where defender didn't realise a mark was given to Sligo. The 45 after the keeper save looked as if it didn't go out of play resulted in 2 points. The spirit to come back from 2 down at the end showed the charachter of these lads especially considering Galway should have been the fresher team. Subs made a big difference also.  Overall a brilliant occasional role on the All Ireland semi final

Donlon is out for Sligo. Big loss

Mayo saving Sam Callinan for the championship clash next week. Msy be a bit of complacency in the Mayo ranks not selecting their best corner back.

From a Sligo viewpoint I can only see a comfortable Cavan victory. We have been unable to beat London and Leitrim in normal time on the way to the semi final. A much superior team like Cavan should beat us comfortably. Having said that if Niall Murphy returns it should improve the conversion rate percentage which has been a big issue the last 2 games. However there are too many other issues around the field. The experiment of playing without a recognised midfielder despite having about 7/8 on the panel is baffling. Cavan should dominate in this area. Cavan by 7+

A lot of players in their mid 20s no longer playing for Sligo Cian Breheny, Kevin McDonnell, Kyle Cawley, Liam Gaughan to name but a few are they injured or no longer committing to the county scene?
McDonnell was forced to retire with a hip injury about 2 years ago. Kyle Cawley has given up football - doesn't even play for his club any more.
Liam Gaughan will be back when McEntee steps down which hopefully will be at the end of this year. Others hopefully will return also under new management.

This referee Jerome Henry is not fit to referee at this level or any level. It's not the first time he has given biased decisions at Connaught level. Its time he was taken off the referee list.

Tourlestrane really left that one behind them. At that level you have to be converting your goal chances. Knockmore are a good side and made us pay for those missed opportunities

Horan has to take a lot of the responsibility for that Mayo performance on Saturday. Firstly a manager needs to change your the tactics somewhat throw in a curveball to keep opposition guessing but it was the same high press which was totally ineffective leaving the defence exposed and man on man with, the Tyrone forwards. Tyrone exploited this with long kickouts and long passes into full forward line. The 2 goals came from this tactic as well as the goal chance in first half. A huge part of preparation for a game nowadays is analysis of opposition- if you use same tactics every game the opposition will come up with a plan to take advantage of it. Horan is very rigid in his tactics and it is not helping the team.

Anyone notice Mcdonald was not on the sideline for the second half. He was up with the subs in the stand. Was there a disagreement between Mcdonald and Horan during the game.

Another disappointing result for Sligo. Considering that 10 panel members came out of Covid enforced isolation on Monday they battled well to the end and made the scoreline look more respectable.

Johnny Kenny of Shamrock Gaels and Sligo.

Seriously a fella who hardly played for the county, who chose soccer over GAA.  ::)

Niall Murphy - Sligo. Another to opt out. He played on the International Rules team in 2017.
Adrian McIntyre gone from Sligo panel also. Sligo 2 best players of recent years not returning for 2020. No early return to division 3

Such a tonic to hear that super p.... O Hara so upset after the club semi-final, ranted for 10 minutes on Ocean fm, trowing a wobbly after a 10 point defeat and after your forwards manage just one point of your 6 point total is fairly tipical O Hara.
He even referred to Roscommon as one of the big counties ;D.
Well I have news for you Eamon, Sligo has a bigger population than Ros but only half the guts.

A lot of factual inaccuracies, spelling mistakes, grammatical errors but thanks for posting anyway.
