So, it all comes down to this. There are numerous permutations as to what will relegate or promote various teams in Division 2.. Westmeath know that they must win this game to have any chance of avoiding relegation. Even at that, they need other results to go their way...Roscommon now find themselves in the position where even if they win this game, they could still miss out on promotion..With The Ros U-21's having a Connacht Final next Saturday evening, what involvement, if any, will we see in Mullingar from Diarmuid Murtagh, Enda Smith and Ultan Harney?. These lads will be a big loss to Ros if they don't play. This has the makings of a very tricky game for Roscommon.

Draw will do us if Kildare and Laois both lose.

Jaysus you're not having a good day today. This is incorrect as well - there is no permutation where Roscommon could miss out on promotion with nine points. They actually could go up with eight, though they'd need Laois to beat Down, Galway to fail to win against Kildare and for there to be a winner of the Meath vs Cavan game in order for that to happen.

Roscommon will not be promoted if Down and Cavan win and Roscommon do not score two clear points more that Cavan beat Meath by. We drew with Cavan and so the tie-breaker would be points difference.

Jaysus you're not having a good day today.. if you're going to be smarmy when you correct someone at least be right.

In addition, if Down and Laois draw and Roscommon beat Westmeath, and there's a winner in the Meath v Cavan game, 3 teams will be on 9 points (with Down and Meath having much better scoring average).

Jinxy

If you were any use you'd be playing.

Lone Shark, i can draw pictures of the permutations if you still don't understand.

My apologies. You're right, I am struggling today.

The Galway lads couldn't understand having Senan running all over the field yesterday. It must delight defenses when they see the opposition's big man back behind his own HB line. By the end of the match he was basically playing as a midfielder. Will we ever let him just play the position he was born to play, full-forward?

Serious work-rate from Kilbride and he looks fitter than ever and is playing some very good ball this year. But those questions about whether we're utilizing him correctly persist.

Mike Sheehy

What GAA clubs are in Athlone ? I assume it is more football given the Roscommon connection.

Syferus, do you have any idea ?

Athlone GAA and Garrycastle in the town, both Westmeath clubs. Athlone blew up a few decades ago and split, Dolans ending up in Kiltoom with St. Brigids and Garrycastle. Garrycastle itself was only founded in 1981. St. Brigids would be mostly rural but its reach creeps towards the town proper. It's densely populated rural areas though. Clann na Gael (Roscommon) have a nice chunk around Monksland, a bit of a suburb of Athlone.

Wouldn't have much knowledge of the boundaries of the nearest Westmeath clubs the other side of the Shannon.

If I understand correctly Athlone is considered Westmeath even if half of it is in Roscommon. What is stopping them extending the boundary and just taking over the whole shop ?
