Spectre 6/10
The Last Witch Hunter 5/10

Still can't get a good stream on Genesis for Revenant...

The only copy out other than anything that was recorded in the cinema is a 480p screener. There's no HD option out there yet. Best option is to go to cinema, it really deserves it.

Might be able to get to see it this week - last time I went to Cinema I chose Creed over Revenant! Couldn't turn Stallone down
I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong and morally straight

Anyone seen Spotlight yet? Was it released in the US in 2015?

I watched it on Screener just before Christmas. It's alright I would give it a 6/10. Quite boring to be fair there isn't a whole lot going on apart from the fact the Church are as corrupt as a Tyrone GAA dressing room!!
If you are looking for a cinematic excellence when it comes to depicting child abuse by catholic clerics, then one needs to look no further than Doubt with Meryl Streep and  Philip Hofmann as the deviant priest,
but possibly there are  some people  would also have found that film boring as it was slow paced, understated  and intense.
Spotlight is a film that is just not made these days. How does one  make a film about a once in a century newspaper investigation into widespread child abuse in Boston  by catholic priests and the cover up  going up to highest authorities, both clerical and political, and make it suitable for popcorn and soda so that their boredom levels are not too burdensome?
The victory is that this film was made.
That the story probably needs 10 to 20  one hour episodes to tell the whole story is just incidental.

I'm, ah, well versed in how to acquire items such as these... Most torrent sites will tell you the resolution in either the filename or, if not, the details if you can be bothered to chase it.

This time of year is great for watching new movies at home as screeners for the award contenders ALWAYS leak a few months before hand. I've yet to see one in 1080p though.

The Revenant was amazing for the first hour or so and then started to grind a bit, still overall a good show. Spectre was poor though. I have lost interest in the Bond franchise. Goldeneye was great and then the rest of the Brosnan movies were rot. Casino Royale was so overated it was unbelievable a real yawn, quantum of solace was as poor as any Bond film you will see. Skyfall was good even though the whole torch in the moors bit was daft but Spectre was definitely a real step back again. FFS they even manage to get the great Monica Bellucci and instead of having her as  a sexy bond villain no2 type they decide to go for the grieving wife and she is in it for only 2 minutes. Its got to the point were the annoying Tom Cruises' mission impossible films are actually way better.

Watched spotlight last night and was v impressed, whilst it is about clerical abuse the main purpose is the investigatory side of the story, I thought it was subtle in crediting the audience with already having an understanding of what abuse entails , and showed another perspective ..
I found myself wondering that once this story had been investigated and published what was the aftermath for the journalists.. When they had time to reflect on everything they had undercovered , thought mark ruffualo was superb...
I'm trying to decide on a really meaningful message..

Watched the Big Short. Very very interesting film. I have to say we r fcuked big time.

Great movie.

Reckon I was the only person in the world going "That guy with the beard looks awfully familiar to me...I know I've seen him in something...."

Watched it , v good but a lot of dialogue/ jargon (think I need to watch it again), surprised Steve carrel didn't get a Oscar nod..
I'm trying to decide on a really meaningful message..

Dead Pool was a good watch. Usually I am not one for these crap comic book superhero type films but this was something different altogether. If you like Ryan Reynolds' comedy you'll love it.

Main Street

I found one  version of the (made for tv) 1958 German film It Happened in Broad Daylight being seeded on KAT (with eng subs).
The author who wrote the screen play for the 1958 film, angrily rejected the changes in plot that were imposed.
In response he wrote a book called The Pledge where he outlined his version of the screenplay, his story.
The Pledge 2001 dir Sean Penn was based on this book.

Both films were top heavy with the best actors of their day and very well made.
You might remember the increasingly obsessed Jack Nicholson's last hope to trap the serial killer was foiled by happenstance and he ended up truly deranged, not knowing he was right along.
The german film is different, the original 1958 B&W film is an out and out gripping, classic thriller and imo an improved story..
