General discussion / Re: The OFFICIAL Liverpool FC thread

I’m always afraid to post in here as I feel like I’m a scud by times. Last night was a strange one. Struggled the first half with our shape due to the amount of changes. Getting to HT goalless was a bonus with the chances they had.

Second half was a complete stroll, even before the goal. And what a goal!  As sweet a strike as you’ll ever see. The way he shaped his body, controlled the ball and directed it. Pure class.

Second wasn’t bad either and a decent ball from young Morton,  who has the makings of a good player. He is watery as f**k looking but when he was walking off the field he was with Williams(who also put in a great shift) and Morton is a few inches bigger than him. When he grows into his body he’ll be very good as he has the skills and the brains. Learn off Thiago and Fab,  he has a bright future.

Clean sheet, no injuries, playing decent, and players coming back. All good really

ABC carrying on the proud legacy left by Craigavon Borough Council…

https://www.armaghi.com/news/lurgan-news/lurgan-hurling-club-sean-traceys-member-to-take-legal-action-against-council-over-use-of-gaa-pitch/150092

The sad thing is, after all the work Sean Traceys put in to get this area suitable for GAA, it's actually Lurgan Celtic who are forcing the change.  Lurgan is not short of community football pitches.

Antrim Borough Council being just as inclusive….

GAA Discussion / Re: 50 years of the all Ireland club championships
« on: November 18, 2021, 04:03:56 PM »
I’m one of the luckiest footballers in Ireland. I grew up with a bunch of lads who were serial winners from we were cubs and we brought that through to adult level. I remember a Clan na Gael man chiding me saying I was the worst player to ever win an All Ireland….I disagreed with him…I told him I was the worst player to ever win 3!

It is 50 years since the first one and next year is 25 years since our first one but the competition is only getting better. I think our win coincided with the new world we were living in with people having more money from an improving economy and freedom following on from the ceasefire. The GAA became ‘sexy’ and we as a team were part of the new media focus on the games. Coupled with that was the internet which brought things to a whole new level of exposure.

Our story is well written, our heroes are well known, but to this day I still get goosebumps when i remember back to the ‘good old days’….I love meeting old foes who are now good friends. We all have the same aching limbs and fading memories,  though some of the tales are getting bigger as the years pass!

Bad day at the office. From the very start West Ham were more focused on their gameplan whereas we were all over the place. Perhaps thought that it was going to be a lot easier than it was and couldn’t get out of the complacency funk. No medals given out in November so not gonna panic. First game lost in 25 so it’s not like it’s a travesty. Reset and see ye in 2 weeks, get some of the injured players fitter/back

4 touches in citys box...was this worse than the Liverpool game?

I don’t know but they had more shots on target on their own goal than on City’s. That tells its own story

Glen will give Ulster a fair rattle this year, though they’re on the same side as Kilcoo so that won’t be easy navigated. An Ulster final between Glen and Clann Eireann will be a ding dong battle. 2 up and coming under age set ups finally making the break through. A new name on the Seamus McFerran cup this year methinks….

We won’t see a full League cup team but you will see changes for the last 2 games. Kelleher, Williams, Gomez, Konate, Tsimikas/Robbo, Milner, Ox, Jones, Origi, Jota, Minamino ….that’s still a strong ‘2nd’ team with the likes of Nat Phillips, Morton, Kaide Gordon, Bradley as subs. Keep the squad happy and sharp

You think that team (or similar) will start or just a smattering of them?

I’d say 7-8 of that team is likely to start. Definitely will see Kelleher, Konate, Gomez, Williams, one of the LBs, Jones, Origi and Minamino in my opinion.

Satisfactory win. Hope the injuries are minor enough but with the international break coming up it may not be too bad. Defensively better than we have been and a clean sheet against these shithouses is always welcome. Fab is so integral to how we play and when he doesn’t it shows. Winning the group eases pressure for the build up to a busy Christmas period.

Up front Salah gets all the plaudits but the thing is the other 3 don’t half put in a shift no matter which of them plays. Mane had some first half, Jota never stops. Bobby will be a miss if he is out for a period hence why the international break may work in our favour. Not even a 3rd of the way through the season and between the 4 of them they have scores 34 goals in all competitions. Replicate that over the season and there’s gonna be a fun 6-8 months.

WH at the weekend will be tough but a win to sign off would be a lovely booster.

This whole clamour for Xavi is mad too. Given the state they are in, you would imagine someone with a bit of sense would advise them to get a top quality manager who has proven credentials.  Xavi has done or shown nothing to suggest he will do any better than the previous failures.

Like who?

That’s it, they have become a bit of a basket club these days and I’m not sure anyone will be breaking the door down to manage them. It is likely it will be a former great who feels loyalty to them, a Xavi or the likes. Start a rebuild process which wa a always gonna have to happen post Messi

I know 1 who has lived in the same house for the last 20 years in a pretty much 100% nationalist area, from Dublin originally and would have had republican great-grandparents from way back when. I wouldn’t think of this person any differently to someone who I would have sat drinking whiskey until 4am on New Year’s Eve on at least 2 occasions. Would have been a good friend but we moved on with our lives.

It needs to change as an organisation and will but not yet. Too many vested interests to keep it as it is. Cross border policing will increase over the next decade and that will see a sea-change in the mindset and outlook. Change is a coming folks

Hard to talk about Kin when you watch the latest episode of Succession. It was class!!

Great show so well written and acted it’s hotting up nicely!

Was deadly tonight. The characters are so dislike-able but compelling. Was of the best shows I’ve ever seen

Kin was poor but the ending kinda leaves some scope for improvement. Definitely not Love/Hate. Reminds me stylistically of the Dublin Murders series,  which was also dung.
