Very sorry to hear this. I only ever saw the Dubliners once, 20 years ago at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury.

Was it Barney who said when introduced to Ted Kennedy "sorry about the brothers".

May have said it before, but if you like crime fiction set in wartime, try 'Berlin Noir' a trilogy set around Nazi Germany by Philip Kerr - a Sam Spade type ex-cop working around the touchy, feely attentions of the Gestapo.  Enjoy!

Good call Billy, just finished March Violets & looking forward to the next two in the trilogy. Superb!

Horrible news.

Aston Villa captain Stilian Petrov has been diagnosed with acute leukaemia, the club have said.
The condition was diagnosed following tests after the Bulgaria international, 32, developed a fever following last Saturday's defeat to Arsenal.
The club said: "We expect to learn more about Stilian's situation in due course and we have moved quickly to support him and his family.
"During this time we ask that Stilian's privacy is placed ahead of all inquiries and trust that we will share information as we receive it.
"Stilian is cherished by many and he will get from Villa every ounce of love and support that we have to help bring this to a positive conclusion."

Very good. I wonder what Arguero's 'stupid injury' was and was Ballotelli in the vicinity?

I see Stephen Ireland wants back it!

"Obviously I've matured as a person since then. Things are much more settled and I'm at a club where I am playing. Now the kids are putting pressure on me to play for Ireland... it all could have been dealt with in a better way at the time. But even if it had been I'd still have needed that big gap at some stage anyway...
"But I really don't know the answer. It came across as if it was a burden to me to play for my country – but that's not the case."

Would you want him back?

Yes, doctor prescribed Nizoral shampoo. Worked a treat. This was about 20 years ago though.

Almost did the same myself with John Crace's digested read in yesterday's Guardian. Also read Headhunters recently, was Ok.

Just finished The Phantom, the latest Harry Hole thriller by Jo Nesbo. Very good with a shock twist at the end.

I see Martin Scorsese is set to direct a film version of The Snowman!

I would like to see Aaron Cunningham get a run out against Donegal, in a half forward line along with Mackin and Anto Duffy. I'd be curious to see if this would work in advance of the championship game with Tyrone. I feel this option might curb the influence of Sean Cavanagh and Peter Harte. They are all strong, can compete on kick outs, work hard and can carry ball and link up well with defence.
