The Hitcher with Rutger Hauer.  Tense. Always look at your chips before you eat.

Just finished watching Mr Deeds goes to Town.  When did incidental music start being used in films?  Long periods of just silence. Is the music there to distract you from the crap acting?

whats the best horror film IYO

For me

Wicker Man
American Werewolf in London
Carrie

As a kid, Salem's Lot scared the wits out of me............ especially the Window scene. Not sure how a reviewing of it would pan out.
For the life of me I cannot find these recent Japanese "chillers" scary.

Also worth a look

Dog Soldiers
The Others
Watched Salems lot on my own when I was probably 11/12 years old, definitely not a good idea, will never ever forget the window scene

Denn Forever

Happy Gilmore (not the TD) on Sky 1 at the minute.

Event Horizon scared the shite outta me one night (long time ago) I watched it very hung over.  Still gives me the willies, it's having a run on Sky Movies at present.

Seriously? I thought it was stupid, when I saw it in the cinema.

Saw Zombieland tonight. Excellent film, very funny. Woody was fantastic and there was a brilliant cameo.

Would have to agree on the Event horizon one, scared the dung out of me-but in a class way. What lies beneath was also quite scary.

Saw a couple of more films over the weekend.

Scott Pilgrim v The World - Not often I'd do this, but I turned it off half way. It was the biggest pile of nonsense I've had the misfortunate to watch in a long time. Disappointing, as I've heard nothing but good stuff about this and was really looking forward to it. I guess I've taken that step into the 'next generation' and no longer find films targeted at the youth market all that appealing anymore.

Black Dynamite - Ended up watching this after Scott Pilgrim. A very funny film. It's a spoof of blaxploitation from the 70s. I'd highly recommend it to anyone, who isn't easily offended.

Went to see Yogi Bear at the weekend. The wee lad loved it.

I know I'm running late, but I saw True Grit last night. Thought it blew Wayne's version out of the water, and as always Bridges was fantastic.

Agnes Dipesto

For any DiCaprio fans, The Basketball Diaries is on TCM tonight at 10.55pm. Very good film and he is excellent in it.

I like that list Canalman, especially Wicker Man (the one with Edward Woodward). Another one I thought was good too was Race with the Devil with Peter Fonda, think it was made in the 70's.

Salem's Lot was brilliant and I remember being freaked out by that scene of the young boy at the window. Another film I found totally disturbing was The Exorcist. I watched it once and vowed never again.

Wicker Man and Race with the Devil 2 great shows. Something scary about everyone in the village being after you. Bit like Deliverance which is unsettling also.

1970s films seemed scarier for some reason also.

Unfortunately The Exorcist never had any effect on me as I saw Repossesed with Leslie Nielsen first so every scene had the piss taken out of it first.

I can't stand DiCaprio, sorry.

DiCaprio may have done some daft blockbusters but i have found him to be a very good actor. IMO

I like DiCaprio, but only saw this film about 2 years ago.  Seriously over-rated.
