GAA Discussion / Re: Dublin v Tyrone
January 25, 2007, 01:04:15 AM
QuoteTyrone will be going into the game without Conor Gormley, Brian Dooher, Brian McGuigan and Stephen O' Neill (and whats the situation with Jordan?). Thats the spine of the team and All-Stars the lot of them. As such Id say the priority for Tyrone is to go and put it up to the Dubs and see how the young lads on the panel cope with the Croke Park experience

I sure Dublin will be expeimenting too,  as well as dealing with their own unavailability/injury issues.

QuoteHowever I have a problem with Kerry men having a go at Down men.  Pete Mc Grath won 2 all irelands in a committed management career with down and never went back looking his worth off the weaker counties in Ireland

..being patronized by a Tyroneman...things cant get much worse !

Lets face it, Down only win AI when Kerry are at their weakest...christ almighty, what age were Spillane and Jacko in `91 ?
They must have been about 45 !

Micko is a legend and can only do good for Wickliow football.
Its a pity the petty begrudgers have to have a go everytime there is an article about him.
Their envy is transparent.

QuoteI read it and agree 100%.

Snake oil salesman.

Micko is a legend. Then again, you wouldnt be expected to understand. You Down lads
cant seem to get your act together in that department.

QuoteUsual ass kissing shit from the indo. Micko should have quit when cork gobbed them in 87. He had his day.

QuoteUnless they spend the winter lifting weights i'd predict a run in the powder puff Leinster championship and then a spanking when they meet anyone half decent. Good talent there but lightweight

QuoteYou and i both know that the Tyrone team you beat was not at full strength (not laois fault i know), and as for mayo well we know how good they are. Laois are probably 8-10 points a game behind any serious all-ireland contender.

Another mouthy Tyrone fan. Brilliant. I was almost getting bored with the recent lack of bombast from the red hands.

And while we are at it, Armagh have been whinging incessantly in recent years about how the provincial winners are disadvantaged.

The GAA then think about changing the rules to rectify this and, lo and belod, onto the board come the Armagh conspiracy theorists to say its a a dastardly plot by Frank Murphy to favor Cork !!

Do ye not see the irony at all ?

#3083
QuoteSurely Kerry would be welcoming an extra game, 4 proper games in one championship season to regain / retain sam would be a novelty at least.

I suppose you are right. Hammering weaker teams like Armagh by 8 points is pointless really. Sure, even Waterford gave us a better game.

QuoteCould someone think of scheme where provincial winners could get back in, but in a format where they had to have won 4 games to reach the semis

gee, I wonder who that rule would be aimed at ?

Here are some more rules to be allowed back in as provincial winners. Not aimed at any county in particular, you understand

"No full forwards  over 5' 8'' allowed"
" No Midfielders with 4 or more Senior AI football medals allowed"
"Must have same manager as last year"

and, most important of all
" Must say "wee" a lot, no "yerras" allowed"

QuoteIt was commented on here at the time, certainly by Hardy if my memory serves me well, that the ref effectively killed the Francie v Donaghey contest with his use of the yellow early on and the immortal line "once more and you're off!" It was after this that Donaghey did the damage.

If applying the rules and leveling the playing field "Killed the contest" then perhaps Armagh had no business showing up. To paraphrase Kieran McGeeney "if it's pulling and dragging they want then we'll pull and drag !"

Quotefolks, i am looking for a link to a list of every ulster champ county game since 1980,

Try the Guantanamo website and look under "Torture methods - video archive". I'm sure they'll have all the games there.

GAA Discussion / Re: national game ?

My opinions

1) The Aussies have improved exponentially over the last few years. This shouldnt be surprising. They are professional atheletes and will pick things
up very quickly once they apply themselves.
2) I think you will find that your skill levels decrease in direct proportion to how likely you think your head is about to be seperated
from your shoulders.

GAA Discussion / against it
November 13, 2006, 07:12:33 PM

ffs, you mean I will have to search for anti-Kerry threads to take umbrage at !

I am against this. Sure, they are a pain in the arse sometimes but they keep things ticking over.

GAA Discussion / national game ?

QuoteNow that things have died down a bit anybody else feel that the Aussies underlined how ordinary we are at our national game

Its not our national game.
